More About South Pacific Yacht Charters:

A yacht charter vacation in the South Pacific Islands (Tahiti, Tonga, Fiji, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu) was once a treasure experienced by only a dedicated few. The Pacific Islands and their people are unique in culture and tradition. The most obvious thing each island has in common is the islanders’ friendly and hospitable nature whereby visitors arriving on sailing charters, are treated as honoured guests. A superyacht charter vacation in Tahiti, French Polynesia, is the best way to explore the ‘jewel of the South Pacific’. It really is the most beautiful place in the world and the only way to completely appreciate the Islands of Tahiti, is by water. A crewed luxury yacht will provide you with a unique opportunity to explore the Tahitian Islands, which are otherwise, difficult to get around. Charter guests have been captured by the beauty and romance of Tahiti, time and time again. Tahiti is a French archipelago, which lies in the middle of the Pacific Ocean roughly between Australia and America, officially known as the Society Islands. Fiji is also a beautiful place for a yacht charter holiday. Imagine white sandy beaches, aquamarine water and swaying palms trees. Many areas of the Fijian Islands are inaccessible to tourism because of their remoteness, which gives yachts a real scope for adventure in these waters….read more about South Pacific Yacht Charters.

Efficiency

Philippe Briand, naval architect and designer of the Vitruvius® concept, was inspired by the streamlined principles of sailboat hulls, where the lines of design, volume distribution and the study of weights are optimized to attain the best efficiency.

The aluminium hull, follows the principles of the Briand Optimized Stretched (BOS®) Hull and is characterized by streamlined, limited waterline length and a straight and deep bow. The BOS® Hull, and two zero speed roll stabilisers endow the hull with exceptional cruising stability. Combined with the installed power, these features ensure long-term navigation in total safety and tranquillity. Motor yacht Exuma’s gross tonnage is under 500 tons, and displaces about 400 tons. She features a reduced draft of 2.3 metres that allows navigation in shallow waters.

Spaces aboard

Vitruvius superyacht Exuma, features unparalleled interior and exterior space design and organization. The successful study of
the proportions between hull and superstructure allowed for large spaces dedicated to ensuring privacy among guests onboard, equipment for exploration, stowage of materials. This was obtained by introducing double independent stairs and two walkways.

Exploration

Exuma motor yacht was designed with a strong aptitude for exploration in mind. Indeed, it allows a range of over 5,500 miles at a speed of 12 knots. This is attained due to the 75,000 litres of fuel and 17,000 litres of fresh water tankage. A particular characteristic of this yacht is the capability (thanks to 115 dedicated m2) of stowing large amounts of equipment and gear on board in order to be able to venture out into the most beautiful and remote areas of the world.

Inside the two fore lateral garages with gull-wing doors actuated by hydraulic pistons, Exuma MY houses a 16.4’ amphibious vehicle, completely customised with Iveco Campagnola mechanical components and frame, and a Hov Pod 12’ hovercraft.

Further, superyacht Exuma has additional space to host 2 tenders, measuring 21’ and 14’, 2 electric scooters, 2 Seabobs and 1 Sea-Doo RXT 250 jet ski. The yacht is also equipped with diving areas and equipment.

Exterior

The stylistic elements of the Vitruvius® project, motoryacht Exuma, are embodied in the optimal balance between straight and curved lines, together with the presence of large glass windows that confer high visibility and luminosity to every deck of the yacht. In particular, the large, double-curvature, bombé glass windows of the bridge deck offer a spectacular full-circle panorama. These windows distinguish the yacht’s lines and make them unique.

The use of titanium in all the external handrails combine extremely high reliability even in the most extreme conditions of use with perfect chromatic harmony with the yacht’s hull. On the superstructure, two ventilation grills integrated within the yacht’s line stand out as an aesthetic element, while the elegant mast for communication antennae, the navigation radars and the powerful searchlight is arranged on the superstructure roof.

Bridge deck

The bridge deck of the M/Y Exuma is characterized by large glass doors and the spacious side deck conceived to enjoy a full view of the surrounding panorama. This deck can be accessed either through the internal stair in the lobby or through the two external corridors. Besides the helm, the captain’s office and a pantry, the bridge deck features a spacious saloon with L-shaped sofa, a coffee table, armchairs and an entertainment area. The outdoor living concept embodied by this yacht is ensured by two comfortable chaise-lounges for sunbathing and a large, accessorized Jacuzzi with integrated banquette, equipped also with useful peaks for stowage of materials. Access to the second boarding ladder, designed for substantially high docks, is located along the starboard corridor.

