Many superyacht owners and the world’s leading yacht designers and builders have already submitted entries for this year’s Awards, which will be presented during a gala evening at the Monaco Opera House.

Following the close of entries on February 15, Boat International Media’s senior editors will meet to screen the nominees, trimming the list to a smaller number of outstanding finalists. These finalist designs will be put forward for a second round of judging by a wholly independent panel of yacht owners, senior yacht crew and acclaimed naval architects, designers and stylists from within as well as outside the marine industry to decide the winners of the golden Neptune trophies. Finalists will be announced on March 5, 2013.

Any person may nominate a yacht, with the limitation that this person must be able to provide the requested information to support their nomination. To qualify, all yachts must be of over 30 meters in length and have been completed and delivered to their owners between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.

The full list of categories and entry requirements can be found on the ShowBoats Design Awards website.

An international audience of yacht owners and industry professionals will come together to witness the presentation of the 2013 Awards at the Monaco Opera House on June 21. Following the prize giving ceremony, guests are invited to the Yacht Club de Monaco for an evening of fine food, music and entertainment.

This year’s Awards evening once again takes place during The Rendezvous in Monaco, a four-day event for superyacht owners, and we anticipate that many of the finalist yachts will be participating in the full program of yachting activities and glamorous social occasions.

A very successful 5th edition of La Belle Classe Superyachts Business Symposium

January 28, 2013

Organized by the prestigious Yacht Club de Monaco in order to unite the yachting industry as well as support members in this sector, the 5th edition of economic symposium, ‘La Belle Classe Superyachts‘, was a great success.

Over 45 professionals from across the Luxury Yachting supply chain (boatyards, brokers, designers, captains, bankers, maritime experts, lawyers, port directors and boat show organisers) attended the dinner-debate to discuss the economic situation in the yachting world.

An initiative organised in collaboration with Only Yacht, and welcomed by all those involved in what is a very competitive sector and who rarely have an opportunity to get together and discuss issues freely.

This fifth edition also attracted interest from the Monegasque authorities, including new Minister of Finance and the Economy, Jean Castellini, and Armelle Roudaut-Lafon, Director of Maritime Affairs (Monaco).

Hein Velema, Fraser Yachts CEO representing LYBRA (Large Yacht Brokers Association), a new Monegasque body grouping the five principal brokers in the Principality, and Olivier Blanchet of BNP Paribas each gave a short speech. They reported on the current situation and gave their macro-economic views after which all the key players reviewed the past year and gave their predictions for the future.

- Crisis or no crisis?
All agreed the yachting industry is still hampered by problems linked to the financial and economic crisis. Regarding transactions, Olivier Blanchet observed that between 2011 and 2012, there was “an average drop of 30% in prices for second-hand yachts, with a rise in the number of second-hand boats for sale, particularly in the 24-35m market. Demand for funds to finance yachts remains steady, although more than two-third of acquisitions are still made without a request for funding”.

The crisis has however revealed how surprisingly healthy the mega-yacht (+80m) sector is: “Newbuildings just got bigger and bigger in 2011 and 2012. Some 25 to 30 boats of 100m are already sailing! A few projects for 160-plus metres are in the process of being built.”

One reason why yachting is affected to a lesser extent by the crisis is the support of a wealthy international clientele. Worldwide, there are estimated to be around 82,000 ‘ultra-high net worth individuals’ (whose fortune exceeds 50 million euro), of which 1,226 are billionaires, with 480 billionaires in the US followed by China in second place with 147 billionaires).

One should note that 20% of the top 100 billionaires are under the age of 50. Owners are getting younger (on average by 10 to 15 years than they were 20 years ago). For those for whom yachting has become a passion and a mean to unwind, their expectations have changed. Compared to those of their “fathers” who became owners relatively late in life, the yachts of these new owners often have to meet the needs of an extended family with children. A new generation conscious of its duty to protect the marine world is leading to increasingly eco-friendly yachts being built. These are enthusiastic owners, better informed and advised for whom the purchase of a yacht is a more carefully thought-out project.

