Top 12 luxury catamarans for charter

June 21, 2017

Written by Rachael Steele

When the subject of sailing yachts is brought up, the general image conjured is that of a strikingly dark, sleek monohull with pure white sails billowing against blue skies. Most newcomers to sailing will also imagine a grand, historic yacht from centuries past – and for that reason the modern catamaran, while just as romantic, remains on the sidelines to receive little, if any attention.

Yet the advantages of sailing a catamaran particularly stand out on a luxury charter holiday: a shallower draft allows your party to venture closer to the exquisite secluded beaches, and an above waterline hull makes for bright and ventilated interiors without the reliance on air conditioning to shift the air flow. The wide beam of a catamaran often reduces the amount of unwanted noise filtering from living spaces into cabins, not to mention providing larger living spaces overall.

As for the modern element, the photos below will attest to the level of sophistication these contemporary interiors receive from globally known designers. Before you head off on your next grand adventure, take a look at these 12 fantastic vessels all built within the last decade, and uncover the unsung allure of catamarans.

There’s even a motor yacht among all those sails.

Lagoon is the world leader among modern catamaran builders, celebrating the launch of its 100th hull in May this year. Sailing yacht ENIGMA was built in 2013 and the immaculate interior contains a spacious living room surrounded in all directions by windows or glass doors that lead out onto the aft deck, where the shaded outdoor lounging area provides alfresco dining and sun-touched seating for the best place to relax with hobbies while taking in the watercolour surroundings.

Up on the bridge deck is the cockpit, where guests can spread out on the sunpads or sunbathe on the aft deck.

Luxury catamaran ENIGMA comes with an impressive selection of water toys, including adult and child water skis, kayaks, 2 x paddleboards, a wakeboard, snorkelling gear and diving equipment for Rendezvous diving.

For ease of access to the water with all the water toys, there are two swim platforms and a ladder.

Taking the classic wood panelling look and updating it for the 21st Century, interior designers Vain Interiors have used the bold stripe in walnut wood to add a continuous detail to every room. The main salon has plenty of comfortable sofas and armchairs for hours of socialising in large groups, and the large windows running down each side of the room ensure that there is plenty of natural light from the early hours of the morning right through to the last rays of sunset. As the evening wears on, lighting along the walls and down the centre of the room will keep the space bright and evenly lit, or guests can choose to dim the lights and watch a film together on the widescreen TV. Another smaller adjoining salon to the aft can be separated from the main salon by a sliding door, making a more private setting for smaller groups and turning the space into its own media room.

Glass sliding doors lead out on the the aft main deck where guests will find the large alfresco dining table perfect for sunset meals in the fresh Indian Ocean air. The spacious outdoor seating and coffee tables from Espen Oeino  make a great setting to start the day off with a group breakfast and are also well-suited to outdoor entertaining. Towards the bow, a helipad increases ease of access for friends and family joining later in the charter as well as allowing for private bird’s-eye view tours around your destination.

The Master suite is located on the upper deck, and occupiers may choose to make this floor entirely their own: the skylounge is another immaculately presented area ideal for informal, laid-back gatherings throughout the day and offers an excellent retreat from the midday heat after your guests have sunbathed on the sunpads or dined alfresco to the aft.

The sundeck provides the perfect location for panoramic views and has everything you and your guests need to remain outdoors all day long: sunpads and seating with tables to the bow provide perfect relaxation options whilst soaking up the sun. To the aft, the Jacuzzi will cool off friends and family on the hottest days.

The lower deck beach club is situated  beside the gym, so guests looking to stay dry can still exercise and remain close to the group on the water. Her on board beauty room, sauna, steam room and spa ensure that wherever you charter, you and your guests will always be refreshed and looking your best for the day ahead. Luxury yacht SILVER FAST has an excellent selection of water toys, including 2 Waverunners, a wakeboard, a paddleboard, snorkelling equipment and towable toys.

The layout accommodates up to 12 guests over 8 cabins: 1 Master suite, 3 VIP staterooms, 1 double cabin and 2 twin cabins with 2 Pullman berths. A crew of 18 will ensure that you and you guests have a fun and relaxing experience throughout your charter.