From the external corridors, in which two side control stations for docking maneuvers are located, we access the totally open flush deck, that can also be used by guests as a party/sunbathing area. Here, two deck hatches allow access and use of the rescue boat and the jet ski, both handled by the davit crane located beside them. The stern maneuvering area, recessed and protected with windlasses, is equipped for all maneuvers typical of this type of yacht.

The Main deck features typical sailing yacht setting for the aft cockpit that hosts two C-shaped sofas with two connectable coffee/lunch tables. Complete cockpit protection is ensured by the aluminium superstructure featuring an elegant ceiling comprised of characteristic modular panels, fit in different tones of grey. The aft area of the cockpit hosts two comfortable sun pads, with stowage space and direct access to the lazarette beneath.

Two practical ladders, accessible through the side decks  of the motor yacht Exuma, situated amidships, lead to the bridge deck access. The starboard deck, served by the main boarding ladder for easy guest boarding, leads to the side entrance of the main lobby. The port deck constitutes the crew’s main entrance, contains the engine room’s emergency exit ladder and several fittings for side docking.

An elegant and functional glass sliding door leads to the entrance of the main open-space saloon, characterized by large glass windows that confer exquisite visibility and luminosity to the yacht. The living area, equipped with every latest generation entertainment device, is comprised of three C-shaped sofas located on the port side, while the dining area hosts a table that can be modified, is capable of seating up to 10 people, and is completed by a useful pantry. Amidships, the main lobby features the guest stair that directly connects the three decks, a day head and the Owner’s area, comprised of two staterooms both with large glass windows and en-suite bathrooms fitted with prized Italian marble.

Foreword by Philippe Briand

“There is no more delightful way of life for a ‘sea lover’ than on a yacht ‐ whether it be a sailing or motor yacht. It gives me genuine pleasure to be involved in the realisation of ‘sea lovers’ dreams as their naval architect. I hope that by listening to clients and nurturing their aspirations I can even transcend their wishes.

Yachts symbolise the desire to live life to the fullest and are always the realisation of a dream. My yachts are a true escape for all the owners and their guests. However, in today’s world I find it hard to justify the realisation of our dream might affect the basic livelihood of the next generations, which is why eco‐credentials are so important to us. The yachting industry has been driven forward by the ideas of our exceptional clients. They are clients with real ambitions and vision, people that innovate and are at the forefront of their industries. It is my opinion that those qualities, combined with the industry’s excellence, should be the drivers of true progress in our field as well as in all fields we touch.

From the beginning, the most basic tenet of Vitruvius® yacht design been our determination to ensure as much sustainability and ecological awareness as possible. We have put into practice what others have only talked about as possibilities for the future.”

Many people have tried to conceive an ecologically responsible yacht, Vitruvius® Yachts and Perini Navi are the very first to launch a yacht following these principles. Exuma motor yacht is here.

Yacht VERTIGO’s Christian Liaigre Interior Design Process

August 24, 2010

Interior designer Christian Liaigre for the Alloy Yachts  Sailing Yacht Vertigo 220′ talks about the interior design process.

Philippe Briand designed yacht Vertigo - constructed by Alloy Yachts

“The Interior design process has started from a client’s request that the sailing yacht Vertigo must feel “URBAN AT SEA”.
As they plan to stay long periods on-board, they want to feel in a light atmosphere instead of the more traditional “nautical signature”.

The general palette is providing a large amount of white surface combined with tinted walnuts and black sandblasted woods.
All complementary furniture has been custom design in order to match perfectly with the “sport chic” spirit of the Vertigo yacht.

The layout increase perspective effect. The boat longitudinal lines can be read all along the internal space because many partition walls are stopped before they connect to the hull.
On the main deck of the superyacht Vertigo, three big Black cores shelter the staircases in aluminium and some service area.

The long sinuous longitudinal side cabinet creates the link in between all the space. It extends visually the deck and can be read as the edge of an internal cockpit”.

