Riviera Festival of Boating 2013 to feature seven new educational events

May 10, 2013

To take place at Coomera on Queensland’s Gold Coast from May 23 to 26, the 2013 Riviera Festival of Boating will boast seven new educational events, which have been added to the program since the Festival registration website went live in March.

As part of the Festival of Boating Riviera will stage a $15 million under cover red carpet boat show at their Coomera manufacturing facility

One of these is an exciting new workshop designed to make skippering a small boat child’s play. It is expected to be hugely entertaining and educational for pint sized captains.

Riviera has been inundated with registrations and enquiries as the date of May 17 when registrations officially close rapidly approaches. The original program of 76 educational and social events has prompted the addition of several new workshops, including the Riv Kidz Skipper Program, which now brings the total to 83 individual events.

The new events offered in the expanded educational program include, anchoring, line work, rafting and mooring; onboard entertainment; understanding gyro stabilisers, electrical power systems; understanding electrical accessories, understanding marine insurance, and a special children’s only Riv Kidz Skipper training program.  Limited places are available at all workshops and registration via the Festival of Boating website is essential.

Riviera’s Chairman Rodney Longhurst said boating was very much a family affair and the Riviera Festival of Boating encouraged all Riviera and aspiring power boat owners to become more confident on the water.

“Our educational events have proved extremely popular with our owners who are always keen to learn more about their boats and onboard systems,” Mr Longhurst said.

“The women’s and men’s skipper programs are usually the first to book out.  There has been a growing demand to introduce the Riv Kidz Skipper Program for children aged under 16 years and we are proud to have nautical trainer Karla Herbert-Evans on board at this year’s Riviera Festival of Boating.”

Ms Herbert-Evans said most parents were keen to have their children learn the skills and knowledge to handle their tenders and smaller vessels.

“Essentially, it is the same as the big boats, just a smaller version,” Ms Herbert-Evans said.

“It is equally important for children to become familiar with their boats and know all the safety procedures and checks.

“The Riv Kidz Skipper Workshop covers the same topics as the women’s and men’s programs but just on a smaller scale and with simplified terms to make it engaging and enjoyable for the younger members of the Riviera Family.”

The Riv Kidz Skipper Program will cover pre-departure boat checks, bungs, fuel, oil, battery/spark and water; safety equipment checks; tender limits; understanding boat and crew limitations; knots line and hitches; check the conditions; let someone know before you go; start, stop, safety, steering, throttle control, trim control and balance; embarking and disembarking; always keep a good look out; manoeuvring, berthing, anchoring; signage and rules; boat maintenance and cleaning.

There are two Riv Kidz Skipper Workshops held on the weekend of the four day Festival so people are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment.  Visit rivieraaustralia.com/festival for all the latest Festival news and registration forms.

Mr Longhurst said the other programs would give power boat owners the opportunity to trial first-hand the amazing gyro stabiliser technology on board a Riviera 51 Enclosed Flybridge, learn the correct anchoring and line work techniques, explore the latest on board entertainment systems, electrical power systems and accessories, and finally a greater understanding of marine insurance.

“These new workshops are designed to give power boat owners and enthusiasts the knowledge and experience to become confident boat owners,” Mr Longhurst said.

“We encourage our Riviera owners to learn more about their boats and onboard systems to ensure they are getting the best performance and achieving the ultimate enjoyable boating experience.”

Riviera offers 15 different models from 36 to 75 feet across three model series Flybridge, Sport Yacht and the new SUV collection.

In 2012 Riviera celebrated the launch of its 5000th boat, the 445 SUV, a significant achievement in the company’s rich 32-year history.

Riviera also offers the bespoke Motor Yacht line, Belize Motoryachts.  Inspired by classic luxury details and timeless style, Belize Motoryachts has recently released the new 52 foot Sedan and Daybridge models.