For some, like Laurent Perignon, COO of Camper & Nicholson, it’s not a crisis but a return to a normal situation. “Obviously, we are not seeing a return to the crazy years of 2003-2008, but now it is the reality of yachting in general.” Marc Ovanessian, Administrative and Finance Director at ITM, adds: “The market has changed. It is the reality of the market, we will have to resize and reformulate our companies.”

Boatyards doing maintenance note that less is being spent and it’s more controlled. An era of cutting costs that in the medium term could affect safety, warns maritime expert Eric Ogden and lawyer Jean-Jacques Ollu.

All agreed that everyone has to work harder and better for the same turnover and to keep people employed. Bernard d’Alessandri took the chance to point out that 1,000 jobs directly depend on yachting in Monaco.

Tony Allen, a lawyer with Hill Dickinson is more optimistic, particularly at the premium end of the market, where a significant number of clients have recently completed orders for very large vessels. In his opinion, the keys to success for boatyards are pedigree, quality, transparency and closer collaboration with their clients.

- An industry that relies on a traditional market (USA & Europe)
According to Hein Velena, the charter market is bearing up better. American customers, the first to exit the crisis and helped by the dollar’s exchange rate, are returning to Europe, up 10% compared to 2011, followed by Russian and Brazilian clients.

“Today we face political instability in Russia which encourages potential clients to remain discreet although there is strong interest from a young Russian clientele,” observes Sergei Dobroserdov, Director of Nakhimov.

However, given the problems encountered by European clients, it is imperative to look at other markets. “On the point of retiring from this exciting profession and based on experience gained since 1968, I am convinced it is in a crisis that man finds his creativity and solutions. It is up to us, to you, to keep the New Small Yachting World alive,” said Antoine Althaus, founder of Fraser Yachts (Monaco).

- China: working towards a patient conquest?
Like the agreement signed recently between the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Visun Royal Yacht Club under the label La Belle Classe Destination, the Chinese appear to want to learn about the yachting lifestyle. Bernard d’Alessandri observes that facilities are ready with nearly 400 marinas in place.

However, we need to take into account their ancestral culture, the complete opposite to that of the West, including a desire to protect themselves from the sun, restrictive legislation on yacht imports (43.6% tax and only boats less than a year old can be imported), and not forgetting the numerous regulatory constraints inherent in navigation.

“We are owned, as to a 75% share, by Weichai Group. Working therefore closely with them, I can tell you they are working to learn and teach in China the ‘Life Style’ and if we in the West will be able to support them and be willing to revise our products and we are willing to listen and understand their way of life, I think, that since the speed of growth of that market, and their dynamism and their wealth… the Boat Industry world is promising in the medium and long-term”, says Luca Boldrini, Sales Director of CRN (Ferretti Group). A degree of optimism shared by Alberto Spina, announcing the imminent launch of a services yard in Hainan.

Although a lot of professionals say they will be taking part in the next Hainan Rendez-vous (30 March – 2 April 2013), many think we will have to be patient before being able to sell yachts in Asia.

By contrast and in the short-term, the Riviera and Monaco are attractive destinations for this clientele. It is essential to focus on the quality of the welcome by adapting to suit their interests to help them discover the yachting “lifestyle”.

Looking beyond Asia, some, like Marcello Maggi, President and co-founder of Isa Superyachts, are relying on emerging South American markets whose navigational culture is closer to that of traditional yachting.

- An industry that must unite
MYBA (brokers), SYBAss (superyacht builders), PYA & GEPY (captains) and more recently LYBRA – many associations have been created so professionals can organise around their sector of the business. However, Alberto Spina finds it regrettable that “the lobbying is too fragmented! We have to be heard as one voice!”

