Singapore Yacht Show 2013 now officially open

April 18, 2013

Being attended by more than double the number of exhibitors in comparison to last year, the third annual Singapore Yacht Show is now officially open, hosting plenty of amazing brands as well as luxury yachts, making their Asia premiere at the show.

Singapore Yacht Show 2013

Managing director of Singapore Yacht Events Andy Treadwell, said he was proud the event was achieving what it was asked to deliver at the beginning of the venture, “a yachting and boating event with all the vibrancy, quality and reputation of the world’s best marine shows”.

“We’ve more than doubled our on-water display again this year, with a world-class line-up of vessels, encompassing some incredible glamorous superyachts with all the on-board toys and tenders a billionaire could want, but also sporty runabouts, tenders and sailboats perfect for the first time buyer. There really is something for everyone,” he said.

That list includes; the magnificent 57.5m S/Y Twizzle, making her yacht show debut at the show, Kingship’s motoryacht Star, the beautiful classic charter yacht Shamoun, motor yacht Sapphire and the 59.3m superyacht I-Dynasty.

Loyal and new exhibitors include; Palmer Johnson, Simpson Marine, Sunseeker, SG Boating, Luxury Yachts, Princess – exhibiting eight beautiful boats, La Marca Marine, Grand Banks, YPI, Burgess, Northrop and Johnson, Premium Nautical, the hugely innovative Wider Yachts and many more.

Complementing the yachting lifestyle on display, the event is also showcasing luxury cars, fabulous property and fine art. Celebrity DJ Miles Slater from a world-famous nightclub Boujis in Hong Kong and London is arriving to wow the crowds this weekend, and live fashion shows from international resort-wear brands will run on Saturday afternoon.

With so much going on every day – industry conferences, a sumptuous gala dinner tonight at the W Singapore – Sentosa Cove and plenty of parties – the Singapore Yacht Show 2013 is shaping up to be the region’s premier lifestyle event this year. “That some of the world’s biggest brands now see our event as the ideal platform to market to Asia’s growing wealthy classes, is testament to the importance of this show to the international yachting industry,” Mr Treadwell said.

In his opening address to media and VIP guests at ONE°15 Marina Club this afternoon, Mr Treadwell reiterated the three main objectives of Singapore Yacht Show. Firstly, to find new business in a new market for the worldwide yachting and boating industry. Secondly, to introduce a whole new audience of increasingly wealthy people from right around Asia to the fun, the sport and the exhilaration of the yachting lifestyle.

Thirdly, the show aims to drive the significant economic impact that a growing yacht tourism and leisure marine industry will bring to Singapore and all of South East Asia, if it is properly supported, he said.

“In terms of the significance of the yacht show, and the quality of its exhibitors this year, there is little doubt that the Singapore Yacht Show is playing a very significant part in positioning Singapore as the South East Asia business hub for the international yachting and boating industry,” Mr Treadwell said.

Arthur Tay, chairman of ONE°15 Marina Club spoke of Singapore Yacht Show’s potential to become one of the city state’s most important and strategic events, alongside the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix.

“Yacht shows of this calibre are vital to the continued development of Singapore as the regional hub for luxury yachting and a major destination for the very top end of business and leisure tourism. Through the Singapore Yacht Show’s promotions and marketing, the world’s most notable private vessels are exposed to the infrastructure and services Singapore has to offer. This in turn supports the marinas, brokers, service providers and individual employers of Singapore’s luxury marine industry,” Mr Tay said.

Guest of honour, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, said he believes South East Asia has the makings of a great yachting industry, naming the region’s great weather, beautiful beaches and islands just some of the drawcards.

Mr Treadwell said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay’s recent investment in Wider Yachts demonstrated, “a true representative of the willingness of business leaders in the region to contribute to the development of the nascent yachting industry in Asia”.

Singapore Yacht Show is open to the public until 6pm today, and from 2pm until 8pm from Friday April 19 to Sunday April 21. Entry is $50.

Corum is the Official Timepiece with classic nautical chronometers on display. “Priceless” moments can be savoured with MasterCard, who host Boat Asia’s VIP Island Suite and will be tantalizing members’ palates with a world-class gastronomic spread from Gaggenau in conjunction with renowned star chef Ryan Clift, culinary impressario from Singapore’s renowned, award-winning Tippling Club.

McLaren Automotive is this year’s Presenting Sponsor of Boat Asia. Land Rover, meanwhile, makes an appearance as Official Car of the boat show. For those prefering to take things at a slower pace there is the Mumm Champagne Floating Bar, another new attraction this year, as well as waterfront fashion shows by Sophie Martine of Paris. Those wishing to capture their precious Boat Asia moments for posterity should watch out for premium camera manufacturer Leica as well as luxury mobile phone maker Vertu. Paul and Shark returns as Official Yachting Wear sponsor.

