Gulf Craft motor yacht Majesty 135

October 03, 2014

Luxury motor yacht Majesty 135 is a beautiful 41-metre large volume semi-custom vessel, constructed by Majesty Yachts, part of Gulf Craft. During the 2014 Dubai International Boat Show, superyacht Majesty 135 was showcased as the largest yacht on display, entirely built and manufactured in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Until recently superyachts built outside Europe and the USA were treated with suspicion, even disdain  in some quarters. How could new builders in countries such as Taiwan, China and in the Middle East possibly build a quality yacht? Well, that view is well on the way to being dismissed due to the efforts of several builders in the Middle East and Asia not least Gulf Craft with their Majesty Yachts brand competing strongly with regard to quality, design and attention to detail.

The world changed a lot after the 2007 Global Financial crisis with sales of luxury products being especially badly hit. Many industry observers stated that the superyacht sector was immune to the downturn, as the wealthy would always buy. They were wrong.  Superyacht builders are often notoriously secretive about orders and it took falling delivery numbers post 2012 to show that the market was changing. The wealthy don’t get rich by frittering money away and they were as quick as anyone else in the global downturn to start looking for better value for money. With Majesty Yachts able to offer prices significantly lower than western builders, while offering fantastic quality and semi- custom building capability, the stage was set for Majesty Yachts to prosper. Now, not a week goes by without prospective customers from all over the world coming to their United Arab Emirates (UAE) shipyard to see the yachts and the build capability.  The fact that Dubai and Abu Dhabi have become household names around the world, with Dubai recently chosen as the venue for the Expo 2020, has helped boost an awareness of the region.  With its roots founded firmly in the UAE, Majesty Yachts is proud to be part of a new era.

Anyone visiting the Dubai International Boat Show in March 2014 would have been hard pressed to miss the Majesty 135 superyacht, the largest yacht on show built and manufactured in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With over 30 years in the business, Gulf Craft’s Chairman Mohammed Al Shaali is rightly proud of this achievement. From humble beginnings in 1982, building small open boats for the local market, Gulf Craft has grown to be a major international player in the boating industry, achieving in late 2013 the distinction of being the world’s tenth largest builder of Superyachts in terms of total length of yachts on order.

The driving force behind Gulf Craft, has been and still is, its founding partner, Mohammed Al Shaali heads up the business as Chairman and major shareholder. Mohammed is still actively involved, particularly in the design and development of new yachts and boats, which are his particular interest. Mohammed explained: `It’s difficult to be successful building yachts and boats if you don’t have a passion for boats and the sea.’

His passion is clearly as strong today as it was when he took his first tentative steps as a boat builder thirty two years ago. In explaining the company’s business philosophy he stated:`We consider ourselves austere, as everything we do is aimed at benefiting our customers to provide value for money and we feel proud to have become a successful example of a national industry in the UAE that has received global recognition’.

Responsible for the operations of the company is Erwin Bamps, the Chief Operating Officer, who this year celebrates twelve years with the business. Belgian born Erwin has worked alongside Mohamed to transform the company from a small family owned and run business into a modern corporate, employing over 1,700 staff.

The Majesty 135 yacht is the latest in a line of fly-bridge yachts that started with the Adora 53 in 1992 a design that was instantly successful selling sixty units and proved to be a major turning point  for Gulf Craft, propelling it into a new era of boat building the outcome of which is the Majesty Yachts range.

The Majesty 135

Majesty Yachts use a combination of craftsmanship and technology to produce stunning designs with quality finishes on the exterior and interiors of its yachts. The Majesty 135 yacht is an impressive example of how this works. As building a superyacht is now always a semi- custom project, a high degree of technology can reduce manufacturing times and consequently offer the customer exceptional value for money, while at the same time adding the human ‘craftsmanship’ touch. The Majesty 135 is the latest example of this build philosophy and throughout the yacht there exudes a style, quality and a presence that are timeless, the true sign of a classic product. Additionally there are touches of practicality that abound throughout, making the operating and living onboard a pleasure for the owner, guests and crew.

