The biggest yacht in the show this year is superyacht Aycer 110 from Sayer Yachts. This 110-foot modern model brings a new concept of comfort, with its beam sized over 23 feet. The sophisticated décor can be customised and combined with the spacious interior, maximising the leisure and entertainment areas while enjoying privacy. With the speed of up to 33 knots, it is a perfect companion for long journey.

Under the spotlight this year is the HK$63 million luxury charter yacht Predator 92, produced by Sunseeker, a famous UK brand featuring in James Bond movies. This top-of-the-range yacht has an eye-catching sleek profile and is equipped with luxurious and spacious cabins. With a cruising speed of 44 knots per hour, Predator 92 can reach Macau from Hong Kong in just 45 minutes.

An outstanding series Horizon E70E from the notable Taiwan brand Horizon is especially popular in Australian and New Zealand market. As one of the Show’s focus this year, E70E retains the modern look with sleek profile of E series, provides spacious design equipped with three exquisite hand crafted suites, foredeck with its massive sunbed and a great seating area. It radiates an elegance of a classy yacht.

Another highlight is the sleek and alluring Novatec 58 Euro yacht. The innovative Dual Salon Design is especially for those who intent to use this boat to entertain guests and VIP. Unlike most boats that have a master suite in one salon, the aft cabin is designed to be a second salon that extends the dinette area and features a full size head and direct access to the swim platform for ease of waters sports.

Equally stunning is the Taiwan built luxurious yacht Dyna 55, which measures over 54 feet. With high performance and advanced equipments of Nobel bow and stern thruster 16hp, hydraulic lifting platform and extension to fly bridge in a sleek profile, it is just alluring.

“Mainland China and Taiwan’s yacht builders are achieving their top-level luxury position by continuously honing their yacht-building technology and introducing modern exterior design. On the other hand, there is a tendency towards large-sized and spacious model among the dealers for the extensive demand of business social activities. These kinds of yacht become the highlights of the show this year,’ said Mr. Albert Wu, General Manager of Gold Coast Yacht and Country Club.

In addition to the stunning marine displays, the organiser has arranged a fabulous catwalk show with top models showcasing TOPSHOP 2013 Spring/Summer collection, which brings the hippest British styles and trends to Hong Kong for the first time with the launch of their store on Queen’s Road Central on 6 June, 2013.  What is more, a brand new Aston Martin Rapide S will be displayed on the floating pontoon for exhibition with live band and dance performance to further uplift the ambience.

San Fernando Race 2013: Double victory for Smith 72 sailing yacht ANTIPODES

April 02, 2013

With eleven boats of the 24-boat San Fernando Race 2013, safely moored off the beach, and target finish times for the other boats now passed, Geoff Hill can relax in the knowledge that the Smith 72 sailing yacht Antipodes will receive not only the silverware for Line Honours, but also for IRC Overall at the formal prizegiving back in Hong Kong.

The Philippine team of Standard Insurance Centennial, headed by Ernesto Echauz, finishes second overall, with the Ker 40, Peninsula Signal 8 coming in third, and 1st in IRC Racing Division 1.

Speaking after the race, co-owner Jamie McWilliam described the thrill of the boat, on its first offshore race: “We thought we were doing 9 or 10 kts all the way home, then all of a sudden at midnight, we had 15,16,17 kts and then the breeze clocked round to the north. It was awesome, just brilliant. We had a brilliant full moon, pointing exactly where we were pointing … 15.7kts was the top [boat speed] that we got. The closest we ever got to stopping was at Lei Yue Mun gap [at the start].”

The steady conditions enjoyed by the leading boats did not last for those further back in the fleet, with the curse of the Luzon hole hitting both early this morning and at sundown. Never the less, for the 13 boats still on the water, a steady procession beckons through tonight, with the last boat on the water, Allegro, due to arrive on Sunday morning.

Smith 72 Yacht ANTIPODES wins 2013 San Fernando Race

March 29, 2013

After 480 nm and more than 51 hours of competing, Geoff Hill’s Smith 72 yacht Antipodes crossed the finish line of this year’s 19th edition of San Fernando Race to claim Line Honours. Having taken a route south of the rhumb line, Hill avoided the wind shadow of the Philippine coast. Thus, once out of Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour, sailing yacht Antipodes rarely dropped below 9-knot speed for the entire race.

Navigator Alan “Guilty” Tillyer put their success down to the consistent breeze, saying “The second night the moon was out and we had a terrific sail. In spite of the forecast, the wind was much better and we came in much quicker than expected – it’s been an awesome sail.”

The next boat due to finish is the Philippine entry, Standard Insurance Centennial followed by Peter Cremer’s Warwick 75 sailing yacht Shahtoosh and Peter Churchouse’ custom Warwick yacht Moonblue 2. Hill stands a very good chance of ‘doing the double’ and lifting both Line Honours and IRC Overall silverware, but he has a long wait for some of the smaller players to cross the finish line before he knows for sure.

Italian luxury yacht builder CRN presents itself in Hong Kong

March 27, 2013

The prestigious Italian luxury yacht builder, CRN, part of the Ferretti Group, targets the Eastern markets with determination. As part of this strategy, the shipyard has recently presented itself to the media, hosting a tailor-made event in Hong Kong.