Officially launched at the Cannes Boat Show in September last year, Boat Asia 2013 has grown and played a central role in developing the boating industry in Singapore and the region, with a firm commitment to promoting the business of yacht dealers and their brands, as well as marinas. Exhibitors at Boat Asia 2012, which last year attracted a crowd of 12,000 visitors and over 100 exhibits from the Asia-Pacific, Europe, US, Middle East, and China, routinely transact business worth in the tens of millions of dollars.

Regardless of one’s taste or pleasure in yachts, whether he is a long time boating afficionado or a new enthusiast exploring new water sports hobbies, there’s something for everyone this year at Boat Asia 2013.

Princess Yachts’ New Superyacht Facility Gets Government Seal of Approval

During his visit the Business Secretary confirmed that Princess Yachts can now begin drawing down on the £4.6 million Government Regional Growth Fund (RGF) grant awarded in 2011. Princess won financial backing from the RGF for a major investment to create a world leading boat building facility at the company’s South Yard site. The investment has already created 290 jobs and helped safeguard a further 400.

Dr Cable said: “Growing businesses like Princess Yachts that are creating high tech, and highly skilled jobs are precisely the sort of companies that the government wants to support.

“Through the Regional Growth Fund, and more widely through our long term industrial strategy, government can give business the clarity and confidence to invest for the long term. That creates growth, and jobs for people here in the South West and all across the country.”

The South Yard site is being used to build Princess’s M Class yachts, a range of 100-foot plus vessels developed to meet the growing global demand for craft of this size. With the first of these craft having been launched to great acclaim the Company is confident of further growth in this market. Launched in January 2011, the debut M Class craft, the Princess 32M (example is motor yacht Antheya II), has gone on to win multiple awards and in 2012 Princess launched their flagship Princess 40M (examples is superyacht Imperial Princess), a 130-foot tri-deck yacht, which has already received an award for ‘Best Production Motor Yacht’ at the Asia Boating Awards and has received multiple awards nominations worldwide, the results of which will be announced in the coming months.

Chris Gates, Managing Director of Princess Yachts, said: “I am delighted that the Government has decided to back our investment in a new production facility to meet the global demand for larger vessels. This recognises the fantastic work being achieved by our company as it competes on a global stage from its Plymouth base”.

Oyster and Princess reveal their yacht line-up to be displayed at Palma Boat Show 2013

April 12, 2013

Set to raise the curtain on May 1, this year’s Palma International Boat Show is to start in less than three weeks. The world’s top yacht builders, Oyster and Princess, have revealed their line-up, to be showcased at this popular Palma‘s event. Princess Motor Yacht Sales will be exhibiting seven yacht models, while Oyster Marine will have its spectacular 100ft superyacht “Penelope” on show.

Oyster 100 superyacht Penelope

Oyster 100 superyacht Penelope

Jamie Collins, Director of Operations for Oyster Yachts in Mallorca, says, “Having Penelope in Palma gives the general public and the marine industry the first real opportunity to see an Oyster superyacht in the flesh. More a small ship than a large yacht, she is eye-catching, performance orientated and boasts generous internal volumes. Initial feedback on her, and predecessor hull number one Sarafin yacht, has been extremely positive and we hope to welcome onboard plenty of new faces in May.”

Indeed it could be an exciting week for the Oyster 100/02 sailing yacht Penelope. The Oyster flagship has also been nominated in the World Superyacht Awards – a platform for recognising the finest new superyacht builds delivered to their owners in the past 12 months. Results are announced in Istanbul on 4 May, let’s hope Oyster has something to celebrate on the penultimate day of the Palma International Boat Show. Expectations are high in the Oyster Marine camp – all the more poignant as 2013 signals the British manufacturer’s 40th anniversary year.

Jamie finishes, “We are very busy at the moment with 30 or more Oysters already in the waters around Palma, a figure that will double as we reach the season closer Oyster Mediterranean Regatta Palma during the first week of October. The Palma International Boat Show is a great introduction to Oyster for those who have never stepped onboard one of our yachts before and, close to our office at Marina Naviera Balear, we’ll have a further 12 brokerage yachts from 56ft to 72ft all together in one place for viewing.  We envisage plenty of visitors to the Island early May to enjoy the nautical festival atmosphere.”

Together with Oyster at the Boat Show will be Princess, a British boatbuilder with exciting news to report both on the Island and back in the UK. In Mallorca, Princess will be opening an additional office in Philippe Starck-designed Port Adriano on 4 May, their second in the southwest joining established premises in Puerto Portals. Meanwhile its superyacht yard in Devonport has just been earmarked for 4.6 million pounds of government funding and praised for creating a further 400 new jobs in Plymouth as it develops its 40 metre range.

