Hull number 388 being turned

The new 49m Spirit of Tradition Ketch’s hull was turned successfully at the  Royal_Huisman shipyard.  The 49m Ketch with a hull number 388 stood upright for the first time and will carry on without a name until her official launch and christening ceremony.

Spirit of Tradition yard number 388 was built with modern aspirations and designed with classic beauty. The ketch rigged hull number 388 extends to 55m with her grand bowsprit, combining classic traditional lines, including a plumb bow and an elegant counter stern, which enhance performance and fast passage. The 49m hull design takes inspiration from the early working sailing designs like the Pilot Cutter and the Brixham Trawler, able to reach around 15 knots.

The project manager involved in the build is Jens Cornelsen who has been working very closely with naval architects Dykstra & Partners along with the owner of hull 388. Dykstra & Partners have drawn on their knowledge and expertise in performance orientated classic yachts to the project, pairing classic and modern elements into the yacht. They have combined sympathetic period features such as a gentle sheer, open deck space, neatly proportioned deckhouses and skylights are held above the waterline with a modern, easily driven hull shape below.

The new 49m Spirit of Tradition Ketch’s hull number 388 features a canoe under body which sports a fully-ballasted lifting keel, deep carbon spade rudder and low wetted-surface areas. The Superyacht will feature an Alustar hull, a tall carbon Rondal spars and comprehensive sail plan, providing a powerful, lightweight yacht with sea keeping ability and performance.

The stylish 49m Spirit of Tradition Ketch will also provide comfort and luxury with interior design by Rhoades Young Design.  The interior of Yard No. 388, will draw from classic references translated with modern craftsmanship.

With the 49m 388’s hull now turned, it won’t be long until the yacht begins to take shape. We will keep you updated on further details including the name of this 49m post-modern sailing ketch.
