Asia Boating Awards 2012 Winners with two awards for APSA members

May 14, 2012

A remarkable number of APSA members attended the Asia Boating Awards 2012 that was held in Hong Kong’s Grand Hyatt on 10 May, with two APSA founder members receiving important awards. YP Loke, on the management committee of the Association, was recognised with ´Personality of the Year´ award while Simpson Marine was awarded as the best Asia-based charter company.

The awards honoured many Asian companies in categories recognising both Asian and international activities. Perhaps the most notable was McConaghy Yachts of Zuhai‘s radical trimaran new launch 43m superyacht Adastra which won the international category award for best yacht design of the year. The design was carried out by UK designer John Shuttleworth.

The Asia Boating Awards proved to be a celebration and recognition of the quality of Asian superyacht businesses and also of shipyards and designers from outside the region, serves to underscore the importance of those companies and others joining the Association to further raise their profile – outwith the region for the Asia companies – and within the region for those shipyards and suppliers from Europe and America.

World Superyacht Awards 2012: Heesen Yachts Receive Two Neptune Trophies

May 10, 2012

The well known Dutch builder, Heesen Yachts, is happy to announce that the 50m motor yacht Satori as well as the 37m Aurelia superyacht have received Neptune Trophies at the prominent World Superyacht Awards which was held in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday May 5, 2012.

Heesen Yachts at the World Superyacht Awards 2012 with Neptune Trophy

Heesen Yachts at the World Superyacht Awards 2012 with Neptune Trophy

The 37m semi-displacement yacht Aurelia, prevailed over five other finalists in the very competitive “Raised pilothouse – semi-displacement or planning motor yacht” category. Aurelia sports a very different exterior look with her bright orange and blue color scheme that recalls Gulf Oil racing cars. Her precious and rich interior by Bannenberg and Rowell is inspired by the automotive theme. The judges commented: “An unusual, but very worthy winner”.

The 50m semi-displacement yacht Satori, won in the “Three-deck – semi-displacement or planning motor yacht” category, competing against six other superyachts.

Heesen luxury yacht Satori has been the most awarded yacht in the Heesen fleet. Last September in Cannes, she was awarded two Yacht Trophies and the prestigious Prix du Design by Prince Albert of Monaco. Frank Laupman drew her streamlined exterior and Rémi Tessier her sophisticated interior décor while naval architects from Heesen Yachts in collaboration with those of Van Oossanen have created her high-performing hull.

Powered by a pair of 2,720kW diesels, the 50m superyacht Satori can reach the remarkable speed of 24 knots, which places her amongst the fastest 50-metres afloat, while her fuel consumption at 12 knots is such that she attains a respectable 3,200 nm range.

Sales and Marketing Director Fabio Ermetto comments: “The Neptune Trophy has become synonymous with excellence in superyacht build and design and is considered the Oscar of our industry. That two of our vessels have received this recognition is an immense honor for all of us at Heesen Yachts. I would like to thank the owners of Satori and Aurelia for having trusted our shipyard in building their dream yachts. None of this would have been possible without their inspiration and vision so we would like to extend our sincere congratulations to them for this tremendous achievement! Hats off to the organizers who have once again demonstrated their ability to stage a perfect event.”

These important recognitions for two Heesen semi-displacement yachts confirm that this Dutch shipyard is the undisputed world leader in design, engineering and construction of all aluminium luxury vessels.

The ancient city of Istanbul straddles the narrow Bosphorus Strait separating Europe and Asia, and with one foot in each continent embodies the best of both cultures. A city variously called Byzantium, Constantinople and more recently Istanbul, it has been the capital of three Empires, each leaving a heritage of architecture, places of worship and monuments.

21st Monaco Yacht Show reports extraordinary success

October 05, 2011

Just like in the previous years, the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show proved to be a successful superyacht business event. Four days of beautiful Mediterranean sunshine provided for a wonderful backdrop to over 100 superyachts, with over 40 yachts making their worldwide premiere. The internationally renowned and glitteringly gorgeous event was buzzing with wealth and business excitement. The 21st Monaco Yacht Show was perhaps the most successful show since its launch 21 years ago.

28,200 visitors, slightly up on last year’s attendance, came to view superyachts from 25 to 86 metres.  This year’s large yacht line up included: Steven Spielberg’s Seven Seas (86 m), Cakewalk (85 m) the largest on display this year and Imagine the high volume 64 metre yacht from Amels. Prima the brand new yacht from Columbus Yachts was one of a handful of yachts from builders who have never built a yacht before. Adrenaline junkies loved motor yacht Shooting Star a superfast 38 metre superyacht by Espen Oeino and Danish Yachts while sailing enthusiasts crowded around Hemisphere catamaran to catch a glimpse of the world’s largest catamaran built for luxury cruising.

