AM Shipyard presented the new 56m Modern Dhow design at this year’s Abu Dhabi Yacht Show

March 30, 2010

The new design Modern Dhow has been designed for the owner of Al Masaood group, which is also the owner of AM Shipyard. The vessel was designed specifically for the challenging conditions and environment for maintaining the conditions of superyachts in mind, this proved that the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show was the perfect place to showcase this unique yacht.

The Modern Dhow yacht caters for the owner who wishes to keep her in the same area, rather than moving around extensively. The yacht is designed on more traditional basis and will be conforming to exact spec of use of the yacht.  An example is the seating area, that accommodates up to 24 special seating arrangements that reflects the owners manner of hosting.

From the technical point of view, the water capacity will also be huge, to allow for the need for increased water allowance in a region, where drinking water is not always easily available. There is no teak decking or stainless steel on board due to adverse effect from sand in the region and the yacht will not feature many toys or tenders as it will mainly remain static and will not charter out.

Woessner was quick to acknowledge that the Dhow has been designed specifically for her owner and in local style, and is not  just meant as your average yacht for anybody. They have many other models for clients that might have other requirements and indeed have different varieties of the Dhow model, both larger and smaller. The Abu Dhabi Yacht SHow was meant to showcase their work however, with such understanding on the demands of the region reflected in the yacht design there might well be much interest from locals who wish to invest in such a yacht.

63rd Cannes Film Festival 12-23 May 2010.

March 03, 2010

Cannes Harbour Palais

The 63rd Cannes Film Festival will take place in Cannes, France from 12-23 May 2010.

This yearly event in Cannes demands the attention of the Entertainment World, as the movie industry congregates on the French Riviera to watch films, secure deals, socialize and award the best films and achievements of the past year.

The formal program takes place in the “Palais des Festivals” – which is the main convention center in Cannes with several theaters that will show movies nearly non-stop for 10 days. The Palais is directly next to the Old Port of Cannes.

American film director Tim Burton will be the President of the Cannes film festival Jury this year in what he said “is a dream come true”. The visionary screen story teller’s early film “Ed Wood” was shown at Cannes in 1995.

“The competition” is the festival’s main event and this is where you’ll find all the glamour and glory. Films in this section are referred to as being ‘in competition’ and compete for a variety of awards. The Holy Grail is of course the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) for best picture, which is one of the most prestigious awards a film can receive anywhere.

Chartering a super yacht, motor yacht boat or sailing yacht is a very effective way for a variety of companies and individuals to attract and entertain clients during the festival. Yachts can be “branded” with your company name allowing you to present a high profile during an event with close association to class and the elegance of Super Yachts. During the event the branded Super Yachts all lined up along the Jetée Edouard Albert is quite an impressive site. During the day, the yacht is an ideal floating office and conference venue for board for meetings and presentations. In the evening, the yacht makes an exciting venue for cocktail parties and dinners and finally becomes luxurious accommodation for guests overnight.

Yachts wanting to berth in the old port of Cannes next to the Palais des Festivals during an event must submit a berth application to the port of Cannes well in advance of the event. Chartering at the Cannes film festival however is not limited to large superyachts with confirmed berths in the port. It is also possible to charter a yacht in neighbouring ports or at anchor to use as accommodation, parties or meetings.