A view shared by Tony Allen, whose law firm specialises in international yachting and is opening an office in Monaco next month: “The other big challenge is coping with new regulations (fiscal (VAT), social (MLC), commercial (LY3) etc.) – it is inevitable and it’s only the beginning as our industry grows. Lobbying is also indispensable. We need to make ourselves heard as one voice. We are privileged to have been accepted by the Monegasque authorities to set up in Monaco, epicentre of luxury yachting.”

Eric Althaus, Senior Yachting Consultant confirms: “The keys to the future are here! If we do a thorough job, we can re-establish a situation of trust. Together we will be stronger, more professional. We are fortunate in benefiting from the experience and wisdom of our fathers. Don’t be impatient, Monaco is the centre of activity, the Principality’s strength lies in its ethics, welcome, and all the efforts made to develop its facilities, be it with the extension to Port Hercule or construction of the new YCM building.”

A willingness to collaborate and listen was reaffirmed by Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show: “The Monaco Yacht Show is there to serve the profession to the best of its ability and adapt the MYS format to keep up with trends and always to serve clients better in collaboration with the YCM.”

It was a chance for Bernard d’Alessandri to talk about the new YCM building due for delivery in 2013 with the inauguration set for 2014: “Designed by one of the great names in architecture, Lord Norman Foster, this building will include a Clubhouse which remains reserved exclusively for our members. It also has a mission to serve the Principality’s economic interests and demonstrates the commitment of the Monegasque authorities to yachting. In accordance with our statutes, this building will be a tool at the service of all those involved in this industry.”

Jean Castellini, Minister for Finance and the Economy, enjoyed this constructive overview and affirmed the government’s wish to make yachting a priority in its policy to develop and promote Monaco’s attractiveness. The proof is there in the “Monaco: Capital of Yachting” Commission, initiated a few years ago by the YCM and now under the Conseil Supérieur de l’Attractivité, studying how to highlight Monaco’s attractions. Their goal is to propose to the government areas to work on and actions to be taken to further boost the Principality of Monaco’s appeal on the international stage.

“Here in Monaco everyone faces the sea; we have a strong affinity with yachting. It’s an important sector for our Principality – it generates jobs and visibility. Chaired by Bernard d’Alessandri, through a participatory approach, this commission allows each stakeholder to express their ideas in a complementary and constructive manner adding to the debate and proposing new solutions. You have many diverse skills, a rich source of economic but also intellectual wealth creation. In anticipation of the new Yacht Club building, we are listening closely to your observations and we want to welcome talented people and encourage them to express their ideas.”

A strong message that was much appreciated by all the participants, delighted at the interest and support the Principality gives the sector to confirm its position as a centre of excellence in yachting worldwide.

Traditional winter cocktail for the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) members

December 14, 2012

The Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) sailors have been honoured with the Trophée Crédit Suisse YCM Awards 2012, presented by HSH Prince Albert II, the Club’s President, at the recent traditional winter cocktail for members. HSH Prince Albert II has also welcomed the first “La Belle Classe Destinations” signatory in Asia.

Sino-Monegasque friendship
To mark the occasion a delegation from the Visun Royal Yacht Club, led by its president Lawrence Wang, had made the trip from China to discover the Principality and Yachting. Along with Mr Jianqiang Bian, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, they were welcomed by HE Mrs Catherine Fautrier, Monaco’s Ambassador to China and Peter Liu, the YCM’s first Chinese member and very committed to promoting his club and the Principality in general in Asia.

In his speech, HSH Prince Albert II said: “While the Principality of Monaco may be recognised today as a centre for Yachting, it is our responsibility to encourage and support any initiative in this field. Therefore, in continuity with the actions taken by “La Belle Classe Tradition” and “La Belle Classe Superyachts”, I wanted us to be in a position to issue a “La Belle Classe Destinations” label to encourage development of outstanding marinas throughout the world. It is therefore with great pleasure that we formalise this first agreement with the Visun Royal Yacht Club. Together, we hope to develop exchanges between our two countries and promote in Asia the maritime activities we hold so dear.”