Nigel James, Director of Princess Motor Yacht Sales on the Island, comments, “Our expectations are high for 2013, and justifiably so, as we are proud and confident of our products. Companies with the right product combined with the right price, quality and service will triumph in today’s market and we’re head and shoulders above the competition in this respect. The Palma International Boat Show has always tended to attract an intelligent crowd with a good understanding of the yachting world and we expect no different this year. We await the event with enthusiasm.”

Included in the seven-strong Princess line-up will be the spacious four-cabin flybridge 64 and little sister 60, as well as the agile and dynamic V57 and V42. Professional and dedicated Princess staff will be on hand throughout the Show to guide existing and prospective clients through the entire range and Princess experience.

Running from 1 to 5 May 2013, organisers of the Palma International Boat Show have overhauled the format into an activity-packed ‘nautical week’ with the Palma International Yachting Forum and Superyacht Brokerage and Charter Show running alongside.

During a two-day visit to the South West, Dr Cable confirmed that Princess Yachts could start drawing down its £4.6 million grant to help the company invest over £35 million in a new superyacht hall. This investment has already created 290 jobs and helped safeguard 400.

Business Secretary Vince Cable said: “Growing businesses like Princess Yachts that are creating high tech, and highly skilled jobs are precisely the sort of companies that the government wants to support.

“Through the Regional Growth Fund, and more widely through our long term industrial strategy, government can give business the clarity and confidence to invest for the long term. That creates growth, and jobs for people here in the South West and all across the country.”

Vince Cable has been leading development of the government’s industrial strategy which looks to the future and presents a long-term, whole of government approach to supporting British business, giving them the confidence they need to invest, hire staff and grow.

Singapore Yacht Show 2013 to feature huge choice of boats and yachts

April 10, 2013

Boasting some of the most spectacular and untouched coastlines in the world, Asia is rapidly growing in popularity as a boating destination. To take place at ONE°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove from April 18 – 21, the Singapore Yacht Show will host a number of expert exhibitors, who all provide a huge selection of brands as well as yacht types, to suit every style and budget.

Singapore Yacht Show 2012

Talk to the experts

Many of the show’s exhibitors are the exclusive Asia dealers for some of the world’s most popular boat brands. All experts in finding the perfect boat for customers, they are well placed to advise on any enquiries about the small boat market.

Hong Seh Marine is the Singapore dealer for brands including Cranchi, Viking Yachts and Riva. They will be presenting boats including the SIXTY4 HT hard top design; the 2013 flybridge 54 Fly model; and the Atlantique 40, all from the popular Cranchi range. Their Viking range allows offers huge choice, including sportsfishing and cruising yachts.

They will have an impressive fleet on display at the Show that includes a range of mid to large Azimut models, catamarans from the industry-leading builder Lagoon, two of the latest Beneteau sailing models and the Beneteau Flyer 650 model.

Spoilt For Choice

There is plenty of choice on offer, no matter what you are looking for. For those considering sail over motor, Solaris Yachts build beautiful sailing yachts from 35ft to 100ft at their Italian yard. Designed for true lovers of the sea, they combine beautiful design, comfort and performance.

Malaysian-based yacht dealership Pen Marine represent Italian brand Wider, whose range includes their stylish Wider ’42, the perfect choice for a day boat and a stepping stone into yachting.

As well as their strong position in the superyacht market, Princess Yachts and Sunseeker both have very popular sub-30m ranges on offer, starting at 39ft. Princess Yachts will be using the show for the Asian debut of the P52 model, and their P56 will be the first delivered to Asia. Sunseeker will have a 19m model on display at the show, and will also be promoting their range, which includes performance cruisers ideal for coastal exploring and sports yachts.

At the bigger end of the market, exhibitors Long Range Marine are currently building a 24-metre Realship Expedition Vessel at their new facility in Thailand. The yacht presents a spacious and quality option for the more adventurous buyer.

Fun on the Water

Small watercraft, jet skis and tenders offer endless entertainment on the water. Official tender supplier of the Show is La Marca Marine, the exclusive dealer for the ZAR-Formenti line of RIBs. Their boats, which come in a wide range of models, feature a patented design which marries the advantages of the space and stability of a rigid hull boat with the high-performance and safety of a rigid inflatable boat (RIB).

Supratechnic will be returning to the Show, and represents brands including Williams Jet Tenders and Waverunner jet skis. Williams’ Turbojet models combine speed and comfort to provide fun on the water: a versatile option, they can be used as standalone boats, or as a support tender for a mother vessel.