Boarding the luxury yacht Majesty 135 from the aft deck, the size and capacity of the retractable diving and dinghy boarding platform is immediately apparent,  the guests need for fun on the water are well catered for. Aft of the engine room is the garage area for diving and water sports equipment.

Superyacht Majesty 135 - Galley

Superyacht Majesty 135 - Galley

The cockpit has large seating area with 32’ flat screen TV, wet bar with ice maker and watertight access door to a companionway leading to the two crew aft cabins and from there to the engine room. The cockpit, besides being large and comfortable, is practical with safety features such as side access gates and concealed Maxwell hydraulic capstans and fairleads. There are also a remote steering and engine control docking station at the star-board side of the cockpit, as well as a further two situated each side of the pilot house forward.

The crew are well provided for with two sizable double aft crew cabins, both with en- suite facilities and a large galley and mess area. With an eye to electrical engineering reliability, this area also accommodates the electrical distribution panels, with easy access for the crew, avoiding the engine room, where they would be subject to both vibration and heat. A veritable suite of appliances adjacent to the crew area include high quality Miele washing machines and tumble driers. Machine use is well thought out in this yacht with two of each installed.

Motor yacht Majesty 135 - Dining

Motor yacht Majesty 135 - Dining

Entering the main saloon from the cockpit the Anigre veneer, which extends throughout the yacht, gives a light finish and a feel of understated elegance which will surely stand the test of time. The quality of the joinery is simply flawless throughout this yacht. Deep windows give panoramic views and provide light in abundance. If the sun becomes too much, electric blinds can be operated in an instant. Further forward is the dining area which can seat up to ten guests.  One is immediately impressed by the engraved crystal mural of the world on the forward main lounge bulkhead behind the dining table, a tasteful and highly original feature. Like almost all other components on the yacht, this is either manufactured in house or by local specialist suppliers who have developed their designs and products in line with Gulf Craft and Majesty Yachts requirements. To the uninitiated, this shows just how far Gulf Craft and the UAE, have progressed in recent years in the superyacht world.

A first for Majesty Yachts and an impressive feature, is the extending balcony on the starboard side of the saloon. This extension offers outboard access via sliding doors from the saloon to the platform, providing a fantastic space to view the ocean and watch the sun go down. The balcony is hydraulically operated and can take up to three people.

Super yacht Majesty 135 - Main Saloon

Super yacht Majesty 135 - Main Saloon

Accessible from the port side of the main saloon is the huge galley with a large oven and cooking range with fridges and freezers, again high quality Miele appliances are used throughout. Fitting for a yacht that may well spend a lot of its life cruising long distances, there is an enormous amount of cold storage capacity, not just in the galley area, but also down below. Accessible by a companion way from the galley is a walk- in deep freeze of 5.4 cubic metres capacity and a cold room of 4.55 cubic metres capacity. Once again the crew are well catered for with two en -suite crew cabins situated in the same area. Apart from the direct access to the external area via a pantograph door, a neat touch within the galley is a hidden door which allows access for the crew to the rest of the yacht without going through the guest dining area.

Moving forward on Majesty 135 yacht is the owner’s suite. Airy and light with the now familiar contemporary feel, this area is the ultimate in luxury. The en- suite is tastefully finished with marble in abundance for the washbasins and deck with shades of cappuccino onyx, rainforest brown and afyon sugar. All of the marble and corian on the Majesty Yachts 135 is cut to shape in the shipyard by computer controlled water jet cutting machines, another example of the vertical integration policy of the business to ensure an exceptional level of accuracy and finishing. Ample storage space is provided with full length wardrobes and cupboards all detailed to the highest standard.