Exhibitors getting in early to secure their place at Gold Coast International Marine Expo 2013

May 09, 2013

Exhibitors are registering early to get their place at the third annual Gold Coast International Marine Expo. The event will take place at the Gold Coast Marine Precinct in Coomera, from November 1 to 3, 2013.

This year organisers are expecting over 500 boats will be on display at the Gold Coast International Marine Expo

The not-for-profit Expo has been described as ‘breathing life back into the marine industry’, which was impacted by the GFC. It has now become one of the major boating attractions on the Australian boat show calendar and is expected to double in size over the next five years.

Gold Coast International Marine Expo spokesman Stephen Milne said attendance at last year’s Expo defied industry trends with a 24 per cent increase on the first year’s attendance.

Hundreds of the world's best boating brands were on show over a 2 5km display circuit

“The three day Expo attracted a total of 20,752 people through the gates from around Australia and New Zealand as counted independently by the Rotary Club of Coomera River, which is a tremendous achievement for such a young event,” Mr Milne said.

“Exhibitor numbers reached 188 and featured 40 new exhibitors at last year’s event. There was also a significant increase in the number of boats on display on both the land and in the water.”

In 2012, there were more than 500 boats on display including 120 plus boats in the on water display.

Last year more than 300 boating brands were on display at the Expo

The Expo is a partnership between Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard, Riviera, Quintrex, International Paints, and Clipper Motor Yachts who help stage this annual not-for-profit community and family focused event, which will once again take visitors behind the scenes of the marine industry with hundreds of exhibits from the world’s best boating brands displayed over a 2.5 kilometre display circuit.

The brainchild of Queensland’s boating industry leaders, the third annual Gold Coast International Marine Expo is expected to be bigger and better than the first two events, which attracted 300 plus brands in 2012.

Mr Milne said the strong exhibitor interest for 2013 thus far was a positive indicator of things to come.

“The Gold Coast International Marine Expo has just released its prospectus and I encourage exhibitors to secure their bookings early to ensure they receive their desired display location and size,” he said.

“Given the early demand for increased display sizes from last year’s exhibitors, we have extended considerably our volume of display space. This is one of the great attributes of our facilities here at Coomera, we can literally double or triple our displays if required.

“We will offer all our 2012 exhibitors the first right of refusal of their same position and display space as a mark of thanks for their belief and support in our vision.”

Access to the event via free entry and free on site parking also help make the Expo a major attraction for boating enthusiasts from across the nation.

SCIBS to launch spectacular 25th anniversary event in May

April 09, 2013

Organisers of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) have prepared plans for an amazing event this year to celebrate a quarter of a century since the event’s inception. The 25th annual SCIBS, taking place from May 23 to 26, will feature a raft of international boating brands and marine products, as well as an exciting entertainment line-up.

SCIBS

SCIBS government, industry and international relations manager Barry Jenkins, who has worked on the Boat Show for each of its 25 years, said the upcoming show would be a celebration of its evolution into an internationally-renowned event for the marine industry.

“This is a great achievement for SCIBS and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic show for visitors and those in the boating industry to enjoy,” he said.

“Many of the exhibitors who came to the boat show in its inaugural year will return in 2013 to celebrate this milestone.

“There will also be a strong turnout of first time exhibitors which will make for a great mix of stalwarts and fresh faces.”

Mr Jenkins said this year promised an exciting line-up of boating brands, with tinnies to superyachts and everything in between on show.

In its first Queensland appearance, Horizon Motor Yachts will showcase its 110 foot P110 Tri Deck yacht, while local manufacturer and long-time SCIBS supporter Maritimo will bring a fleet of its finest superyachts for a spectacular on-water display.

This year’s entertainment offering will add to the excitement, with the Channel 7 stage returning with a host of daily live music acts including various local and national artists as well as roving musicians entertaining visitors throughout the Marine Village.

Daily cooking demonstrations, stand-up paddle boarding displays and crowd favourite JetLev’s water-powered jetpack performances are also among the festivities planned.

