Icon Yachts reveals newest conversion: ‘Project Ragnar’

September 15, 2017

Written by Rachael Steele

Icon Yachts has announced that it will undertake the conversion of M/Y SANABORG, a 2012-built support supply vessel with ice-braking capabilities that will become a luxury expedition yacht under the codename of PROJECT RAGNAR.

The conversion will take place at the facilities in Harlingen in the Netherlands and will result in a 68m/223ft luxury explorer yacht capable of a range of 6,000 nautical miles.

The conversion from SANABORG to PROJECT RAGNAR

The conversion from SANABORG to PROJECT RAGNAR

Redman Whiteley Dixon has created several concepts for the exterior styling and PROJECT RAGNAR will feature a Certified ICE Class A1 hull, plus ICE Class PC5 rated electric driven ice pods and will be LY3 class compliant.

The space currently occupied by tanks will be converted into living spaces, with room for a Jacuzzi and a swimming pool while still leaving room for storage of tenders and toys. She is currently planned to have a helicopter, a Sea Explorer submarine and even a luxury Ripsaw EV2 on board.

Once completed, PROJECT RAGNAR’s luxury facilities will include a massage room, sauna, gym, an ice pool and a snow room along with a spacious main salon and extensive outdoor living spaces.

48m/157ft motor yacht ANDIAMO from Baglietto has the interior and exterior styling of Francesco Paszkowski Design in collaboration with Margherita Casprini for a cohesive appearance inside and out. Designed as a family yacht for a Mexican owner, superyacht ANDIAMO contains a cinema room, an infinity pool with waterfall and a large beach club, for which the tender garage was moved forward to create greater space.

Her truly lavish interiors are comprised of onyx and lacquered ebony and the central staircase is made of leather and steel. Spotted cruising in the Mediterranean over the summer, she will make her public debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival and will attend the Monaco Yacht Show at the end of September.

Created to appeal to all ages, the facilities are designed for both relaxation and entertainment with a balance between interior and exterior spaces: The sundeck accommodates a large spa pool and a bar with a lounge area for all-day outdoor living, while the lower deck is home to an extensive beach club as well as a gym and dive centre.

Mangusta 42 – Overmarine

Designed by Alberto Mancini and launched in April, the Mangusta 42 represents Overmarine‘s continued commitment to performance and unparalleled comfort. Among the amenities is a bow swimming pool with an infinity-effect waterfall, with two separate sunpads that dip down towards the waterline.  The glazed bottom of the pool forms the skylight to the Master suite below for optimal illumination that adds a beautiful dappled effect to the interior.

Appearance-wise, floor-to-ceiling windows run the length of the port and starboard sides to create a fluid appearance on both the main deck and the upper deck. As a result, the main salon and skylounge both receive plenty of natural light during the day and guests have uninterrupted views of their destination.

The Mangusta 42 has a range of 4,500 nautical miles when cruising at 11 knots and she has reduced noise and vibrations for a quiet night’s rest for all guests.

Elsea – CCN

50m/164ft all aluminium ELSEA was launched by CCN in April and features the exterior styling talents of Studio Bacigalupo, while Studio Vafiadis took care of the interior decor. She was an innovation for CCN and marked a new era in offering customised luxury yachts to owners interested in performance and interiors that more closely reflected their personality and requirements.

ELSEA is part of the Fuoriserie line of superyachts, and features a sleek white exterior with the power to reach up to 30 knots. The large foredeck is designed for entertaining and the owner requested a top of the line sound system to rival any nightclub’s. The interiors blend art deco with modern trends to create sophisticated lounges for guest relaxation. There are 6 large guest cabins aboard, one of which is a full-beam Master suite.

Feadship launches dive-focussed custom superyacht Samaya

September 06, 2017

Written by Rachael Steele

Feadship has announced the launch of 69m/226ft expedition yacht SAMAYA, a custom vessel designed for world-wide cruising and diving in some of the world’s most remote and unexplored regions.

Expedition yacht SAMAYA at the Feadship yard

Expedition yacht SAMAYA at the Feadship yard

Created to a brief that called for autonomous function for extended periods at sea, superyacht SAMAYA epitomises the purpose of an explorer yacht and will head into uncharted regions with the goal of enabling scientists and the media to draw attention to rare and exotic species and the critical environments that they inhabit.

The dedicated dive centre in the aft of MY SAMAYA

The dedicated dive centre in the aft of MY SAMAYA

Among her facilities is a dedicated dive room in the stern that features a teal coloured floor, a metal and wood ceiling and plenty of space for a nitrox-enriched air system and benches and shelves placed for efficient operations.

To reach dive spots surrounded by reefs or mangroves that SAMAYA cannot enter, there are 2 tenders of 8.8m and 7.2m respectively. These will be stored in a main deck tender garage and launched through large side doors.
To aid in recovery from a dive, the main deck aft features a flat-bottomed plunge pool that can be heated to aid in the body’s recovery from cold-water dives. The interiors can also be heated up to 30°C instead of the usual 25°C for the same reason.