Access to the four guest cabins on the deck below is from a stairwell just aft of the owner’s suite. This leads down to a lobby area with access to the four guest cabins, two being equipped with double berths and two with single berths. The aft two guest cabins are separated from the engine room by the en-suite facilities which ensure the noise level from the engine room aft is minimized. Examples of Majesty Yacht’s attention to detail are everywhere, including the illuminated hand rails, Novasuade covering to the walls in the stairwell and the walls in the lobby finished in Stolz leather with a beautiful sting ray pattern finish. The guest areas are not restricted in the use of marble either, with Yellow Onyx and Crema Marfil being used extensively on the deck, en-suite showers, sinks and vanity units.

The Piano lounge on the next level of the Majesty 135 incorporates a baby grand piano, which was played extensively during the yachts public showing at the Dubai International Boat Show. The lounge incorporates a semi -circular OLED 46 inch TV and has an attractive bar with a mini galley. Here a blue marble ‘azul bahia’ has been used with a pleasing effect for the bar counter and worktops.

Moving upwards once again it’s easy to lose an awareness of which deck one is on, this yacht is deceptively spacious for its size. Once on the sun deck it’s easy to see that this will be the centre of attraction when the weather is suitable. At the forward end is a walk around jacuzzi with retractable sun roof and aft a large wet bar with barbecue, ice box, chest freezer and fridge. At the aft end of the sun deck is a 1500 kilos capacity crane with space for a RHIB and two personal water craft.

The wheelhouse is accessible both internally and via side doors to the upper side decks. A fully comprehensive navigation fitted out with three Raymarine 19 inch multi display monitors at the central helm. The Captain has a well appointed cabin with en-suite accessible from the wheelhouse.

Technology and craftsmanship are essential components in building the Majesty 135 superyacht

Majesty Yachts noted that the global marine market started to change after 2007 with an increasing number of customers requiring their own interior designs. With the global market more competitive and the customer becoming King, yacht builders around the world could no longer ignore this trend if they wished to survive. At the same time considerable advances in technology appeared, allowing efficient and fast semi-custom work to be offered. Gulf Craft has been one of the leaders in this technology field. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) systems and machines have been progressively installed over the past 5 years. These systems allow the company to rapidly develop new layouts for customers at the design stage and complete accurate costings. Once approved by the customer, the designs are transformed into digital format so that the CAM machines can accurately and efficiently cut the joinery, marble, stainless steel and other components for installation on the yacht by a team of skilled craftsmen.

CAM machines used by Gulf Craft for its Majesty superyacht fleet include sophisticated state of the art water jet cutting equipment for stainless steel and marble, router cutting machines for joinery and veneering machines to produce the finest veneer finishes on interior joinery. Final finish is perfected using the latest spray booths and equipment for joinery before final assembly. The Gulf Craft strategy is to manufacture most of the components for its yachts and boats in house maintaining maximum control on delivery times and quality.

The Gulf Craft total workforce is now over 1,700 of which more than 50 staff are involved in the CAD and CAM systems development and operation. Despite the investment in technology, craft skills are still vital for the final assembly stages and Gulf Craft runs an extensive training and ongoing development scheme for its workforce.

Conclusion

With a successful thirty two year track record in boat building and many thousands of boats and yachts in service in markets around the world, Gulf Craft can feel justly proud of its latest Majesty 135 superyacht. Hard work and dedication have now firmly established the yard as a key player in the global boating business.

Not a company to rest on its laurels, Gulf Craft is increasingly focused on new boating markets in Asia. It has seen good results selling Majesty Yachts in China, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Despite the increased focus on exports, Mohamed Al Shaali is still aware that the Middle East home market is the core of the company’s business and his personal passion for boating in his home Gulf waters is as strong as ever. We can expect yet more new and interesting developments in the future, including the Majesty 155 yacht from Gulf Craft, a forwarding thinking company, that has thrived on the hard work and vision of its founder and the team he leads.

Gulf Craft, recently named one of the world’s top 10 superyacht manufacturers, is currently playing a host to the Sultanate’s first-ever leisure marine show. The event officially opened its doors at Almouj Marina at The Wave Muscat in Oman today, on May 1, 2014.

The three-day ‘Gulf Craft Exclusive Preview’ event runs until May 3rd and brings together an impressive fleet of luxury superyachts, sport cruisers and leisure craft.