Alloy Sailing Yacht VERTIGO designed by Philippe Briand

August 13, 2010

220 ft Philippe Briand designed sailing yacht Vertigo is the largest ever yacht designed by the company, as well as the largest built by the New Zealand shipyard Alloy Yachts. Her construction is overseen by the project manager Andrew Senn from Australia and is scheduled to be launched in December 2010.

In the first stage of design, back in June 2004, the first drawings outlined a AY41 sailing yacht Vertigo with an overall length of 200ft. Subsequently, the evolution of the design led to an increase in size resulting in an overall length of 220 ft (67 metres).

The challenge facing the Designer was to design a yacht that was large but “sensitive to sail”, which explains her modern hull lines. She is the first sailing yacht of her size to have an almost vertical bow. This feature allows for a greater waterline length, thus making for a considerable improvement in speed both under sail and engine power.

AY41 Sailing Yacht Vertigo designed by Philippe Briand - Image courtesy of Philippe Briand

With an air clearance restricted to 68m (for access to the Suez Canal) and a draft restriction of 5m, the designer of the AY41 Vertigo Sailing Yacht was particularly concerned with enhancing efficiency of the sail plan and keel.

A Ketch rig was the only suitable option. Mainsail and mizzen sail include roaches which have never before been seen or used on yachts of this size.  More surface area of the sails is exposed up where the wind velocity is greater than it is at the proximity of the water.  This led to having sails developing a larger driving force than that of conventional triangular sails.  Therefore runners are used in instead of permanent backstays. This is another first on a boat of this size, made possible via the technology of mast builders Southern Spars.

Philippe Briand desinged sailing yacht VERTIGO 220 flybridge Deck Accom - Image courtesy of Philippe Briand

Draft is increased to 9.10 m by a daggerboard extension.

Captive winches and vertical winches are custom made by Alloy Yachts.

Under sail super yacht Vertigo is expected to reach speeds of almost 20 knots in a reach with a true wind speed of 20 knots. Also, with light winds less than 10 knots, she will outperform the existing   mega sailing yachts.

Under engine power the yacht can reach a maximum speed of 17 knots and maintain a cruising speed of 12 knots with an estimated range of over 4000 nm.

Christian Liaigre drawings of the interior - Sailing Yacht Vertigo in construction at Alloy Yacht

Another original aspect lies in the layout. The main lazarette is situated in the middle of the boat rather than aft, as is more usually the case. As a result, access to the boat from her tender is more central. The aft lazarette houses a large 8 m “commuter” tender.  It is enclosed by one door serving as a swimming platform and the stairs to this transom door when it is open are formed from the aft passerelles.

On the foredeck there are two lockers that house 2 x 6m tenders. The foredeck and passage way are entirely flush. This gives the aesthetic a very sleek appearance to the AY41 Vertigo yacht which is unique for a yacht of this size.

Particular care has been given to the exterior relaxing areas, cockpit and flying bridge, affording the possibility to be outside and sheltered as you wish. The aft cockpit is especially well protected by a large hard-top that incorporates a louvre system and by lateral sliding windows. The flybridge is open but on demand it can be protected by a removable bimini top and a large dodger.

Philippe Briand 220 Deck plan - Image courtesy of Philippe Briand

The sun pads at the rear of the cockpit conceal a swimming pool.

Inside Vertigo sailing yacht is extremely comfortable; light floods in all around, as the designer intended especially in the saloon on the main deck. The sides of the superstructure are transparent, bringing the outside into the saloon. The perfect integration of deck saloon and cockpit create a seamless living area 30 m long.

The lower deck layout shows 4 x guest rooms and huge owner’s state room aft.  The passage from this cabin leads directly to the lazarette and swim platform. Forward there is enough accommodation for 11 crew.

Accommodation of the Alloy Yachts constructed AY41 yacht was designed by renowned interior designer Christian Liaigre. The atmosphere of the settings was established as “urban at sea”. In the interior, the palette of materials and hues is dominated by white lacquered surfaces combined and coordinated in a harmonious combination with tinted walnuts and black sandblasted woods.

There is every indication that this will be a true 220’ sailing yacht, comfortable and sensitive to sail. A worthy descendant of the great seafaring ships of the past.
