Nautor’s Swan SOLLEONE and the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show

August 04, 2011

The Swan 90 will grace the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show with its presence. Made for both competitive racing and extended cruising, the Swan 90 is the latest in a long line of racing yachts designed by Nautor’s Swan’s designer, German Frers. With hydraulic winches, hydraulic head furling sail and handling controlled via push buttons, the yacht can easily be managed by two or three people in cruising mode. For competitive racing, it can be crewed by a team of twenty.

The Swan 90 is available in two versions: Flush Deck (FD) and Semi-raised saloon (S). Swan 90 FD consists of a forward cockpit, providing a social space area and a main entrance to the saloon. A bridge deck links the forward cockpit to the steering cockpit providing access to the crew area and navigation station. The Swan 90 S differs with one cockpit which extends from the saloon entrance back to the helm, with no bridge deck offering a more spacious deck area.

Griffin Yacht Club for superyacht crew at the Monaco Yacht Show 2011.

August 01, 2011

Griffin marine travel, the world’s largest provider of specialised travel to the marine, offshore and maritime security industries and its Griffin Yacht Division will be hosting superyacht captains and crew in an exclusive lounge environment directly outside the Monaco Yacht Show in the famed restaurant, Le Saint Benoit.

“We think it essential to be close to the yachts to be convenient for crew members,” says Wally Kelm, continuing, “Time is precious for the crews during the show so they don’t need a long walk around the harbour.”

Open strictly for actively serving yacht crew, the “Griffin Yacht Club” will be open daily during the show and will offer complimentary breakfast and lunch along with an open bar just steps from the Designers Gallery. In fact, a lift opposite the Chicane Entrance to the show will whisk crews to the restaurant five floors above the harbour.

Etihad Airlines has donated two Business Class tickets and Griffin is in final negotiations with 10 select commercial sponsors from the yacht industry to position their brands to this quality audience.

“We’re working very closely with the owner of Le Saint Benoit, long term Monte Carlo restaurateur, Marcel Athimon, to ensure speedy service and the highest quality,” said Pieter Rieder, Griffin’s SVP Commercial Development, adding, “The idea, quite simply, it is that it should be fun and relaxing.”

Superyacht Intelligence Agency launches study to assess the economic impact of the superyacht industry.

July 26, 2011

The Superyacht Intelligence agency has launched a survey called the Economic Impact Report Survey 2011 which they hope will help them to assess the economic impact of the superyacht industry. Thousands of superyacht industry members have been asked to take the online survey, providing data for the global study.  Areas of analysis includes  industrial, financial, employment, manufacturing impact, cruising destinationscharter impact and a general superyacht consumption study.

The study was shaped after a debate at the American Superyacht Forum, a superyacht industry event, that revealed influential authorities and government bodies are still unaware of the size and scope of the emerging and expanding superyacht industry.

The global study is being sent to stakeholders in the market across the world and aims to show how much financial and socio-economic impact superyachts and the supporting industry has on the world today.

Martin H Redmayne, Chairman of the Yacht Report Group, of which Superyacht Intelligence is a division, commented:  ”I think it’s vital to generate a more global and regional report that the superyacht industry and its various bodies, associations and companies can use as influence or data to prove our worth and value.”

The findings of the survey and a full report of it will be published in time for the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show

44m Charter Yacht Hemisphere launched by Pendennis -The world’s largest sailing catamaran

July 25, 2011

Sailing catamaran Hemisphere, the yachting world’s most eagerly awaited superyacht, has recently been launched by the Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth and is undergoing sea trials and final completion works before exhibiting at the Monaco Yacht Show 2011 in September. With an overall length of 44.2m (145ft) and a gross tonnage of just under 500, S/Y Hemisphere boasts the title of being the world’s largest luxury sailing catamaran and is also available for luxury yacht charters.

Luxury superyacht builder Pendennis built the yacht Hemisphere that features naval architecture by the leading multihull architects Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) who designed the 33rd America’s Cup winning multihull. Celebrated superyacht interior designers Michael Leach Design completed the luxury catamaran Hemispheres’ interior. The result is an innovative design brimming with creatively practical features that blend speed and stability with both space and style to encompass the pure essence of innovation in the multihull market.

With a draft of just over 3m (9.8ft), the Hemisphere yacht boasts an ease of manoeuvrability and the scope to cruise shallow draft destinations inaccessible to monohulls of comparable size which is great news for luxury yacht charter guests being able to anchor close to secluded bays and beaches.

Hemisphere’s decks and rig are remarkably uncluttered as visible deck hardware has been minimised and the 58m (190ft) high mast soars free of spreaders with all lines run internally. Tenders are also stowed out of sight and the port transom houses a full watersports and dive locker served by a large hydraulic swim platform.

Destined for the luxury charter market in tropical climates, superyacht Hemisphere boasts a spacious flybridge with jacuzzi, sunpads and shaded dining along with a vast indoor/outdoor living area on the main deck. The relaxed and elegant interior by Michael Leach Designs is the epitome of contemporary chic and the yacht’s exceptional volume offers a high degree of luxury. The yachts dark wood floors are offset by a soothing neutral colour palette with countless customised touches such as seventeen different types of granite and sixteen leather finishes, creating an ‘island living meets deluxe Pacific Rim ambience’.

Sailing yacht Hemispheres is able to accommodate 12 charter guests in 5 comfortable, luxurious ensuite cabins and the yacht will operate with a professional crew of 8.

