After last year’s closing figure of -27% compared to the preceding year’s figures, provisional figures for the Italian nautical industry’s global turnover for this year indicate that the gap is lessening, stabilizing around -4 and -8%, a turnover between 2.4 and 2.3 billion euro, as reported by UCINA, Confindustria Nautica.

Optimistic signs come from the relative estimate of the nautical contribution to the GNP, which in 2014 should once again exceed 2 billion euro, a growth of 7%.

This result, based on the IMF’s estimated growth of Italy’s GNP, should be interpreted bearing in mind that since leisure sailing by its very nature has an extremely flexible demand in relation to income, the industry’s contribution to the GNP amplifies, both positively and negatively the trend of the GNP itself.

During the presentation final balance figures relative to the Italian nautical market trend in 2012 were examined. This year saw a reduction of 5.5% in the workforce sector compared  to the preceding year reducing the numbers to 19,000. However there’s good news concerning the superyacht segment where according to the Order Book published by Show Boats International, the prestigious international magazine, Italy is still the undisputed leader, with 272 orders namely 39% of the total.
