2011 Antibes Yacht Show marks the start of the great charter season

April 17, 2011

The 5th Antibes Yacht Show took place in the largest harbour in Europe, Antibes from April 7th – 10th, 2011. The event marks the start of the charter season in the Mediterranean and if the show is a barometer for the rest of the season as many say, then we can be looking forward to a great season in the yachting industry.

2011 Antibes Yacht Show marks the start of the great charter season

2011 Antibes Yacht Show marks the start of the great charter season

Amongst the 150 yachts and the 180 exhibitors the visitors were happy with the variety that was displayed at the show.

Yacht charters were booked and smaller yachts (20 meters) were sold. The larger yachts remain Antibes’ forte, as several superyachts (from 37-43m yachts) received offers and several brokers informed us they had very interesting contacts.

The exhibition seemed bigger with the 2 new marquees replacing the previous small tents villages. The growing visitors (13 000 this year) were pleased with the new structures which gave shade and coolness in the hot spring sun that shone for the 4 days.

It also allowed the organisers to regroup all of the equipment and interior decoration exhibitors in a new ‘refit area’.

The new ‘Crew Lounge’ sponsored by Bluewater Yachting was the most ‘fun and creative corner of the show’; a little haven for all crew visiting the show who enjoyed many activities from an intense chef competition to a very entertaining kayak race.

The ‘Happy Hours’ and the live band in the evening raised the level to an enthusiastic party.

Just above, the BastionSt Jaume, the Captains’ Lounge, was just as crowded. As the Captains got pampered they discovered the progress of the Montenegro Marina on their very impressive model and were also informed on pension plan with DeVere Group.

Riviera Yacht Support who organises the charity golf every year, chose not to give to the usual school (Montessory), but decided to contribute to the Red Cross Japenese Tsunami’s victims fund instead. Their noble gesture will increase the funds of some six hundred euros.

This year, the inauguration presided as usual by the M. Leonetti, Mayor of Antibes, honoured M. Camille Rayon (Antibes Yacht Show’s honorary president from 2007). At the eve of revealing the model presenting the extension of the IYCA, the officials decided to rename “Le Quai des Milliardaires” to “Quai Camille Rayon.” A justified gesture as M. Rayon is the creator of the IYCA.

Antibes Yacht Show is also keeping up with today’s technology. Visitors could access the Wi-Fi for a few hours daily at no cost, thanks to the Show’s internet partner GMC/Seas. For the first time the exhibitors had a Wi-Fi connection that really worked.

With so much business done early in the season Antibes Yacht Show, reinforces its place as the show to be in the spring in the Mediterranean area.

Yacht Carbon Offset for the MYBA Charter Show 2011

April 13, 2011

MYBA is partnering with Yacht Carbon Offset to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions from the 23rd MYBA Charter Show, which takes place in Genoa, Italy in May 2011. The MYBA Association represents over 100 Yachting companies with a growing number of superyacht owners and charterers that choose to compensate for the carbon footprint of their energy or fuel.

Yacht Carbon Offset for the MYBA Charter Show 2011

Yacht Carbon Offset for the MYBA Charter Show 2011

Carbon savings from one of Yacht Carbon Offset’s selected projects, in Nicaragua, have been allocated to match the estimated carbon emissions from electricity consumption at the event.

For the yachts themselves, Carbon Offsetting can easily be included in the arrangements of a luxury charter, and is a proportionate response that preserves full freedom of operation. The effectiveness of the action is underpinned by Yacht Carbon Offset’s Lloyds Register Quality Assurance Certification.

Jacqui Lockhart, Chairwoman of MYBA’s Boat Show Committee, said: “The MYBA Show is dedicated to charter professionals and provides a showcase for the finest superyachts available to their clients. It also hosts an exclusive display of those ancillary services that go to make up a perfect charter, tailored to the particular requirements of each group. Carbon offsetting is just such a service which a broker can offer to personalise each charter.

Equally, it is a practical way for MYBA to address its own environmental impact and we are pleased to continue our work with Yacht Carbon Offset for the Genoa show.”

Yacht Carbon Offset’s Managing Director Mark Robinson commented: “We are delighted to be participating at the forthcoming MYBA Show and look forward to raising awareness of our specialist service during this important event.

Carbon offsetting appeals to many high profile charter clients and we thank the MYBA team once again for their support.”

March 10, 2011

The new Refit Department at this year’s Antibes Yacht Show is already proving successful with Twenty-five exhibitors already signed up.

The Antibes Yacht Show partners with MYBA

February 17, 2011

The Antibes Yacht Show, now in its 5th year, has announced MYBA (Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association) – a Worldwide Yachting Association as a partner. The Antibes Yacht Show runs from April 7 – 10th 2011, and is the biggest spring show to focus on brokerage, charter and for the first time this year on refit.

Port Vauban, Antibes, France

Port Vauban, Antibes, France

The show which is held in Port Vauban, Antibes early in the year, is well positioned, both in time and location for a buyer looking for a new yacht for summer cruising.

MYBA is a worldwide professional trade association that was founded in 1984 by a group of prominent yacht brokers. MYBA membership is now composed of over 70 major brokerage companies. Their collective expertise of several centuries covers the sale, purchase, charter and management of substantial yachts, in addition to all other aspects of yachting such as new construction, project consultancy, MCA, ISM, crew recruitment, safety and manning.

MYBA only endorses membership to eligible companies with a proven track record, thereby offering valuable benefits and safeguards to clients choosing to purchase, sell, build or charter a yacht through a MYBA broker.

The Antibes Yacht Show is “very excited about this new partnership and the MYBA support.” They believe it “will further strengthen the show and give MYBA members the perfect show-case for their yachts this spring.”