La Belle Classe by the YCM: to unite owners around Yachting values
According to its statutes and ambition to provide “a real link between people who love the sea”, the Yacht Club de Monaco created the label “La Belle Classe by the Yacht Club de Monaco”, to support owners around a certain Art de Vivre la Mer and to pass on a priceless maritime and cultural heritage.

Launched in 2005 for owners of vintage and classic yachts (“La Belle Classe Tradition”), then in 2008 for those with luxury yachts (“La Belle ClasseSuperyachts”), the YCM unites owners and all those involved in the yachting sector by providing a platform for communication and discussions, for example Monaco Classic Week (11-15 September 2013), and economic (23 January 2013) and environmental (26 March 2013) symposiums, organised every year in the form of dinner-debates.

Keen to support yacht owners at sea and in their choice of ports of call worldwide, the Yacht Club de Monaco has extended its “La Belle Classe” concept to embrace marinas and clubs, by creating a third entity,“La Belle Classe Destinations”. The goal is to create an exclusive network of understanding and collaboration, through a standard of excellence for marinas, with support and monitoring to guarantee the quality of services. Safeguarding maritime heritage, protecting the environment, integrating and being involved in the local community, with the indispensable presence of a Yacht Club, where owners can enjoy the social life, are essential criteria for retaining this label.

By joining “La Belle Classe by the YCM”, a signatory commits to respecting a charter and affirming their desire to promote courtesy and mutual respect; where the word regatta is synonymous with fair-play and spectacle, and etiquette with lifestyle and solidarity; and where technology is at the service of preserving the environment and developing yachting: a way of confirming their desire to build the future!

Visun Royal Yacht Club: first signatory of La Belle Classe in Asia
Presided by Lawrence Wang, the Visun Royal Yacht Club in Sanya on the “Chinese Riviera” is the first signatory in Asia to join this exclusive network.

This astute businessman was one of the first to invest in the yachting sector in China, specifically Hainan Island, by building a Yacht Club and marina facilities (216 mooring rings) for boats up to 60m. The site is still being developed, and a basin of 160 moorings including two spaces for mega-yachts up to 100m is under construction, with the total capacity expected to harbour 1,000 boats in three years’ time in Hainan.

The Club organises many social events and corporate regattas, and hosts the Hainan Rendez-Vous, the biggest and most exclusive superyacht show in China with many of the big yachting and luxury brands attending. More than 70 nautical companies (shipyards, marinas, retailers and brokers) are already registered for the Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 (30 March to 2 April 2013).

“The yachting market is expanding fast. The Chinese are not yet a great nation of sailors but attitudes are changing: for many, yachting has become a very important indicator of luxury on a social level. The potential for development is all the more significant give that China has 18,000km of coastline, more than 6,500 islands and four big rivers,” observes Bernard d’Alessandri, Secretary General of the YCM.

Some statistics on yachting in China:
•    In 2011, statistics show that total sales revenue for imported boats was around $342 million and this market is expected to triple within 5 years (Source: MDC / NDA Consulting, 2012).
•    Exports & imports of yachts and pleasure boats have seen double-digit growth since 2004, with a drop in 2009 due to the global economic crisis (Source: Italian Trade Commission – April 2011)
•    The value of imports grew by 134% to US$ 91M (US$ 39M in 2009), reaching an historic high.
•    There are nearly 300 boatyards making pleasure craft in China (IAG Yachts, Kingship…) concentrated on the Chinese coast, of which 88 are building yachts.
•    Around 100 foreign yacht brands (Azimut, Sunseeker, Benetti Yachts, Princess Yachts, Bénéteau-Jeanneau…) are marketed through 80 distributors.

YCM Awards 2012 – Trophée Credit Suisse: Esimit Europa II records honoured
While the YCM Youth Awards, which encourage the Club’s talented youngsters, saw tributes paid to Alexander Ilsley in the Optimist category and Nicolas Bouchet in the Laser, the YCM Awards 2012 all recognises the member who has best defended the Club’s burgee during the past year.