Megayacht Hemisphere’s inaugural season this summer will be enjoyed by her owners in the Mediterranean however she will be available for luxury yacht charters this winter in the Caribbean with charter rates starting at EUR 175,000 per week. Following this, she will transit the Panama Canal into the South Pacific for summer 2012. Conceptualised and built for cruising the tropics, the Hemisphere yacht is certain to set a new benchmark for luxury charters in some of the most exotic locations on the planet.

Hemisphere will make her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show 2011 in September, showcased by Pendennis. Contact the CharterWorld team here if you are intersted in chartering the luxury cat Hemisphere.

Explore 70 Superyacht – a Multifunction World Explorer concept by Newcruise

July 13, 2011

The Explore 70 is a new multifunction World Explorer Superyacht concept developed by Newcruise. The Newcruise Explore 70 motor yacht measures 72.40m (230 FT) and is a luxurious expedition yacht, to rival the most glamorous superyachts on the market with the largest pool ever installed, while still being capable of battling rough seas and travel around the world’s waters without restriction.

Explore 70 Superyacht – a Multifunction World Explorer concept by Newcruise

The special fascination for Explorer yachts started for the Hamburg design and construction office NEWCRUISE several years ago. During the development of the 115m megayacht LUNA the design team of Frank Neubelt, Roland Krueger and Catherine Raczek dealt intensively with this yacht form, especially while developing the outside deck. One of the more extreme challenges NEWCRUISE had to analyze was to develop the largest pool ever installed on a yacht.

To spend leisure time with family and friends, as well as to explore the seas in an adventurous manner and share these experiences are demands that the new Explore 70 should meet. To enjoy all this in a familiar living environment with maximum comfort and contemporary “LIFESTYLE” is Newcruises’ mission. There is enough space on the owner’s deck for four guest cabins, with each cabin accommodating two people.

Explore 70 motor yacht Owners Cabin – a World Explorer concept by Newcruise

To build an explorer means to create a character which is composed of two extremes:

The rough, rather masculine part of the NEWCRUISE-EXPLORER Explore 70 which is portrayed in the hull shape was conceived to battle rough sea areas on one side – and on the other side, to create the most glamorous luxury superyacht on the sea.

The market already offers explorer variations of different sizes, but mostly with a specific usage strategy. According to various questions and suggestions NEWCRUISE has been asked to bridge the gap between real functionality and practicality with a distinctive and elegant yacht style, but also to provide the ability to create variations of the GA layout as well as to identify different uses. The biggest challenge here is always to ensure a safe design and meaningful architecture, despite the combination of different characters in the design, layout and profile or even the combination of several variables.

Factors such as maintenance and upkeep expenses are further important issues, whether for beginners or experienced yacht-owners. NEWCRUISE therefore developed a superyacht concept of variable sizes between 60 and 70 m – the right size for travelling to popular yacht charter destinations deep within bays and fjords.

EXTERIOR STYLING AND LAYOUT of the Explore 70 expedition yacht embodies a compact look. Its robust engineered structure withstands even the heaviest waves. The NEWCRUISE explorer can consequently easily cross the Atlantic and Pacific on its own keel. All anchor and mooring systems are therefore fully covered under the foredeck.

The special innovative multi-purpose system which NEWCRUISE developed for the explorer concept offers unprecedented flexibility: a multifunctional aft deck provides differential use options – either for family travel with large pool (TOUCH) or for sporty Explorer (Fisherman).

The interior concept of the explorer 70 motor yacht skillfully bridges purism and modern elegance and unifies two souls in one body. The dialogue of the room between down to earth authenticity and modernity on an international level speaks for the design language of NEWCRUISE. Another philosophic element is the successful balance of a cold and warm water theme. This leads to a bidirectional interior which allows the authentic integration in the respective regions.

The Explore 70 concept by NEWCRUISE features warm smooth materials such as cashmere, fine wool and fur pieces that are combined with crisp color tones, which convey a fresh summer breeze. The fusion theme is underlined by the combination of different materials. The contrast of rough materials such as open pored woods and raw cut wooden monoliths as side tables, combined with elaborate silver and tanned brass surfaces as well as mirrors, build a balance of antagonism and create an elegant interior with a reticent nativity.

Multi-functional usage is also possible with the help of a multifunctional aft deck storage system housing a standard-size 40-foot container. This means that a variety of modules, from a pool to a touch-and-go helipad, can be created, and dropped into place depending on the requirements of the yacht – whether it is used for luxury  yacht charter vacations, cruising or true exploration.

In this container variant, all equipment’s, which is not in use is stowed in containers and only taken out when needed.

An explorer has the exciting ability to travel around the world’s waters without restriction.

This outstanding attribute is reflected in the interior theme, which bridges the gap between different countries and cultures. Following the recognizable clean lines of NEWCRUISE, the Explore 70 yachts’ modernism experiences an art deco touch. This unites all areas and creates a calm and successful display for these inter-continental influences. Each room shows typical recurring cultural elements of color and material interpretations, as well as defined decorations. From room to room the guest dives into different worlds and experiences his exciting trip not only on the seas, but also in the philosophy reflected in the living spaces on board as well.

The Explore 70 Multifunction World Explorer concept by Newcruise has appropriate architectural and safe engineering practice in the areas of hydrodynamics, sea keeping, wind tunnel testing and fuel usage optimization developed over many years, combined with a unique interior design.

At between 60m and 70m, the Explore 70 NEWCRUISE-EXPLORER is a perfect size for exploring worldwide superyacht destinations while still allowing for access to shallow cruising grounds and anchorages.
