A large and powerful ketch rig together with sleek flowing hull lines and a super-efficient centreboard give Twizzle yacht great performance under sail. The quality of her design and construction and the beauty of her interior styling make this yacht truly unique.

In close collaboration with Redman Whiteley Dixon, who were the interior designers and exterior stylists, Dubois Naval Architect developed the hull and deck layout, sail plan, naval architecture, aluminium structure and propulsion layout into a perfectly integrated package.

Yacht Twizzle’s ‘green’ credentials are particularly commendable. She is certified to the highest standards for operation in the world’s most sensitive marine environments, including Alaska.

Further demonstrating their commitment to the quality of the ocean environment, Twizzle‘s thoughtful owners have put in place a policy to off-set the carbon emissions of all her fuel use. All greenhouse gas emissions arising from Twizzle’s forthcoming cruising programme will be balanced, tonne for tonne, by compensating emissions savings from green energy projects.

Sailing yacht Twizzle is actually the second Dubois design to be built by Royal Huisman Shipyard. The first was a 42ft racing yacht built way back in 1978! It has been a long wait for us to have the pleasure of working with this wonderful organisation again.

Super Sailing yacht Twizzle to carbon offset her fuel and construction

September 03, 2010

Megayacht Twizzle is proud of its Green credentials and strives to be exceptionally eco-friendly.  Not only has sailing yacht Twizzle ensured that there is zero discharge into the sea, the yacht is certified to the highest levels for operation in the world’s oceans, including Alaska.

Yacht Carbon Offset has certified that emissions arising from S/Y Twizzle’s forthcoming cruising programme will be balanced tonne for tonne by equivalent emissions savings from green energy projects.  The one-off carbon offset for her construction is based on superyacht Twizzle’s aluminium and steel content, an allowance for other materials and components, and the estimated energy used at the shipyard.

Yacht Carbon Offset’s Managing Director Mark Robinson commented: “We warmly welcome Twizzle to the growing fleet of leading superyachts that have decided to take practical steps to offset their carbon footprint. In particular we are pleased to have enabled her Owner to take this policy further than any other Superyacht to date, by extending the scope to include both the energy and the principal materials of her construction.

We have seen that Carbon Offsetting appeals to many of those that own and enjoy the world’s finest yachts and we thank Twizzle’s Owner and his team for putting this decision into action.”

Superyacht TWIZZLE was loaded onto a barge and shipped to the deep waters of Harlingen on the north coast of The Netherlands, using the local canal network (nciknamed Huisman’s ‘berthing canal’ by the yacht’s owner) and the waters of the Ijsselmeer inland sea before passing into the North Sea port of Harlingen, having passed through the locks of the North Sea Dyke.

It was in Harlingen, on the 12th July, that the 57.5m sailing was officially given her name by the owner’s daughter, witnessed by around 150 guests, including the CEO of the Royal Huisman Shipyard, Alice Huisman, naval architect Ed Dubois, Justin Redman, a principal of the design house Redman Whiteley Dixon, and Emily Todhunter of Todhunter Earle Associates who designed the megayachts’ interior. Charter sailing yacht TWIZZLE had her Mizzen and Main masts stepped the same day.

Sailing Superyacht Twizzle Launched by Royal Huisman

July 09, 2010

The keenly awaited 57.5 metre sailing superyacht Twizzle has had her preliminary launch by Royal Huisman. She is to receive finishing and fitting and will be rigged before her handover to the new owners following sea trials. Sailing yacht Twizzle is a Dubois designed flybridge ketch which was built for yacht owners who previously commissioned the motor yacht Twizzle which was built by another Dutch yard Feadship. The same owners also once owned a large 55m Perini Navi Sailing yacht.

Yacht Twizzle is designed and built for worldwide family cruising with speed safety and style. She is the first yacht the Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman has built which was styled by Redman Whiteley Dixon, with Todhunter Designers providing interior decoration together with the owners. S/Y Twizzle is also first new build flying bridge yacht the Dutch yacht builder has built which was designed by naval architecture by Ed Dubois – whose designs are often built by New Zealand yards.

