Ian Jones, sales manager at the world’s leading superyacht directory Yachting Pages, said, “Dubai is the hub of superyacht activity and business for the entire region. Many important relationships and deals will be forged over the five days of the show, and we’ll be at the heart of it.

“Representatives for Yachting Pages and our prestige product, the hard-back Superyacht Owners’ Guide (SYOG) will be found in the Media Lounge in the Luxury Supplies and Services sector, and we can’t wait to meet our valued clients again and to make some new partnerships.”

Turkey is putting itself firmly on the global superyacht map this year with exhibitors including Miss Tor Yacht, ECI Yacht, Gora Yacht, Kaiserwerft and Safter Marine.

Francis Carter, senior account manager at Yachting Pages, is very aware of Turkey’s rising star. He said, “Turkey is a hotbed of superyacht innovation, design and build at the moment, proving themselves amply capable of building incredible vessels to the same standards you’d expect from Italy or Germany. They’re the ones to watch.”

Running for over 20 years, the Dubai show brings together over 5,000 ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWIs) with world-classs producers and service providers from across the superyacht spectrum.

Over 26,000 of the Middle East’s marine investors and enthusiasts are expected to attend this dynamic and award-winning show, drawn by highlights such as 33 world premieres.

Offering the luxury brands and exhibitors present the chance to leverage almost £5million in PR and advertising coverage, Dubai reigns supreme as one of the world’s top five boat shows with sectors for superyacht buyers, luxury car enthusiasts, diving professionals and marine lovers.

Oyster Yachts Launch PENELOPE yacht (100-2)

October 29, 2012

The prominent luxury yacht builder, Oyster Yachts, is please to announce that the second Oyster 100 Superyacht, PENELOPE (100-02) has concluded her sailing trials with success, before the delivery to her owners in November, 2012. Penelope yacht’s launch represents a second important step in the long-term project, which has seen the collaboration of powerful, award-winning trio of Dubois Naval Architects, Oyster Group and RMK Marine.

This combined experience has produced Superyachts that match the best in the world and offers every customer the opportunity to enjoy the smoothest process available for getting afloat, providing a sophisticated entry into Superyacht ownership. The concept, launched in the heyday of the pre-recession world, is even more appropriate today; building a one-off custom superyacht is a challenging venture. The market, during recession, has seen the determined buyer move larger, into 50m – 100m sailing yacht projects. The Oyster-Dubois-RMK series-produced offering of the Oyster 100 and Oyster 125, gives a purchaser who wants a more predictable and faster means of owning a proven Superyacht, a less time-demanding (during build) solution of getting afloat.

By selecting a series-produced yacht, owners share the benefits of proven design, construction and engineering, and can devote their attention to stamping their individuality on the interior. Oyster’s commitment to build these superyachts to Lloyds +100A1 G6 MCH and MCA LY2 classification, the most stringent in the world that guarantees the structural integrity and engineering of each yacht, is not only the highest endorsement of the Oyster Superyacht fleet’s quality of construction, but underpins the continued value of each owner’s investment.

The Oyster 100 yacht is designed with the specification, features and Classification of very much larger yachts. The standard accommodation layout offers three staterooms aft and two crew cabins forward. A raised saloon offers a panoramic view and leads forward and down to a more intimate lounge and separate dining area. Forward of the main living area is the crew mess, galley and two crew cabins. A six-cabin variant is also available, offering a fourth double guest cabin forward,
in addition to the two crew cabins.

Sadly, the owner of superyacht Penelope says “he has had to go back to work since ordering the yacht” and she is for sale at €10m through Oyster brokers in Palma.

Penelope yacht will be available for viewings in Palma from December and is ‘ready to go’ for a new owner.

Ed Dubois writes after visiting the completed Oyster 100-01: “I was very happy as I left the shipyard in Istanbul, having seen the first completed Oyster 100. It is wonderful how Oyster has managed to combine their reputation for building strong, seaworthy craft with the quality and finish that is now expected in the best sailing Superyachts. As designers, we are of course full of admiration for the builders of our craft and at the same time very particular about who we work with.

The all-important relationship between designer and builder is crucial to the success of any project. We now have over 50 yachts afloat of 100ft and over in the world, and this experience combines with that of the best shipyards to keep the quality at the top.

We are therefore delighted that Oyster has joined this club and we look forward with confidence and excitement to see the second Oyster 100 and the Oyster 125 reaching completion.”

Oyster would like to thank all its suppliers for their help in developing the Oyster Superyachts, in particular North Sails, Lewmar and Hall Spars.

Lewmar’s New Winch Designs for 47m Hoek Classic sailing yacht and 45m Dixon yacht

September 28, 2012

With the development of Superyacht design trends, the look as well as feel of the equipment destined for them must also evolve. With that in mind, Lewmar has recently redesigned its custom line of deck winches to provide a cleaner, more streamlined look.

To achieve this, the winches are now flat topped, either being entirely smooth or with additional detailing, dependent upon the owner’s preference. The stripper ring has also changed from being a separate piece to being integrated within the self-tailing jaws themselves. This feature, usually found in more race-focussed winches, results in improved rope stripping performance and presents less of a potential rope snag than previous versions.

The new designs have been included in the specifications of two new recently-signed equipment supply contracts.

The first, a 47m Classic sailing yacht design by Hoek, will take a total of 7 hydraulically-powered winches in sizes 111 and 122.

The second boat, a 45m Dixon yacht to be built at Holland Jachtbouw, will be fitted-out with two 111/3 speed halyard winches, two 12 tonne 122/4 speed winches with backwind and a size 88 2-speed winch on the foredeck. In addition, Lewmar will be providing a full V10 hydraulic vertical windlass anchoring package for this yacht.

Sunseeker awards Lewmar ‘Sunseeker Business and Supplier Award’

Lewmar have supplied windlasses to Sunseeker yachts for a number of years on boats up to 100ft, but the new agreement sees the introduction of the impressive V9, V10 and V12 onto the larger superyachts up to and including the flagship Sunseeker 155 Yacht, which is due to premiere at the London International Boat Show 2014.

Roger Cerrato, Lewmar’s UK Sales Manager, commented, “Sunseeker International have been fitting our all stainless V-Series windlasses for a number of years and this new agreement to include their larger vessels demonstrates that Lewmar now have a high quality, stylish and robust windlass solution for today’s most demanding Superyachts.”

To complement the windlasses, Lewmar has developed a range of bespoke hardware, including chain stoppers and devil’s claws, which allow the perfect fit and functionality that this premium yard and its customers expect. It has also invested in Variable Frequency Drive technology to allow very large A/C motors to be operated efficiently, smoothly and with minimal stress to mechanical components.

In addition, Lewmar is proud to have been recognised as one of Sunseeker’s key suppliers, receiving the “Best Value Added Supplier” award at Tuesday morning’s Southampton Boat Show prize ceremony. This is in recognition of Lewmar’s integrated supply of anchor chain sets which minimises packaging and storage space and reduces boatyard labour time during fit out. Awards were presented to suppliers in 10 categories who were all recognised for their exceptional performance in meeting the company’s stringent requirements.