Marine industry icon and Maritimo founder Bill Barry-Cotter said reaching 25 years spoke volumes for the popularity and success of the Boat Show.

“I have personally been involved in the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show since its inception and it has a reputation nationally and internationally as one of the best on-water boat shows in existence,” he said.

Mr Barry-Cotter said Maritimo was celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and would mark the occasion by hosting one of the largest displays at SCIBS.

“We look forward to displaying a number of exciting new and recently released models to the boating public,” he said.

“Our recently released M58 cruising motor yacht and the new M50 will be displayed at SCIBS for the first time and will showcase perfectly the level of quality, style, design and luxury that we as a leading Australian manufacturer are able to achieve.”

Mulpha Sanctuary Cove executive general manager Keith Allardice said the Boat Show’s success reflected the tireless efforts of its team and the ongoing support of exhibitors and visitors.

He said more than 260 exhibitors had already signed up to participate in this year’s SCIBS and the team was expecting strong visitor numbers over the four day event.

“Exhibitor bookings are still coming through so there will be a great variety of boating and lifestyle displays on offer for the whole family,” he said.

Mr Allardice said he was confident that SCIBS would continue to flourish well into the future and shine the spotlight on Sanctuary Cove and its unique attributes and lifestyle benefits.

Those making their ticket purchase online before May 22, 2013 automatically go in the draw to win a three-night luxury escape to spectacular Hayman Island Resort including breakfast daily, transfers and return economy airfares valued at $5500.

Sanctuary Cove Boat Show 2013: Marine industry’s must-attend Queensland event

March 04, 2013

The upcoming Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show will cement its position as the marine industry’s must-attend Queensland event by providing its strongest consumer as well as commercial mix in 25 years.

Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2010

Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2010

Mulpha Sanctuary Cove sales, sponsorship and events manager Johan Hasser said this year’s event would have plenty to offer marine industry players and boating enthusiasts alike.

“Our event this year really underscores that SCIBS is the place where the marine industry does business,” he said.

“We have a diverse and extensive range of exhibitors from across Australia and overseas to ensure this is the place where industry players rub shoulders.

“At the same time we have an unprecedented variety of activities, events and experiences for boaties and their families.

“We are bringing the industry and their public together while providing both with the experiences and opportunities they are looking for.”

This year will see Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) and Superyacht Australia unveil an innovative opportunity for their members to “test the waters” of exhibiting their business.

The AIMEX and Superyacht Australia HUB pavilion will have an area of small pod-style booths for members who would otherwise just attend and walk the show. It will be bordered by key exhibitors creating a one stop shop for visitors and business connections.

Regular exhibitor Dylan Lopez, of Coomera-based Sirocco Marine North, said SCIBS was the mecca for Queensland’s marine fraternity.

“SCIBS epitomises the large luxury boat lifestyle and it is where the key players gather,” he said.

“That is the sector my business services, so I need to be here to connect with them.”

Mr Lopez said Sanctuary Cove provided the best venue for a boat show in Australia.

“From an exhibitor’s point of view, the location is amazing with the Marine Village, InterContinental Hotel and people living in the environment,” he said.

“The unique atmosphere of SCIBS is what differentiates it from other shows across Australia.”

Long-time exhibitor Scott Wilson, of Molendinar-based Swift Marine, said SCIBS was the best boat show from the perspectives of sales and enjoyment.

“We need to go to a show at least once a year to get our product out there and this is the one we have chosen,” he said.

“SCIBS always has an enjoyable carnival atmosphere and it a great location.

“If you have to spend time at work as an exhibitor it might as well be somewhere that is pleasant and entertaining that sets people – including exhibitors – up for a great experience.”

Mr Wilson – who has exhibited most years since the show’s 1989 inception – said the event provided sustained economic benefits to his business which manufactures rigid inflatable craft.

“We do quite a few sales at the show but it also sets us up for the rest of the year because we have people coming back to us 8 to 12 months later,” he said.