The Trophée Credit Suisse 2012 was won by Igor Simcic on Esimit Europa II superyacht for the numerous records he set in 2012, in particular the Giraglia in 14 hours 56 minutes 16 seconds, the Wally Record in 10 hours 13 minutes 42 seconds and the Trieste Valletta in 68 hours 42 minutes and 24 seconds.

HSH Prince Albert II also paid tribute to the “domination of Vincenzo and Achille Onorato with their Macalzone Latino on the Melges 32 and Melges 20 circuit, the victory of Andres Soriano in the Copa del Rey and in Soto 40 in Valencia, the strong showing of our members on the AC45 circuit and in the next 34th America’s Cup (on challengers Luna Rossa, Artemis and Team New-Zealand).”

Up there with the rest was Ian Ilsley, Monaco’s one-design specialist who won both the International Smeralda 888 Championship and the J/24 Monegasque Championship.

Focus on 2013
As the Yacht Club de Monaco celebrates its 60th anniversary, 2013 is set to be busier and more active than ever with sports events, social events, training our young sailors, strengthening ties and establishing new ones with the world’s most enterprising yacht clubs, and now its involvement in protecting the environment and oceans.

Twelve teams of children aged 12 to 15 representing 10 nations will descend on Monaco for this international event, with the Yacht Club Argentino, one from Tanzania and two Russian teams, Seven Seas Yacht Club (Vladivostock) and St Petersburg River Yacht Club taking part for the first time.

-29th Primo Cup- Trophée Crédit Suisse (1 to 4 and 8 to 10 February)
With nigh on 1,000 sailors coming from all over Europe, representing a good 15 nationalities, the Primo Cup – Trophée Credit Suisse is one of the biggest winter events in Europe and kicks off the international yachting season in style. Series admitted: J/80, B/One, Dragon, J/24, Melges 20, Platu25, Surprise, Star and Longtze Premier (1st to 4th February) and J/70, SB20, Smeralda 888, Esse 850, Melges 20, M34, X-35 and IRC classes 1 to 4 (8 to 10 February).

-2k Team race J/24 (8-10 March)
A novel match racing event in teams, it puts the emphasis on the collective result and not individual performance. Each ‘team’ is made of up two crews of which three members have to be ladies.

-Monaco Classic Week – La Belle Classe: 11 to 15 September 2013
This is undoubtedly the year’s most highly anticipated event, withowners, crews and fans of the classic scene looking forward to the roar of the speed boats, the timeless elegance of the motor-yachts, majestic parades of sailing yachts and of course the racing.

-J/24 Europe Championship (5 to 12 October)

Twenty years after the first edition in the Principality, the YCM will again host the J/24 European Championship which bring the world’s elite sailors in this series to Monaco, considered to be one of the biggest one-design fleets in the world. A great way to end the year!

The Bernetti Lombardini Cup 2012 Winner Esimit Europa 2 Superyacht

October 08, 2012

The 41st edition of the Bernetti Lombardini Cup in Italy‘s Trieste hosted around 200 yachts. With the victory in the Open class, the Esimit Sailing Team secured its success from the last season’s race and keeps its amazing shape for the next races. Also for Ivan Kljaković Gašpić, Esimit Europa 2 yacht’s new crew member, the Bernetti Lombardini Cup was the big test before one of the largest regattas in the world, the Barcolana, starting next week.

The Bernetti Lombardini Cup in Trieste (Italy) represents an exciting preliminary race for the Barcolana regatta. The fleet was divided into three classes. At 9:30 AM CEST the Open class left the heart of Trieste, followed by ORC and IRC classes. The fleet was heading north-west to the first buoy off Grignano, then tacked towards Santa Croce, came back to the new established buoy and crossed the finish line in the Gulf of Sistiana.

