In order to meet the needs of superyachts as well as megayachts, Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona faces its fourth winter season providing a great range of services and facilities. Improvements have also been carried out in the technical area to increase the capacity to lift yachts, which consisted in the extension of the finger pier for the travel lift. Additionally, a new on site painting service has been put into place this year thanks to an agreement with ADP Yacht Painting, Spanish company with more than 25 years experience in the industry.

In collaboration with its Spanish partner ADP (Alfonso de Prada), the superyacht marina Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona has launched a permanent, agile as well as high quality painting service for its clients.

Since March, the new yacht painting service offers a wide array of solutions that include painting of hulls and superstructures, antifouling removal, application of epoxy rust inhibitors, osmosis treatment, mast painting and burnishing, amongst others.

ADP’s 25 years experience in the nautical industry enables Vilanova’s technical area to offer a certified professional quality service with the use of cutting edge technologies in maintenance and application of products that aim to achieve high customer satisfaction levels, such as metalized finishing and propellers and shafts silicone treatments. In this sense, Vilanova’s technical area, through its partner ADP, has agreements with the industry’s top brands such as Awlgrip, International Marine Coatings Antifoulings, Epifanes Varnishes, West System y Propspeed.

The division employs a team of professionals permanently based at Vilanova’s facilities and offers a technical management service led by engineers for the supervision of applications and treatments. Alfonso de Prada, CEO of ADP, stressed the strategic value of the collaboration agreement with Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona and commented: “The facilities of Vilanova’s technical area are excellent for yacht maintenance and refit and enable us to carry out projects in an efficient and comfortable manner. Following the successful campaign last year, Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona in Spain offers superyachts free berthing days during the upcoming spring months for the second consecutive year. It mainly focuses on those luxury superyachts coming back from the Caribbean that are looking for a facility enabling them to prepare for the summer charter season.

The Spring promotion for 2012 includes, as well as free dockage for several days, discounts on rental fees for longer stays, in line with last year’s campaign, which showed excellent results.

The management at Vilanova expects to register an improvement in occupancy from March to June in comparison to 2011 and reach its maximum level since it opened in April 2009.

General Manager Ignacio Erroz said: “We believe our marina is the perfect facility for superyachts to prepare for the charter season. We are confident we will see more activity this spring since we are starting to receive our first bookings for the season”.

The 54m (177ft) sailing yacht Parsifal III, built by the renowned Italian shipyard Perini Navi left the Vilanova Grand Marina shipyard last December, after the mast repaint job taking two months. The works on the charter yacht Parsifal III consisted of the repainting of the 65m carbon fibre mast, mizzen as well as booms and were led by Vilanova’s team, THL Yacht Riggers and Mallorca-based paint company Rolling Stock Finishing & Refinishing.

The luxury yacht Parsifal III mast repaint is one of the largest projects carried out so far at Vilanova’s shipyard since it became operational at the beginning of last year. The 8,000 sq m specialist repair & refit technical area offers a comprehensive service of dry docking and final preparation of yachts. The shipyard and the marina, boasting 49 berths for 25 to 100m yachts, are integrated in a single, consolidated space bringing added value to its customers.

Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona announces new facilities and services to continue satisfying the needs of superyachts. During the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show the specialised marina announced that its helipad has complete operational capacity, permitting the yacht owners to access the marina quickly, more comfortably and in complete privacy. Helicopters can also take off and land on the flight desk of superyachts that are moored at the marina.

Additionally the Vilanova Grand Marina has increased the number of storerooms available to its customers with the completion of a building with sixteen 17-square-metre storerooms that can also be used as private covered car parks.

The major development that the marina will undertake in the near future is the construction of a 2,000-square-metre area for the exclusive use of captains and crew. This new land-based facility will consist of a building featuring a gym, changing rooms and an indoor leisure area and will be surrounded by a green area with BBQ’s facilities.

The activity at the marina continues to rise in line with expectations. 2010 was a good, satisfactory year with a wintering activity that doubled that of the previous year in terms of turnover. Ignacio Erroz stated: “Our marina has certainly found its place within the Superyacht industry as shown by our level of occupancy. We expect our activity to continue growing in 2011 in view of the number of confirmations we have had so far”.

On its eleventh edition, this annual gala function is considered one of the most prestigious evenings in the Monaco Yacht Show calendar and a must go event for all  captains attending the show.

The marina has been sponsoring this yachting event  for three years now, delighting its guests with a taste of Spanish delicacies and offering the three winners – the best Charter Captain of  the year and the two best Charter Performance Yachts of the year – free mooring for two weeks  at its facilities. The best Captain will also receive this year a special prize consisting of a  weekend trip for two people to Barcelona.

Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona offers a comprehensive service of dry docking and final preparation of yachts, which range from a simple inspection, hull cleaning and antifouling application to a complete refit. As well as having its own personnel to carry out these works, the marina employs some of the best professionals specialised in repair & refit of yachts. The first phase of the technical area, which has been operational since the beginning of this year, is now working at full capacity and has already exceeded the company’s expectations.

The new workshop area, currently under construction, will be operational at the end of June on renting bases. Theses workshops will be used to carry out all the usual activities of a shipyard such as mechanic repairs, carpentry, paint works, etc. Within the next few weeks, the marina expects to sign agreements with widely experienced professionals in order to increase the array of services offered, always ensuring an excellent value for money.

The first phase of the technical area occupies an area of over 8,000 sq m and has a 200-tonne travel hoist built by the Italian company Cimolai S.P.A. As well as dry docking, paint works, repair and refit, the new shipyard will launch in September a boat storage promotional campaign during next winter season for all users of the marina and any other harbour along the Catalan coast.

Once completed, the technical area of Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona in Spain will occupy a total surface of 30,000sq m and will feature two painting sheds, a 300-metre waiting dock and an 800-tonne travel hoist, which will allow all different types of repair & refit projects to be carried out.

Captains and crew enjoy the Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona Ski Weekend

Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona organised a skiing weekend for captains and crew in Baqueira Beret, in the Catalan Pyrenees. Over 30 people signed up for this activity to discover one of the most beautiful valleys of the Pyrenees, located just over 3 hours drive from Vilanova, and share a good time with friends and new acquaintances.

The activity was sponsored by the marina’s partner BWA Yachting, worldwide leader in concierge and marine agency services to the superyacht industry, which offered attendees a courtesy dinner on the day of arrival. Edward Pegan, Commercial Manager of BWA Yachting comments, “We are pleased to collaborate with Vilanova Grand Marina in servicing the marina’s customers and taking part of this type of initiatives. We hope we will have new opportunities to participate in other activities organized by the marina in the future”.

The skiing weekend was one of the activities included in the sport and leisure programme that the marina organised for captains and crew staying at its facilities over winter. Other activities include wine and food tasting, barbecues and guided tours to vineyards and wineries of the neighbouring region of Penedès, home of some of the best Catalan still and sparkling wines.