Yachts for sale included charter yacht Big Fish one of the most dramatically designed discovery yachts that has, since her launch last year, already explored the globe and visited Antarctica. Proving the business prowess of the Show, a 42 metre Turkish built superyacht sailed into the show as motor yacht Nomade and departed with her new name Bar Tender yacht painted on the stern having been sold during the show. The Dutch builder Jongert used the show to conclude the signing of a contract that will see them build a 46 metre motor yacht designed by Dubois.

Exhibitor displays were equally important to visitors. This year Monaco afforded the industry the most spectacular selection of things to see. More than 500 industry leaders exhibited luxury products, services and facilities and then Show provided the essential opportunities for industry professionals to network.

Confidence was high that the superyacht industry was sailing forward towards a bright horizon despite the gloomy world economy. The real benefits the Monaco Show will bring to exhibitors that attended are only determined over the weeks that follow the event, but many left the show on a high, enthused by the quality and quantity of enquiries.

Miriam Cain, Communications Manager, Camper & Nicholsons, UK said, “At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show we welcomed a large number of existing and new clients. All our yachts on display received good interest, and the feeling is that the market overall continues, albeit slowly, to improve.”

Billy Smith, Vice President at Trinity Yachts knows that the Monaco Yacht Show always brings solid inquiries. He said, “Interest level seemed to be up from last year. Of course, while we are at the show expressly to showcase our custom superyachts, we appreciate the opportunity to network at the many fine events which run concurrently throughout the show.”

Hein Velema CEO Fraser Yachts in Monaco was equally enthusiastic saying, “2011 at Monaco has seen a positive Show with plenty of qualified buyers, serious discussions, realistic prices and positive negotiations. Success at boat shows is never immediate and we have to study the reports of our brokers, but they were all kept extremely busy with qualified client viewings and consultations throughout the four days.”

Toby Walker, Director of Sales, with Dubois Yachts added, “We certainly now have pending negotiations started during the Show and we will continue to work on them to hopefully bring them to fruition.”

Alev Karagulle Director of Marketing and Communications at Burgess said, “We have every reason to believe that Monaco Yacht Show 2011 was a continued improvement to recent past years and will prove to be a key event in supporting our successful performance in this challenging market environment.”

Paul Cook, Operations Director at the electronic supply and fit firm: ANT said, “MYS 2011 reflected a feeling of positivity that despite the continued economic and political turmoil there was an air of genuine confidence within the Superyacht industry. We enjoyed the busiest Show ever with many new clients inviting us to be involved in different projects and current clients applauding our continued efforts to deliver proven cutting edge technology that suits their desires and needs.”

For most exhibitors and visitors alike the Monaco Yacht Show is the most successful show in the world’s yachting calendar but what makes it special are the events every day: charity auctions, prize giving, lunches, gala dinners and cocktail parties. These take the occasion into a class of its own without equal. As in previous years, Monaco Yacht Show organisers pledged a continuing support for Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies, a locally based charity with the organisers again donating 50% of all entrance ticket sales (EUR 52,700 this year) and co‐organising the 4 th edition of the world renowned Only Watch charity auction at Hotel Hermitage. This year, the once every two year event of 40 one‐off Swiss luxury watches closed with an outstanding result of EUR 4,563,000 that benefits research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The Monaco Yacht Show also continues its previously pledged support for Wood Forever a programme backed by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and one dedicated to fighting world deforestation. This year a donation of EUR 40,000 was made by the Show organisers. The money will be used to better educate those involved in the yachting that only wood certified as originating from sustainably‐managed forests should be used in construction, if deforestation is to be halted. The Show was also the occasion for Wood Forever to formalize the support of SYBAss and the new commitment of the US shipyard Burger Boat as very first member of the programme.

In association with Monaco Yacht Show, the RINA classification society presented the Green Plus Yacht certificates 2011 to Prima (2011/53.90m/Palumbo shipyard) and Numptia (2011/70m/Rossi Navi shipyard), two yachts whose construction meets with compliance of the strictest environmental regulations.  His Serene Highness Prince Albert II made the award to the yachts builders in the company of his guest; His Royal Highness King Juan Carlos of Spain who joined him on his tour of the show.

Earlier, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and His Royal Highness King Juan Carlos of Spain on their tour of the show also attended the Prix du Design MYS/ Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg. 2011 winner, motor yacht Satori (2011/50m/Heesen Yachts) was awarded for her “Pure Design” signed by the renowned French designer, Rémi Tessier.