On display will be some of the shipyard’s largest and most popular luxury superyachts such as the superyacht Majesty 135, luxury yacht Majesty 121 and motor yacht Majesty 105, as well as a number of new yacht models and vessels from its Oryx sport cruiser and Silvercraft leisure boat ranges.

The event serves as further confirmation of Oman’s growing potential as a market for luxury goods and services. The country’s reputation is steadily building on the back of several high-profile resorts that have gained international clout among wealthy travelers, and growing investment in building the Sultanate’s marine infrastructure and service offering.

“Marine leisure assets are tipped to be one of the most natural choices for investment for wealthy Omanis, given the Sultanate’s rich sea-faring heritage, natural coastal attractions and the recent investment in both marina infrastructure and waterfront tourism attractions such as luxury resorts and marine activities,” said Mohammed AlShaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft.

Oman has made a targeted effort at beefing up its attractiveness as a leisure marine destination – with the opening of new marinas, competitive berthing fees and investment in support facilities such as fueling stations to attract stopover yacht traffic. The overall upgrading of facilities is expected to have a positive effect in attracting more Omanis to the water, making it one of the most promising marine markets in the Middle East.

Moreover, Oman was named as the fastest growing wealth market in the Middle East and Africa between 2011 and 2015 according to Datamonitor’s Middle East and Africa Wealth Markets Database, which makes it a hugely attractive market for sales of luxury goods, including yachts.

“As a leader in this market with a heritage that is rooted in the Gulf, we are keen to capitalize on the natural advantage this position affords us in Oman and to encourage more wealthy Omanis to discover and appreciate the joys of the yachting lifestyle in their home waters,” said Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer at Gulf Craft.

Headlining the striking line-up of models that are expected to attract the attention of wealthy Omanis, is Gulf Craft’s largest superyacht to be constructed to date – the Majesty 135 yacht. The luxurious superyacht delivers on the yard’s long-standing reputation of providing the owner with a large sun deck, exceptional interior space utilization and impressive on-board features, like the folding balcony on the main deck seating area. Three decks of richly decorated interiors accommodate 10 guests in 5 staterooms as well as a crew capacity of 9 people. The vessel possesses an ocean-going range of 2,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots, running on twin MTU 16V 2,000 series engines delivering 2,600 HP each, with a maximum speed of 22 knots.

The Omani premiere of the Majesty 135 superyacht is accompanied by two more market premieres; the Majesty 48, Gulf Craft’s intelligently-engineered answer to the growing demand for mid-sized yachts and the Waveshuttle 56 – a brand new ‘alternative yacht’ design that can be utilized as a floating majlis, on-water limousine or luxury passenger transport vessel.

The Majesty 48 – with its fresh, contemporary interior design, a social cockpit area and spacious fly-bridge – has been designed as a fully-option yacht that can be owner-managed and is expected to be extremely popular within the family leisure market.

Commenting on the event, Hawazen Esber, CEO at the Wave, Muscat, said: “We are proud that Almouj Marina is hosting the Sultanate’s first-ever leisure and marine show and that The Wave, Muscat, with its multi-dimensional venues and offerings, continues to be the destination of choice for Oman’s most sought-after events centering on creating unique recreational experiences. The yachting and marine lifestyle is an integral component of our master-planned development and the show is a great fit for residents, tourists and visitors alike, with perfect brand synergy between Gulf Craft and The Wave, Muscat. We are confident that the event will be a resounding success and hope that this will be the first of many more in the future.”

The Gulf Craft fleet will dock at Almouj Marina, The Wave, from May 1st – 3rd and will be led by the largest superyacht to be built by the shipyard to date – motor yacht Majesty 135 (Winner of the “Best Asia Built Yacht’ at the 2013 Asia Boating Awards). It will be joined by other luxury superyacht models, including the luxury yacht Majesty 105 (shortlisted for Boat International’s 2014 World Superyacht Awards) in addition to 2014 models of the Oryx sport cruisers and Silvercraft leisure boat range.