After 1 hour and 15 minutes, sailing yacht Esimit Europa 2 crossed the finish line as the fastest yacht on the course. By that, the 30-meter maxi yacht also defended the victory in the Open class, awarded with the popular Bernetti Cup. The award ceremony will take place a week later on Saturday, 13th October in Miela Theatre in Trieste, Italy.

The Bernetti Lombardini Cup was at the same time a very successful premiere for the new sailor onboard superyacht Esimit Europa 2, European and World Champion in different sailing classes Ivan Kljaković Gašpić, who composed his thoughts about his first race with the Esimit Sailing Team: “It has been exciting to race together with so many successful sailors coming from all over Europe. It is the first time I have sailed on Esimit Europa 2, which is a really impressive and technologically highly advanced yacht. The team embodies a unique spirit, which I admire, and I am proud to take part in the project with such an inspiring vision.”

The crew continues showing impressive results in this season after setting new course record at the Giraglia Rolex Cup, smashing the Wally record Monaco – Porto Cervo, taking line honours at the Palermo – Monte Carlo regatta and taking the title in the Maxi racing class at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. On the October 14th the European sports team is heading for the hat-trick at the 44th edition of the Barcolana in Trieste. In 2010 the blue racer established the course record (56 minutes, 13 seconds) and it also won the 2011 edition in front of thousands of spectators at a true sailing festival in the heart of Trieste.

The Esimit Europa 2 yacht sails under the flag of the European Union, is registered in Cyprus, a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco, competes for the Slovenian Sailing Federation and on board joins sailors from 8 different European countries. It is under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and endorsed by Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament. Its main sponsor is the global energy company Gazprom, while BMW is the official partner.

As a nation, Croatian sailors have extremely good results in Olympic sailing classes; therefore I am looking forward to the new challenge and at the same time prove that we can be equally successful by sailing big boats. Being a part of the European team of sailing superstars is just an additional motivation for me to work really hard and to contribute towards future victories of the Esimit Europa 2 yacht.”

Igor Simcic and Kljakovic Gaspic

Kljakovic Gaspic and Igor Simcic

Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project, is very happy about Ivan Kljaković Gašpić joining the Esimit Sailing Team: “With him onboard, we are getting an ambitious sailor with perfect technical background, who also understands maxi yachts’ specifics and necessity of overcoming personal interests for the common goal. People actually want more and more to have a lot of toys on board, to carry a sailing dinghy for the children, and to have fun with friends.

The explorer yacht 42 EXP provides the stability, safety and range that can unshackle owners from normal yachting restrictions and allow them to explore remote and un-spoilt cruising destinations with a more fuel efficient yacht.

These kind of yachts are designed for long-range cruising with the accommodations and facilities an owner needs to spend months at a time on the water.

Following this increasing trend, Sanlorenzo entered in this niche with its philosophy and its peculiar style, introducing at the last Monaco Yacht Show the Sanlorenzo 42 EXP yacht.

The idea behind the new Sanlorenzo motor yacht 42 EXP is to match with these concepts, and to develop a yacht that includes these characteristics.

The Sanlorenzo 42EXP yacht offers more volume compared to its size, less consumption for extended use, and a viable option for those who are downsizing. She provides self-sufficiency, the ability to carry extra equipment and a wide variety of toys, superior sea keeping with reduced draught for coastal navigation, long range and fuel efficiency.

Great attention is paid to the environment and its conservation: the 42 EXP yacht is classified Green Plus and can remain in bay at anchor for 48 hours without switching on the generators, getting rid of emissions, vibrations and noises.

The result is an intriguing design that does not squeeze in too much, but gives appropriate space to key elements of the project. The standard layout will offer four guest cabins on the lower deck, and one full-beam master suite on the main deck. The lower deck will also offer comfortable crew quarters, the captain getting his own cabin on the upper deck.

The aft section on the lower deck will offer a beach club with bar, sauna and dive station.

Still on the lower deck is placed a huge and well organized fitness area, with a counter-current pool and a well equipped gym.