The living spaces are styled by Redman Whiteley Dixon with influences from multiple cultures that hold a fondness for the owner, including an ethnic lounge on the bridge deck that also acts as a media room for playing recently recorded dives. The guest suites were designed for and by the owner’s children and boast bespoke furnishings and individualised colour schemes.

Feadship motor yacht SAMAYA - Mast

The sundeck has been designed to provide a large platform for receiving large numbers of guests and the extensive outdoor space is crowned with two resting beds placed against the mast arch. With their own ventilation system, this resting spot can be closed off from the rest of the world by a curtain to create a quiet alcove after an underwater adventure.

Completed in less than three years, superyacht SAMAYA represents the strong work ethic and technical capabilities of a world-renowned luxury yacht builder. Feadship director Bas Nederpelt remembers meeting with the client to discuss the brief:

“After joining us at the 2014 [Monaco Yacht Show], the client came straight to the Netherlands with Joshua Lee from Lee Marine to see our facilities on the Sunday after the event and discuss a high-speed motor yacht with a large open sun deck.

“They then spent Monday and Tuesday with the in-house design and naval architect team at Feadship De Voogt translating the client’s fascinating ideas into the initial design. After several design iterations a Letter of Intent was signed on the Tuesday evening.”

SAMAYA’s owner was closely involved with each stage of production, and took part in monthly meetings that lasted several days to produce a superyacht closely matched to the requirements of the owner and the family.

Similar to a conch shell, SAMAYA has a pale white primary coating with a pink hue that is most noticeable at sunrise and sunset. A stripe of teal marks her waterline and the colour is linked to the memory of a rare blue-green fish the owner once came into contact with while diving. The silhouette of a back-lit manta ray completes the maritime theme and reaffirms the owner’s commitment to conservation.

Expedition yacht SAMAYA - Exterior

Expedition yacht SAMAYA – Exterior

The maritime theme continues with the flowing exterior hull shape and a giant back-lit manta ray symbol on fashion plates which reflects the owner’s commitment to conserving this endangered species.

“The owner shared stories about diving adventures as we studied shapes together to discover what it is that makes these underwater creatures so fascinating,” Feadship De Voogt designer Jan Schaffers explains. “Our conclusions were included in the design. A good example is the gentle yet powerful muscular shape of the side bulwarks, which echo the pronounced slender muscles seen on a bull shark.”

Superyacht SEMAYA is expected to be seen cruising in Asia and the South Pacific, where the owner often resides: Look out for her this winter season.

The exterior is designed by Stefano Righini while the internal design was completed by Redman Whiteley Dixon. Of the three layout versions offered by Benetti to Fast 125 owners – Land, Air and Sea – the Air configuration is the most contemporary and was used for luxury yacht LEJOS 3, placing facilities across 4 decks.

Accommodation includes an Owner’s suite and four VIP staterooms. The main deck will contain a main salon and formal dining area and an additional lounge is available on the upper deck, where the bow also holds a large custom swimming pool.

A smaller swimming pool is available on the sun deck, which is designed entirely for the entertainment of guests.

One of the main draws for Benetti 125 owners is the Azipiull propulsion system that Benetti designed in conjunction with Rolls Royce, providing excellent performance in handling and weight reduction. Along with other technical innovations, most notably the Displacement to Planing® (D2P) hull, which allows the yacht to switch between modes for maximum comfort at low and high speeds respectively, the Benetti Fast 125 range is proving an attractive proposition for luxury yacht owners.

Luxury yacht LEJOS 3 will cruise the Mediterranean this summer season and is likely to attract attention on social media.

Benetti Fast 125′ line superyachts Skyler and Constance Joy delivered

Benetti Fast 125 (BF102) – MY Constance Joy. Photo credit Benetti

Following in the footsteps of the first Fast 125′, IRON MAN, both recent deliveries are equipped with a Rolls Royce designed new generation propulsion system created specifically for the series. Using a carbon fibre steerable thruster, the reduced weight results in a quieter cruising experience with reduced vibrations and improved performance while docking and man.

Both superyachts also employ the Displacement to Planing (D2P) hull form that uses a wave-piercer bow for low fuel consumption at low speeds while in displacement mode and efficient usage in planning mode at high speeds.

Stefano Righini designed the exterior for a streamlined appearance, most notably by merging windows to create horizontal lines. M/Y CONSTANCE JOY also has a distinctive crimson hull, making her an unmissable sight at her future charter grounds.

Redman Whiteley Dixon created the interiors of both motor yachts based on one of three design options provided for owners of the Fast 125′ line: Air, Land and Sea. Luxury yacht SKYLER uses the Air configuration, which is the most contemporary of the available designs.

Luxury yacht SKYLER will be available for charter in the Mediterranean from the 9th of July. Find out more information about her interior and facilities here, or contact CharterWorld to make a booking aboard this brand new luxury yacht.
