Recent years have seen the steady increase in demand for the open style luxury sports motor yacht. Yacht owners and yacht charterers alike enjoy the simple style of a sport yacht as well as their performance oriented design. The yachts can be used to effortlessly cruise between coastal areas as well as making an exhilarating dash between a port and fashionable beach. Here is a list of the fastest yachts available.

PURE ONE

In the South of France on the French Riviera (cote d Azure) for instance the fast type of motor yacht can be idea because often the top spots are situated relatively close together. This means on a yacht charter a speedy motor yacht can zip between Cannes for lunch and St Tropez for dinner, Monaco and Cap Ferrat in the time between breakfast and lunch. Essentially, it potentially means a superyacht charter group can see a number of different locations in one day. Although these yachts may be more limited in longer range crusing, where the fuel efficiency and larger interior space of the explorer and displacement superyachts come into its own, open style performance yachts are certainly in their element in areas where their is a high concentration of places to enjoy.

The other fantastic thing about a performance superyacht is that although smaller in overall volume the best designs do provide clever use of the space they have. For instance, even if there is only one outside deck on the yacht there with often be a fantastic aft deck area that supports sunbathing, alfresco dining and easy access to the water with a large swimming platform and water toy area. There may well also be a foreward deck viewing area with sunbeds, seating and a table so you can watch the horizon peel back as you almost ‘fly’ across the ocean towards your next destination. Some fine examples include the Baia MIRAGE or the Pershing 90.

Some larger sports yachts also have a second deck level where a flybridge will facilitate an outside helm, jaccuzi pool, and more dining and sunbathing. Similarly inside the yacht will make the most of the space and tend to have large windows around and open plan deck salon with formal dining, lounging and the bridge. Two excellent examples of large performance motor yachts are ZEUS, PURE ONE and the PJ 150 BLUE ICE.

Typically the Western Mediterranean offers ideal compact cruising areas and as such this is where by far the most sport motor yachts are found.  The sport yacht models include Palmer Johnson, Mangusta, Leopard, Pershing, Baia, and also Ferretti, Azimut, Sunseeker and Warren. As mentioned the French Riviera is a well know charter hotspot. This area includes St Tropez, Pampelonne, Cannes, Isle de Lerins, Monte Carlo, Ville France, Nice, Cap Ferrat and Antibes.  Hoverer, increasingly other areas are also becoming more popular like the Italian Riviera (Cinque Terre, Portofino, Portovenere, Genoa) Sardinia (Porto Cervo, Costa Esmerelda, Cala di Volpe, & Olbia), Corsica (Bonifaccio, Porto Vecchio), Naples, Capri as well as Croatia in the East Mediterranean.

To get the best out of your luxury yacht charter it is important to consider the area you wish to cruise and your ideal itinerary. Sports yachts can be ideal for moving about the coastline however displacement or sailing yachts are perhaps better suited to longer distances due to their larger number of service crew and superior space and fuel efficiency. Talk to a professional yacht charter broker about the options and what is likely to be most suitable for your group and preferences.
