The 40th edition of the Oyster Regatta offered onlookers intense action and close racing, with new sailing yachts keeping apace with familiar favourites in 4 days of intense racing in Palma de Mallorca.

“….it never ceases to amaze me how both the first timers at an Oyster regatta (and for many of these it’s also their first time on a start line) and the experienced owners racing fully crewed up with experts on board – find a way of racing against each other in a true Corinthian style – its a great confirmation that being part of the Oyster family and enjoying the company of like minded individuals is what’s important,” commented David Tydeman, Oyster CEO as he thanked event organisers at Real Club Nautico de Palma as well as the sponsors and the fleet.

Prize-giving took place at the Palacio de Congressos in Palma de Mallorca in front of almost 300 owners and crew, who spent the evening chatting and dancing the night away in celebration of successful and close racing on the anniversary of the 40th Oyster Regatta.

The Pantaenius prizes were given out first for best starts, with 4 yachts in Class 1 starting 5 seconds behind the gun. Oyster 825 MAEGAN from Class 1 stood out from other potential prize-winners for beginning less than one second behind the gun.

Corrections on separated time determined the final results, with less than a minute separating the top two racers of Class 1 and less than 10 seconds determining the winner in Class 3.

On the final day, Class 1 winner FIREBIRD beat newcomers BACCHUS by less than a minute, while in Class 2 WIKIWIKI voluntarily took a 20% place penalty for a Port & Starboard incident on the first leg, leaving TIGER to take the overall win ahead of LADY MARIPOSA. The sailing in Class 3 was no less intense and OSTRA scraped ahead of PIED PIPER to secure a Class 3 victory.

Despite the penalty, WIKIWIKI secured overall win for Class 2 and PIED PIPER secured Class 3 with consistent sailing throughout the races, while FIREBIRD was declared winner over BACCHUS after both yachts finished with the same tally from their best three races.
