A General Description of Motor Yacht DESTRIERO

This motor yacht DESTRIERO is a 68 m 224 (ft) significant aluminium boat which was built by Fincantieri Yachts - Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani and devised by Cmn and Donald L Blount & Assoc and Pininfarina.

This yacht was built as a jet powered yacht which still holds the transatlantic speed record. When built she had three GE LM1600 gas turbines fitted giving her a maximum speed of 110 km/h (59.4 Knots, 68.4 MPH). Yacht DESTRIERO then competed for the Blue Riband award in 1992, creating a still to be bettered speed record of 53.1 knots average from New York to England without refueling. Unfortunately, she as considered a ‘private yacht’ as opposed to a ‘commercial passenger vessel’ and denied the award. The ship was "laid up" in for the last 10 years, but was removed in February 2009[3], reportedly for After spending 10 years at the HMNB Devonport dockyard, Plymouth, England, motor yacht DESTRIERO was moved to the German Lürssen ship yard in 2009.

Cmn was the naval architect involved in the professional vessel design work for DESTRIERO. Cmn and Donald L Blount & Assoc and Pininfarina is also associated with the yacht wider design collaboration for this boat. In 1991 she was formally launched to celebration in Muggiano and following sea trials and final completion was afterwards passed on to the owner who commissioned her. Fincantieri Yachts - Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani completed their new build motor yacht in Italy. The core hull was built out of aluminium. The motor yacht superstructure component is made mostly using aluminium. With a beam of 12.91 m / 42.4 feet DESTRIERO has open room. She had refit improvement and changes completed by 2000.