The main deck aft is an informal area with shaded aft seating, while the aftermost part will make a sunning area with great views when toys are launched. The upper saloon can be opened to the aft deck to give fresh air.

Fitted with the very latest technology, Sanlorenzo 42 EXP yacht offers unparalleled comfort and space, inside and out, together with a reduced need for maintenance that gives owners the chance to enjoy even more time at sea.

The style of the décor is in line with the general conception of a long range yacht: extended use of classic kind of wood as mahogany and teak, matched with a sober, elegant and timeless furnishing combined with intense colour leather, generating a relaxing atmosphere for the guests. The use of space and light, the references to naval culture and tradition, the choice of high quality and sobriety materials obtains a look of simplicity and elegance.

Sanlorenzo motor yacht SL118

September 25, 2012

One of three new Sanlorenzo models, unveiled during the annual meeting at Yacht Club de Monaco in Monaco on September 21, was the splendid SL118 superyacht. Motor yacht SL118 belongs to the planing hull motoryacht range – a strong point of this prestigious Italian builder for more than three decades.

The flagship of this fleet is luxury yacht SL 108, almost 35 meters, followed, three years ago, by SL 104 (an example can be motor yacht Indigo), nearly 33 meters, the number one of the new course of the range, enriched by more modern marks, but respectful of the unmistakable Sanlorenzo style.

In the outlook of an extended renovation of this range the yard felt the requirement, also from customers, of a new flagship, of a larger size with more spaces and more advanced solutions.

This is the origin of SL 118, purest Sanlorenzo SL line, interpreted in a bigger way and strengthened with avant-garde features. The yacht is a semi-wide body in the front part, but with the volumes exceptionally well integrated in the profile of the boat thanks to the windows shaping and the contrast of black and white between windows and superstructure, that exalts the family feeling connoting the range.

On the new flagship one can find some elements already encountered on SL 104, as the large salon windows, the metal grey painted pillars, the transparent handrail of the flying bridge to always allow a pleasant view from the boat top, the transom with the teak hand rail and the steel frieze.

The more than 36 meters Loa combined with the semi-wide body configuration allow unusual spaces, as the well organized sunbathing area in front or the folding terraces on the sides of the owner suite and the salon amid ship, as on the famous and multi awarded 40 Alloy (an example is motor yacht 111).

The style of the yacht is expressing an extended modernity and a spread innovation through out all the boat. The helm station for instance, placed on the half deck, is a concentrate of ergonomic advanced solutions with the four control system screens each individually standing, and the navigator corner as on a commercial aircraft.

The interior layout and decoration is expressing even more freely, a limitless conception of the interior space full of proposals and charm. A wide use of double glazing as bulkheads on the lower deck permits to separate the guest cabins leaving the light flowing through the space and consenting a total view of the full beam. The sound proofing is guaranteed and privacy is obtained simply lowering the curtains each cabin has.

A skilful and courageous lighting system hidden over the canvas roofs can softly spread the light from the spots that remain invisible when not in use during the day.

Light colors, straight lines, resin floors, sanded wood on the bulkheads on the main deck give a relaxing atmosphere to the space. All the windows in the salon are opening and combined with he folding terraces give to the living area a positive and natural relation interior/exterior to better an totally enjoy the seascape.

The stair case connecting the main deck to the flying bridge is in glass and the stair has suspended steps, as more than once applied on the 40 Alloy.

To ensure low power consumption much attention has been paid to the weight. All fiberglass products are in fact constructed by the infusion process. The interior cells cabins housing modules are supported by aluminum frames floating ensuring also an excellent sound insulation and anti-vibration. The flagship of Sanlorenzo is also prepared for the installation of a plant for the biological treatment of all waters on board. The system brings the boat into compliance with the most restrictive and recent legislation on environmental pollution.

The transom door opens on a wide garage becoming a large beach club. In the engine room two Mtus with 1,939 kW (2,600 HP) push SL 118 up to 28 knots max speed, with a cruising speed of 24 knots.