The 2013 Boat Show will showcase a raft of international boating brands, products and technologies on display alongside the superb backdrop of the award-winning Sanctuary Cove marina and The Marine Village.

The $A2 billion Sanctuary Cove, located on the northern Gold Coast, is Australia’s leading and most successful master-planned community.

Featuring two 18 hole championship golf courses, a 300 berth marina, five-star InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, Country Club including full fitness centre, tennis courts and 25m swimming pool, Sanctuary Cove is also home to some of the most diverse waterfront, golf course fronting or hilltop residential house and land options on the Gold Coast.

At the heart of the community is the Marine Village – Sanctuary Cove’s very own waterfront commercial, retail and dining precinct, with more than 80 tenancies.

Sanctuary Cove was acquired by current owners Mulpha Sanctuary Cove (Developments) Pty Limited in 2002. MSCD is an arm of Mulpha Australia Limited, which is a subsidiary of Malaysian listed Mulpha International BHD.

For the next three days, the 2nd edition of this popular exhibition will host seven superyachts measuring over 85 feet in length.

The superyachts include the 88 foot E88 Skylounge yacht and 110 foot P110 Tri-Deck superyacht from Horizon Motor Yachts, a 100 foot luxury charter boat from Safari Charters, an 82 foot French built yacht and an Italian built 110 foot motor yacht from Geoff Lovett International, and a 90 foot and 92 foot luxury superyacht from Leigh-Smith Cruiser Sales.

Horizon Motor Yachts Australia director, Russell Wright, said the P110 Tri-Deck yacht valued at $9.9 million had just arrived in Australia and would make her Queensland debut at the Gold Coast International Marine Expo.

“This is the biggest new Horizon stock boat that we have ever brought into Australia and I think people will be impressed with her stunning interior, which features granite and marble bathrooms, and an outdoor spa on the top deck,” Mr Wright said.

“The 2012 Gold Coast International Marine Expo will have the largest display of superyachts in excess of 85 feet in any one area, and Horizon Motor Yachts Australia is extremely proud to be a part of this growing annual event.”

Peter Lovett from Geoff Lovett International said they looked forward to showcasing the Italian built 110 foot Code Cassa world cruiser, Casa Bella, and the French built 82 foot Dynamique, The Arrow’.

“The Coda Cassa is a world cruiser and an excellent, traditional, sea worthy vessel.  The Dynamique is very similar to a motor yacht in that she has two engines, which is uncommon in most yachts, and she also has a retractable keel,” Mr Lovett said.

“The Expo is a great show and it is certainly the way of the future. Last year we had six boats on display, this year we will have eight and it is pleasing to see the high number of superyachts that will be on display this year.

“The Expo is the perfect platform to display boats of all sizes and to introduce people to the fun of boating. Geoff Lovett International has operated out of Marina Mirage for the past 25 years and we get a great deal of satisfaction from seeing our customers grow with their boats.  They may start off with a 25 foot vessel and move through to a 45 foot and then a 60 foot as their family grows and their boating enjoyment grows.”

Gold Coast International Marine Expo president, Stephen Milne, said there would be more than 120 boats at the impressive on-water display and hundreds at the on land displays.

“This year we have a significant number of superyachts at the Expo, which is a great testament to the size and calibre of the event,” he said.

“We are extremely proud of the Expo’s success in such a short time and thank our loyal supporters, including Horizon Motor Yachts Australia and Geoff Lovett International who are founding exhibitors.”

The second annual Gold Coast International Marine Expo will be held on November 2, 3 and 4 from 9am to 5pm with free entry and free parking.  The not-for-profit, family event run by the Gold Coast marine industry features an exciting line-up of entertainment, workshops, seminars, factory tours and interactive displays.  There will be more than 200 leading marine brands displayed over a 2.5 kilometre circuit and hundreds of boats on display from kayaks to superyachts and everything in between.