The Imminent Launch of the Mighty 2010 Dubois Sailing Yacht TWIZZLE by Royal Huisman

June 17, 2010

Sailing yacht Twizzle, the majestic Dubois designed Royal Huisman built flybridge superyacht ketch is soon to be launched in Holland.

An experienced yacht owner couple, the former owners of motor yacht Twizzle, have brought an exciting yachting team together to build the 57 meter ketch rigged center board superyacht called sailing yacht Twizzle. This team includes Dubois Yacht Designers, Royal Huisman Yacht Builders and Redman Whiteley Dixon Design group as well as the owners themselves.

Interestingly, the name ‘Twizzle’ came from a TV puppet from the 1950’s. Click on this link to see the only episode in existence of the TV program. Superyacht Twizzle is the result of the Owner’s vision of a high performance, high tech sailing yacht with the cruising capability, the comfort and the luxury of a motor yacht.

For the Dutch Superyacht Builders, Royal Huisman, the Twizzle project has produced three important “firsts”:
Sailing yacht TWIZZLE is Royal Huisman’s first superyacht completely styled by the gifted team of Redman Whiteley Dixon, with Todhunter Designers providing interior decoration. The first yacht build with naval architecture by Ed Dubois and the first sailing yacht with a flying bridge. A very motivating aspect of this project for Royal Huisman was the comprehensive involvement of the owners alongside the architects, the stylists and the yard – a real working partnership within a stimulating team culture.

This elegant, 57.5m flybridge ketch is a noteworthy project for Royal Huisman and is the yard’s first yacht completely styled, inside and out, by the talented team of Redman, Whiteley Dixon – with interior décor from Todhunter Earle Associates. Naval architecture by Ed Dubois Associates represents another long-anticipated first for the yard; and this is Royal Huisman’s first flybridge sailing yacht.

Yacht Twizzle design plans

Designed and built by a team of the world’s finest designers, engineers and craftsmen, sailing yacht Twizzle epitomizes a unique vision to create the definitive family cruising and performance sailing yacht. The detailed approach to her design and construction has given birth to a sailing masterpiece. A beautifully proportioned and minimalist teak deck, concealing her advanced technology and two tenders, complements Twizzle’s clean and uncluttered lines.

Luxury yacht Twizzle’s interiors are designed to the same exacting standards with careful consideration being given to levels, proportion, eye lines, joinery style and materials. This exacting approach has resulted in an elegantly stylish yet comfortable and relaxed interior.

Twizzle is a performance sailing yacht with the comfort and amenity of a motor yacht. This means she can cruise anywhere and offer the luxury of an motor yacht and the fuel efficiency of a sailboat. Dubois have ensured this by a reduced wetted surface giving an easily driven hull and set a swing keel within the 3.8 meter draft fixed keel. Lightweight composite materials are widely used in the rig and in components above the waterline and an optimised beam and 120 tons of internal ballast secure stiffness and stability.

Charter Yacht Twizzle is a stimulating project because the owners are central to this talented team, bringing their own ideas (particularly in technology and design) and significant experience (yachts they have owned include a 47m Perini Navi and a 55m Feadship) to the process, adding challenge and momentum.

The vision is to create a high-performance sailing yacht with the comfort and amenity of a motor yacht. To this end Dubois have reduced wetted surface and set a swing keel within the 3.8m draft fixed keel. Lightweight composite materials are widely used in the rig and in components above the waterline whilst optimised beam and 120 tons of internal ballast secure stiffness and stability. The rig, with its 62m mainmast set to clear Panama’s Bridge of the Americas at low water, will carry 1,780 m2 of sail.

Justin Redman and his group have shaped a graceful flying bridge that combines a stylish profile with airiness and light below. Together with Emily Todhunter they have defined an interior with owners’ and guests’ accommodation abaft the engine room and crew forward. A central dining area and saloon are situated amidships above the engine room with the main galley on a mezzanine deck and the pilothouse on a raised deck.
