Tavake (Tongan for "Tropicbird/Bosun Bird") was custom designed for this enterprise by Laurent Giles Ltd. of Lymington, England for owner, builder and skipper Peter Kinsey. The welded steel hull redefines current concepts of strength and safety at sea for sailing craft.
Tavake is a heavy displacement sailing ship. Total sail area is 1,200 square feet spread on a mast 62 feet off the deck. On windless days an 80 h.p. Isuzu diesel engine pushes us along at seven knots (13.5 kph).

Yacht Charter Accommodation

Tavake has a total of nine berths. There are two large private cabins with double berths and four single berths spread throughtout the yacht. There is one head with a walk-in shower on board and an additional deck shower on the upper sides.

Charter Amenities and Extras

Tavake's nine berth accommodation is split into three sleeping cabins, a large main salon, galley, and one head with walk-in shower, as well as a freshwater shower on deck. There is a steering station with 360 degree visibility in the wheelhouse as well as one in the cockpit. The many portholes and hatch openings make Tavake light and cool below, even on a hot, humid day. In the main salon there is a CD/cassette stereo system. Navigation and communication gear consists of three GPS's, three sextants, H.O. 229 tables, a depth sounder, two VHF radios, a Single Side Band radio and a VHF radio telephone. A three burner propane cooking range is the heart of the modern, open galley. Tavake has a large icebox for storing ice and keeping drinks cool , plus a refrigeration unit for meats and perishables. As a registered Fijian vessel and licensed charter boat, Tavake is inspected regularly by the Fiji Marine Safety Board. For safety she is equipped with extensive first aid supplies (the skipper is a certified paramedic), inflatable life raft, 14' customized aluminum survival/exploration dinghy, a Jordan series survival drogue, and a 406 MHz Satellite EPIRB. There are four high volume hydraulic and electric emergency bilge pumps and one manual bilge pump. There are both 12 volt and 110 volt electrical systems and on-demand pressure hot and cold water. A 60 US gallon per hour water maker ensures that you will never run short of fresh water aboard Tavake.
