Raymarine’s new hand-held thermal scopes

November 04, 2011

The marine electronics leader, Raymarine presents its new hand-held TH24 and TH32 Thermal Marine Scopes, which bring boaties the possibility to see safely in the dark, wherever they are on board.

The new Raymarine TH24 and TH32 Thermal Marine Scopes use the same proven thermal imaging technology as Raymarine’s premium T Series fixed mount cameras. However, they are smaller, portable and more affordable and can be used anywhere from the bow to the stern or even taken onto a tender or PWC.

“This makes then an incredible safety aid,” says Cameron Burch, Raymarine product manager at New Zealand distributor Lusty and Blundell Ltd. “Because these thermal scopes use heat rather than light to ‘see’, they can pick out rocks, buoys, floating debris and other hazards, even in complete darkness.

“More importantly, they can quickly help find someone in the water, a real bonus when just a few minutes can make the difference between life and death.”

The new Raymarine thermal scopes are very easy to use and weigh just 340 grams. However, they are also very rugged and waterproof to IP-67 standard and come with a choice of resolution: 240×180 or 320×240.

The TH24 also has a freeze frame feature, while there is a two-times digital zoom on the TH32.

Raymarine’s new thermal scopes are available nationwide through Lusty and Blundell’s network of leading marine dealers.

When selecting winning products the BWI recognizes products for innovative distinction, benefits to the marine industry, practicality and benefits to consumer, and overall cost effectiveness.

“This compact navigation solution brings multiple features, including built-in   Wi-Fi connectivity to a marine multifunction device. Where Apple iPad integration, pop culture and intuitive operation meets useful maritime technology,” said BWI Judge Alan Wendt.

In addition to built-in Wi-Fi integration with iPads and iPhones, the e7 is equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology. Bluetooth connectivity lets boaters control and reconfigure the e7 with the optional RCU-3 wheel-mounted or handheld remote control unit. The RCU-3 remote can also be used to control the audio playback on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod remotely so that these devices can be stowed safely out of the elements.

“Raymarine is honored to win this prestigious award,” said Jim Jones, Director of Southeastern Sales for Raymarine. “With the e7, Raymarine is very excited to integrate navigation and wireless technologies for boaters. Mobile computing has changed our everyday lives by providing us with anywhere access to information and now the e7 lets boaters access charts, sonar, radar and thermal night vision from anywhere on board.”

The affordable e7 multifunction display offers options for radar, AIS, marine weather, and thermal night vision. The e7 is also available with a built in high definition digital sonar, making the e7 a highly affordable yet powerful chartplotter/fishfinder combo.

The e7 is remarkably easy to use, with Raymarine’s HybridTouch™ technology allowing boaters to choose touchscreen or keypad control, and the new LightHouse user interface, which makes customizing the MFD layout and display as easy as dragging and dropping on-screen elements where the user wants them.

Oyster Marine signs preferred supplier agreement with Raymarine for Oyster Yachts

Nick Creed, Commercial Director at Oyster Marine said the preferred supplier agreement will enable both organisations’ product development teams to work together to produce the electronics, navigation, communication and safety equipment systems, specified by discerning owners of Oyster Marine’s sophisticated and complex yachts.

Oyster Marine has historically had a close relationship with Raymarine, with many of its custom built yachts specified with Raymarine products on board.  The agreement means that Oyster Marine’s staff and build yards will benefit from Raymarine’s direct and formal approach to product training and installation offered to its preferred suppliers, and every Oyster yacht will be designed to have Raymarine products listed as part of its standard specification.

Each yacht will start with a sophisticated suite of Raymarine products, and owners can easily extend and enhance this, thanks to Raymarine’s easy integration, interface and extensive product range.  Oyster Marine stated that Raymarine’s thermal imaging cameras, for example, are becoming much more prevalent and sought after by Oyster owners as an integrated safety feature.

Another key advantage of working with Raymarine, says Creed, is the company’s global support network.  “Oyster Yachts operate in some of the harshest environments in all corners of the globe, and in the majority of instances, when needed, Raymarine is there,” he said.

Andy Davies, Raymarine UK and Ireland Sales Manager, says, “We are delighted to have signed this agreement with Oyster Marine.  Our product range offers the ultimate in sophisticated navigation, communication, on board entertainment and safety systems, while remaining easy to use and quick to understand.  We already have an excellent working relationship with Oyster Marine thanks to the technical advice, support, service and warranty we offer.”

Sunseeker selects Raymarine products for standard fit on motor yacht range

October 27, 2010

Sunseeker International has announced that Raymarine products will be fitted as standard on Sunseeker’s range – from the Superhawk 43 Portofino 47 through the Portofino, Manhattan, Predator, and Superhawk Yacht models – up to the 30 Metre Yacht. Breadth of product range, global service and support, and product development cited as key decision-making factors.

Previously offered as a customer option, this agreement sees Raymarine’s C Series Widescreen, E Series Widescreen HybridTouch™, HD Digital Radar, instruments, autopilots and VHF radios now fitted as standard on new boat builds.   Sunseeker customers have the choice to select their preferred electronics suite from the Raymarine range, and can elect to upgrade and personalise as required. A typical upgrade would be Raymarine’s new T Series range of thermal imaging cameras, which have already been specified for a Sunseeker 88 Yacht currently in build.

One of the key reasons for selecting Raymarine, says Sunseeker, was the breadth of product range, offering everything from onboard safety, entertainment, electronics, navigation and communication products – all of which are fully integrated.  In addition, Raymarine’s comprehensive systems enable owners to personalise their boats, choosing their own configurations and upgrades as required.  Exemplary customer service and worldwide dealer, support and service facilities were also required to fully satisfy the high standards required by both Sunseeker and its customers.