Clearly the 21st Monaco Yacht Show overstepped the expectations of the industry, breaking the records of the event’s history.

Built on the experience of launching seventeen 44-47metre custom yachts, the hull of this new 50metre is the most efficient on the market. In consultation with Van Oossanen Associates, Heesen’s in-house naval architects created a sophisticated and highly efficient hard-chine hull. When combined with Heesen’s acknowledged weight reduction expertise and a pair of high power-to-weight ratio MTU 2.720kW engines, Satori delivers her stunning top speed as well as a very economical fuel burn, giving a particularly long range of 3.200 NM at 12 knots. Frank Laupman from Omega Architects designed the clean lines of this new 50metre semi-displacement:

The owner appointed the award-winning French designer, Rémi Tessier to create the elegant interior of M/Y Satori.

The yacht Satori will rendezvous with her owner in Monaco for the official christening, which will take place during the Monaco Grand Prix and for applying to be part of “La Belle Classe Superyacht”, a certification created by the Yacht Club de Monaco to unite owners who share similar yachting values. Being a member of “La Belle Classe” is a real commitment to an attitude where courtesy and respect reign, where regatta rhymes with fair-play, naval etiquette with “savoir-vivre” and elegance with spectacle. All members of “La Belle Classe” have shown their desire to be part of this very select Club by signing a charter which represents a genuine commitment and desire to build towards the future.

“La Belle Classe Superyachts” objectives are as follows:

- Respect for Etiquette: by complying with codes and customs which are the true heritage of the Yachting fraternity, taking account of the way a yacht’s owner and crew behave and dress, come to the aid of others, and respect all other yachts whatever the circumstances: these are the rules of courtesy and solidarity between members of “La Belle Classe”.
- Respect for the Environment and the Sea: by adopting an environmentally responsible attitude at all times, to include maintenance (with eco-friendly products) and employing new or existing technologies, such as ecologically sound fuels, hybrid engines, reducing CO2 emissions, the use of Pods to preserve the seabed, and other actions.
- An ability to innovate and embrace new technologies: by producing, adapting, employing and promoting new technologies, elegance and harmony of design, in order to develop Yachting while preserving the environment. Research is vital to the future evolution of this industry.

MY Satori and her owner will be fine additions to this exclusive Club, and exemplify all that is fine and good about yachting.

Heesen Yachts launch 50m Motor Yacht Satori

March 01, 2011

Motor Yacht Satori, the first of a new 50 metre all-aluminium design.

Heesen Yachts is proud to announce that on Friday, February 25, YN 15250 was launched at the shipyard facilities in Oss, the Netherlands. The Owner christened her Satori, a name that in the Zen Buddhist tradition refers to a sudden enlightenment that is considered the first step toward Nirvana.

The owner appointed the award-winning French designer, Remi Tessier to create the elegant interior of his yacht. Rémi Tessier believes that luxury lies in “the art of providing detail without ostentation and in exulting the essential”. As a result the interior of M/Y Satori looks extremely simple at the first glance, but as soon as the eye dwells upon the detail the extreme refinement of every single element clearly stands out.

Ten guests are accommodated between a master suite on the main deck and four guest cabins on the lower deck (two VIP full width and two twins). On the main deck the saloon of motor yacht Satori is divided into three distinct areas and features a notable round dining table, which can be lowered to create a more informal dining style. Following this simple operation the atmosphere of the saloon is completely changed, transforming it into a magnificent open space ideal for lounging and relaxation. Guests are able to enjoy their life at sea in four different exterior social areas. These comprise a 20 metre long, split-level sun deck with a large custom Jacuzzi, sunbathing terrace and bar; the forward cockpit with U-shaped enclosed sofas facing a large sunbathing area; the al fresco dining area on the upper deck aft; and the aft cockpit.

Captain Mark Lacey, who was also the owner’s Project Manager, comments:

“This yacht has pushed Heesen’s custom abilities to an even higher level of excellence. In yachting there are only two possible ways to react to a request from the owner: ‘Yes AND I will see what I can do’. In the construction of this yacht there has been emphatically no place for the response ‘this is not possible’ and we have approached the entire build with this inspiration in mind. Every person of the team has been working extremely hard to create a balanced and beautiful design that I hope will become a classic.”

Heesen Yachts has currently sixteen yachts under construction (a total length of 773m) which will be delivered to their owners by 2014. In 2010 the Dutch shipyard signed seven contracts and has signed a further one in early 2011.
