Your Guide to Yacht Charter in Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea holds so many wonderful secrets and is one of the most diverse and untouched charter destinations on earth. While chartering a luxury yacht in Papua New Guinea you can explore the beautiful tropical islands with friendly locals, white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, amazing coral reefs, world class surf breaks, abundant fishing, charming villages, captivating cultures, idyllic palms and unforgettable sunsets that make this region a charterers delight and an unspoilt, isolated paradise. What better way to enjoy the Papua New Guinea experience than on a live-aboard yacht charter.

Papua New Guinea and the islands of the Bismarck Archipelago are untouched by mass tourism. Onboard a luxury motor yacht charter guests can enjoy PNG’s many distinct tribal cultures, private viewings of festivals, scuba diving/snorkeling world-class sites, jet skiing, reef fishing, bush walking, kayaking, beachcombing, or exploring picturesque village settings. Guests are pampered with genuine warm and friendly Melanesian hospitality. You will feel like you are the first to experience it, the first person to visit the island village, surf that wave or snorkel on that reef. Spectacular Coasts and Magical islands. Scattered like pearls throughout the Bismarck and North Solomon sea, these islands are the stuff of dreams!

Thatched huts sheltered by swaying palms, dazzling coral beaches, atolls with towering, green-draped mountains – these are the idyllic homes of people whose lives continue to be interwoven with ritual and ceremony that embraces and nurtures every aspect of life from birth to death. On a luxury motor yacht you can spend 7-10 days sailing through this paradise between Madang and Alotau, with abundant time for numerous shore excursions to allow you to explore spectacular landscapes and interact with these unique cultures.

The flexibility of our schedule and routes allow us to journey wide and far to the provinces of Manus, New Ireland, East New Britain, Bougainville, West New Britain, Morobe, Milne Bay and, of course, Madang. You can visit beautiful island groups like Siassi, Witu Group, D’Entracastreaux Group, Marshall Bennetts, Trobriand Islands and many more. Here you will witness the real South Pacific – the South Pacific of Michener, Stevenson and Matisse in vivid, living breathing colour. The Sepik, pronounced "sea-pick", is one of the world's great river systems and at 1126 km, the longest river system in PNG. It has an enormous catchment area and landforms that include swamplands, tropical rainforests and mountains. Biologically, the river system is possibly the largest uncontaminated freshwater wetland system in the Asia-Pacific region, with a drainage basin that covers some 80,000 square kilometres.

Expect to visit some extraordinary villages along the river, including Perembei & Kanganaman, famous for their maginficent Haus Tambarans (Spirit Houses), fine carvings and warm, friendly people. Further along your voyage, in the village of Wombun, in the Chambri Lakes, you may be among the lucky few to witness a drama played out by local youths or witness traditional artisans making pottery using method almost as old as time itself in the village of Aibom. Further along the mighty river at Kamindimbit local people will give you a unique insight into village life and perhaps a traditional “sing sing”.

A little further upstream we will visit Tambanum Village, the largest village in the middle Sepik, Taumbanum features superb houses and people who are amongst the most skillful and prolific carvers along the river. From Kambarindo a rapid speed boat ride up the Nagam River to Mundox Village will provide you the opportunity to witness and participate in many as pects of village life.  Further along the lower Sepik we pass villages including Moim, the remarkable Kambaramba, built on stilts to adapt to the ebb and flow of the river in the backwater, Angoram a commercial trading town and further down river, Bien and an exciting excursion by speed boat to the Murik Lakes and village of Mendam.

The last villages along the Sepik are Kopar and Wotam. If conditions permit, a visit will be made to Manam or Boisa Island and Buson Village on Kar Kar. Finally, cruise through the beautiful Madang Marine Park to berth at the Madang Resort. The Mystical Highlands Majestic, mysterious and shrouded in the mists of time, the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Highlands are a world apart. Isolated by rugged terrain for thousands of years, the people of the Highlands have developed their own distinctive traditions and customs, typified by their striking and often colourful costumes and body adornments.

To showcase the best of Highlands culture, regional festivals and shows featuring song, dance and spectacular costumes are regularly scheduled and not to be missed. Visitors will be fascinated by the bright ochre colours and the two metre high head-dresses swathed in plumes of the Bird of Paradise worn by tribal elders. Dancing is proud and fierce at traditional sing-sings, with drums beating long into the night. It is possible to arrange visits, prior to boarding or following your charter, to Goroka or Mt Hagen in the Bismarck Highlands, or a visit closer to Madang in the Finnisterre or Adelbert Range.

Wherever you choose to explore, your Highlands experience is certain to command a unique place among your memories.