Nick Lean, Technical Specification Manager of Sunseeker said, “We are delighted to be able to offer Raymarine as a standard fit.  Over the years Raymarine has proved to be the most popular upgrade with our dealers worldwide and this is down to their superb local service and the fact that Raymarine offers a fully integrated package that is simple to use.”

Sunseeker International sees the light with Raymarine’s thermal night vision cameras

October 07, 2010

Just three days after the first official UK viewing of Raymarine’s new T Series Thermal Night Vision Cameras, world-leading yacht manufacturer Sunseeker International placed an order for the top-of-the-range T450 to be fitted onto a Sunseeker 88 Yacht currently in build.

Designed to help facilitate safe navigation in total darkness, the new T Series uses thermal imaging technology, developed by Raymarine’s parent company FLIR, which is used extensively in commercial and military applications.   The launch of the new T Series at Southampton demonstrated the first integration of this technology with Raymarine’s E and G Series multi-function displays.

Andy Davies, UK Sales Manager at Raymarine said the Sunseeker 88 Yacht would be fitted out with the T450 thermal night vision camera positioned on the coach roof and linked into four E Series Widescreen displays.  This layout enables full use of the E Series touch screen controls at both helm positions on board, enabling users to easily switch or combine views from chartplotter, radar and thermal imaging.

Chris Warde, from Sunseeker’s Yacht Division, said, “We are delighted that Raymarine are now able to offer thermal imaging cameras as a fully integrated part of their product line-up, something that our clients who look to use the same brand across the whole dash will see as a real benefit.”

Raymarine’s T Series night vision cameras were one of the highlights at the Southampton Boat Show.  The new technology was shown in the most impressive way – on an eye-catching powered simulator of a Sunseeker Predator 84 console.  Visitors could see how the T450, Raymarine’s top-of-the-range thermal imaging camera, works by sensing heat.

This is emitted by all objects – even icebergs – and enables a clear image of hazards and obstructions, such as buoys, rocks, buildings and landscape features.

The clarity of vision, even in pitch darkness, shows details such as the number of people on an approaching vessel, or more importantly, enables fast location of a person or object in the water.

By integrating the T Series into Raymarine’s multi function displays, users can directly control the night vision cameras using the HybridTouch™ interface for 360º pan, 90º tilt and to zoom the camera.  This not only makes T Series very easy to operate, but also enables users to see thermal imaging alongside their chartplotter, fishfinder and radar navigation displays.  Designed to withstand the harsh marine environment, the T Series cameras are compact, with rigged marine-grade enclosures

Raymarine at the PSP Southampton Boat Show

August 03, 2010

Raymarine will be displaying its full range of marine electronic products on Stand G088 at the PSP Southampton International Boat Show this September from 10th -19th.

Raymarine’s latest range of multifunction displays include the highly popular E Series Widescreen, which has received worldwide approval for design, HybridTouch technology and easy-to-use interface. Also on show will be the C Series Widescreen, offering everything consumers have come to love about Raymarine chartplotters in a widescreen format. Raymarine’s smallest Chartplotter, the A Series is now available as a chartplotter and chartplotter/fishfinder combination in the A50, A57 and A70. For larger boats the G Series and Glass Bridge System offer large displays and Raymarine’s most powerful processors to deliver the best performance possible.

Raymarine HD digital radar

Digital radar technology now makes it even easier to use and see details at a glance with colour screens, and Raymarine has both Digital Radomes and HD Digital Radomes, which are designed for boats that need a radar to run on minimal power and which have limited mounting space. Raymarine’s range of open array radars are available in HD Digital Radar and Super HD Digital Radar, offering enhanced performance and improved range for larger yachts.

The ST70 Plus is Raymarine‘s top of the range instrument and pilot display system.  Featuring large, high visibility LCD images, ST70 Plus offers a new way of displaying and managing data, and is the perfect partner for Raymarine’s multifunction display systems.  The ST70 Plus can be configured as an instrument or autopilot display.

Managed via a dedicated remote control keypad, the 6.5 inch (164 mm) screen is fully customisable with multiple options for screen set up, colour palette and offers remarkable quality day and night viewing.

The AIS500 and AIS250 will both be on display at the show.  The AIS500 transceiver allows users to both transmit to, and receive, AIS data to and from vessels in the area, as well as to shore-based traffic centres. The AIS250 receiver allows users to see the position of other vessels in the area, as well as full vessel information. The receiver is able to monitor both Class A and B transmissions at the same time over VHF frequencies.

Raymarine’s range of VHF communication products mean that no matter where you venture you will never be out of reach. If safety products are needed Raymarine’s Cam 50 and Cam100 cameras provide clear visuals of vital areas such as the bow, aft, engine room, or swim platforms.  The images can be displayed anywhere on the boat, using Raymarine’s multifunction displays.  The Raymarine Lifetag Man Overboard System enables quick location and recovery in a man overboard situation, meaning that on a yacht or high speed powerboat, anyone falling overboard will be quickly noticed, located and recovered.

Anyone wanting to learn more about the latest on board technology will be pleased to know Raymarine can offer help and advice.  The company will be launching its new series of training courses for electronic navigation at the show.  The courses, organised by Raymarine and held across the UK, have proved extremely popular and have led to customer requests for further dates and locations to be organised.  Full details of the courses planned for 2010/2011 will be available at Southampton Boat Show.