Gulf Craft’s inaugural show in the Sultanate comes as Oman continues to make the headlines for increasing investment in its tourism infrastructure, in which its marina industry shines as a prominent contributor. With a 10% growth in tourism and almost 2.1 million global visitors in 2013, the Sultanate is continuing to strengthen its waterfront offering for leisure travelers, at the existing line-up of marina facilities – creating the perfect grounds for Oman’s first-ever show of this kind.

“We are very excited to be hosting this exclusive preview for our clients and the public in Oman. We have a strong heritage in the market and in the region as a whole, having operated in the GCC for 33 years. We believe Oman already has a strong appetite to expand its leisure marine offering, considering its natural coastal assets and active marina players such as The Wave Muscat who are doing their share to develop waterfront community living in the Sultanate. We see this event as a great way to showcase our wide range of craft which covers everything from smaller family leisure boats to luxury superyachts, and we hope to bring more people to the water here in Oman,” said Mohammed Alshaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft.

Visitors to the Gulf Craft Exclusive Preview event will be able to tour the yachts and boats on display at Almouj Marina, The Wave Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, from 4 pm to 10.00 pm from May 1st – 3rd.

Gulf Craft, recently named one of the world’s top 10 superyacht manufacturers, is currently attending the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) 2014, displaying its newest superyacht models. These include luxury yacht Majesty 135 – Winner of the “Best Asia Built Yacht’ at the 2013 Asia Boating Awards, motor yacht Majesty 121, as well as the Majesty 105 yacht, which has been nominated for Boat International’s 2014 World Superyacht Awards.

The shipyard is also highlighting its under-construction superyacht Majesty 155 – the largest build in its history – with a special presentation at DIBS of the superyacht’s luxurious interiors, which illustrate Gulf Craft’s superior focus on innovation and engineering, high quality material selection and craftsmanship.

In 2013, Gulf Craft’s international superyacht credentials were significantly bolstered with the delivery of six yachts above 30mt, three of which were above 35m. The company moreover gained a more prominent presence in mature markets such as Europe with the delivery of three superyachts to the Continent.

Mohammed AlShaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft, said, “Today Gulf Craft is seen as a shipyard that consistently brings innovative new designs to the market and this is evident in the award-winning line-up on show at DIBS this year. Our different approach to designing and manufacturing extends across our entire range of products – from superyachts to smaller leisure craft and sport cruisers. In recent months, Gulf Craft has been recognized as one of the leading shipyards on the global stage, joining other UAE brands in the luxury and marine lifestyle business that have successfully exported their expertise to foreign shores.”

Among its premiering line-up is a brand new yacht model, the Majesty 48, which has been designed to cater to a wider audience of yachting enthusiasts.

“The Majesty 48 is designed to make yacht ownership more attainable in a market that is showing increasing demand for mid-size yachts and leisure craft globally,” said Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer at Gulf Craft. “With a surge in the development of marine lifestyle properties and more opportunity for leisure boating with upcoming projects such as the Dubai Canal and Bluewaters Island in Dubai, amidst other waterfront developments in the immediate region, we anticipate a promising market in the entire GCC.”

He added: “The Majesty 48 has been designed as a fully-equipped family leisure yacht that can be owner-managed and comes with all features desired in a yacht of its size. It is intelligently engineered as a full-option yacht that maximizes the utilization of interior space, natural light and usability.”

Building on its reputation of being able to spot early trends and deliver innovative concepts, Gulf Craft is also launching the Waveshuttle 56 – a brand new ‘alternative yacht’ design that can be utilized as a floating majlis, on-water limousine or luxury passenger transport vessel.

Gulf Craft is also exhibiting 2014 models of its Oryx sport cruiser and Silvercraft leisure craft range at DIBS 2014.

Gulf Craft is on hand at MD35 and EX24 at the Dubai International Boat Show, which runs from March 4th-8th at Dubai International Marine Club.
