As the 2014 edition showed, the show is well attended by luxury brands and visitors keen to buy. Over 3,800 individuals were involved and over USD$20 million of product was sold or completed as a result of many more leads followed up after the show.

Local expat and high-net-worth prospective buyers made up the majority of visitors with 49 nationalities represented in 2014. Russians, Europeans and Thais were strongly represented.

Impressive Display In The Water

All the leading brands have requested space in the in-water display as well as some debut appearances in Thailand. Max Marine Asia representing Sunseeker, Multihull Solutions who recorded the first sale on day one in 2014 and Gulf Craft/Majesty have confirmed their participation with two Thai debuts from Majesty including the motor yacht Majesty 105. Multihull Solutions will be showing the Summerland 40 and the Hella 44 Catamarans for the first time. Simpson Marine will introduce their new brand in Thailand, Monte Carlo Yachts, and the dock bookings are already in place.

The in water display looks set to break records with exciting new products overlooked by the boardwalk and Exhibition Hall.

Improvements to Royal Phuket Marina

Since the last show the Marine Department of Thailand have commenced a six month project to dredge the Koh Kaew canal which will give minimum depth access of 2m at LAT allowing deeper draft and larger vessels to take part. Dredging is scheduled to be completed by October 2014. This mirrors the provincial Governor’s and the Thai Government’s recognition of the importance of the marine Industry to the island economy.

Phuket on a Roll

As the industry positions itself for the next show in January the island hosts two major regattas in the next month. The Multihull Solutions Regatta kicks off on 10th July at Ao Chalong Yacht Club followed two weeks later by the Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Race Week. Top sailors from the region will descend on Phuket for the first event of the Asian Yachting Circuit.

Phuket Lifestyle: More Than Marine

Luxury lifestyle is also an important element of the show and will include Villa developments, condominiums, investment opportunities and other lifestyle products such as luxury cars.

Phuket is described as the jewel of the Andaman and is undoubtedly the centre and hub of the Marine Leisure industry in South East Asia with its pristine cruising grounds and excellent service support and infrastructure.

Following a successful three years of utilising the 180 tonne boat lift and 40m boat sheds for large vessel re-sprays, Desty will now operate a wider range of services on a full time basis from Endeavour Quay.

Desty Marine is increasingly working with premium UK power and sail yacht manufacturers including Sunseeker, Princess and Oyster. A Portsmouth Harbour based facility suits the business growth plan and enables the boat repair and paint contractors to provide an enhanced service to these all important clients.

With approximately 5000 leisure boats on Portsmouth Harbour, there are many business opportunities available and Desty Marine is one of the largest boat repair and marine paint contractors in the harbour itself. The successful repair and refit business will also look to meet their employment and skill needs using local resources to support their expanding staffing requirements at Endeavour Quay.

Neil Desty of Desty Marine commented, “Endeavour Quay has provided us with a great service since the start of our partnership.  The equipment for handling large boats such as the 180 tonne lift and deep water enable us to work on large paint projects that are also very complex. The boat sheds provide the perfect space for the high levels of labour and expensive materials required as the working environment is critical to provide the best result for our clients and we need to be sure we have an expert team handling the boats in and out of the sheds at all times.”

Tim usedell, Boatyard Manager at Endeavour Quay added, “We welcome Desty’s plans to make their base at Endeavour Quay more permanent and full time. Our business to business relationships are crucial to the success of the yard and offering the best services for our customers.  The relationship with Desty is no different and is one we are really keen to develop.”

June 13, 2014

Emerging from the Sunseeker Open Days of the past years, this new event presents itself as a joint project of the port and the nautical companies based in Port Adriano. This first edition of Best of Yachting offered the perfect platform for private yacht viewings with tailored recommendations, and was likely an important social gathering of like-minded yacht enthusiasts.

The recipe for success lies in the perfect blend of a quality swimming boat show and an attractive but just as important varied support program. The show presented up to 25 different boats between 6 and 40 meters of renowned yacht brands.

The event took place at the inner quay of the commercial zone of Port Adriano, which especially in the evenings fascinated many visitors with its maritime atmosphere. Sunseeker caught attention among visitors with the exhibition of a 115 foot yacht. Especially during the boat parade, taking place on Friday night, the 35-meter yacht caused goose bumps among many in the audience, who watched the boat sailing into the harbor in the sunset.

Besides the impressive line-up of yachts ranging from 40 to 115, Best of Yachting scored with its varied program of lifestyle activities for all ages. A fashion show, Flyboard exhibition, Bentley & Test Drive, a vernissage of Rolf Knie in the Ahoy Port Gallery and various activities for children completed the show on this very hot Pentecost weekend.