CRN Shipyard in Ancona, Italy

CRN Shipyard in Ancona, Italy

The Ferretti Group shipyard in Ancona, specialized in the manufacturing and marketing of fully custom and semi-custom alluminium or composite mega yachts, ranging from 40 to 90 metres, has decided to present the strategies, results, trends and prospects to the operators of the “Greater China” market, a term which is commonly used to refer to the area that includes China together with Macao and Hong Kong.

For this purpose, CRN organized a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel and Mauro Frattesi, Ferretti Group Apac Managing Director, Lamberto Tacoli, President and CEO of CRN, and Luca Boldrini, Marketing Manager, gave speeches.

The Hong Kong event, which was important for CRN’s development strategies, followed the historic launching of the 80 metre CRN 129 motor yacht Chopi Chopi held on 12th January, just a few days before the Hainan Rendez Vous (30th March – 2nd April), the great international event dedicated to luxury, which has gained more and more importance over the years, and in which CRN will participate together with the Ferretti Group to meet clients and brokers.

During the press conference, President Tacoli presented the company’s situation, starting from the recent launching of the superyacht Chopi Chopi, the largest megayacht manufactured by the shipyard, which was launched in Ancona on 12th January after an event that was open to the city and attended by 4000 people.

Tacoli mentioned that CRN celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013, an important milestone which confirms the tradition and stability of the shipyard, which in the past experienced difficult moments and which operates within a complex market, sometimes turbulent, and which has even seen some brands disappear.

The Marketing Manager of CRN, Luca Boldrini, highlighted the importance of completely customized productions, adaptability and the novelties of the new yachts, emphasizing the different external lines constantly proposed by the ship owners and researched in collaboration with the most important international yacht designer firms.

CRN is well-established among the international shipbuilding elite, and records confirm its vitality: in fact, in the shipyard of Ancona 7 yachts of the CRN brand are being manufactured: six steel and aluminum megayachts –CRN 125 60 m luxury yacht J’Ade, launched in November 2012 and which will be delivered to the ship owner in April, CRN 129 80 m mega yacht Chopi Chopi, launched on 12th January and which will be delivered in May, 74m superyacht CRN 131 (all designed by Zuccon International Project), CRN 132 73 m (designed by Omega Architects), CRN 133 60 m (designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design), CRN 134 55 m (designed by Nuvolari & Lenard) – and a 43m CRN Navetta 43 made of composite, also designed by Zuccon International Project.

Among other things, the 60 metre superyacht J’Ade continues to have the success of the previous megayachts which have a 10.2 metre wide platform, and that has led to the manufacturing of important ships in the history of CRN, namely, charter yacht Ability, charter yacht Maraya, Romance, superyacht Blue Eyes, motor yacht Mimtee and luxury yacht Darlings Danama, but with design and technological innovations that make then unique.

Together with these CRN ships, in the shipyard of Ancona five maxiyachts of the Custom Line brand are being built (two CL 124’, two CL Navetta 33 Crescendo and the CL 112’ yacht Next) and the Riva 122’ superyacht Mythos made of aluminum, all of which are being manufactured. This is an impressive number of yachts, especially when their size and prestige is taken into consideration.

CRN is the world-bearer of the Made in Italy, which represents excellence, fusing creativity, design, technology and craftsmanship in single products, and is always tailor-made to the ship owners.

Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN said
: “This is an important moment for the development of our business, because it allows us to reach a market area that is very important for us, especially in the long term. We would like to emphasize that the Ferretti Group has already been present in this region for a long time, it opened an office in Shanghai over 8 years ago and it has a network of competent and trustworthy distributors. It is obvious that China has been an attractive market so far, but it will be more so in the coming years, when the yachting culture will have spread even more. We know that we need to be patient to see significant results.”

“CRN looks ahead to the next events, such as the 50th anniversary and two more launchings this season, a 60 metre and 43 metre, and above all the Monaco Yacht Show in September, where we will present the finished and equipped Chopi Chopi and J’Ade: it will be a decisive milestone for us to reach our clientele, which has become international. Besides the whole of the Asia Pacific, the markets that we are targeting are North, South and Central America, Africa, which is slow but emerging, and obviously the Middle East, as we wait for Europe to recover its share,” concluded Tacoli.

Intermediate Marina Management Course (IMM) to be delivered in Hong Kong

January 30, 2013

This February will be marked by the first delivery of the world renowned Intermediate Marina Management Course (IMM) in Hong Kong. The course is managed by the Marina Industries Association (MIA) under the banner of the Global Marina Institute (GMI).

MIA President Andrew Chapman

MIA President Andrew Chapman

MIA President Andrew Chapman CMM said delivering the course for the first time in Hong Kong was another sign of the development of the marina industries across the region. “Hong Kong has a comparatively mature marina sector with nine marinas operating at high occupancy levels. However with the growth in marina facilities in China and nearby countries we are seeing strong demand for recognised marina training. There is also growing demand from marina staff to embark on a recognised marina career pathway”.

The course will be conducted from 24 – 27 February and includes both theoretical and practical components including site visits to three Hong Kong marinas.

IMM course topics include leadership development; safety and emergency management, operations, maritime law and marketing. Eight registrations have been confirmed to date with strong enquiry from marinas as far afield as New Zealand. Marinas across the region are encouraged to enroll suitable staff in the course noting the next regional IMM course will be held on the Gold Coast Australia in August.

The Hong Kong course follows successful MIA marina training that has been conducted in China and Korea over the past three years. Andrew Chapman said with the emergence of the marina industry across the Asia Pacific region it is important that marina training in the region is internationally recognised and aligned, while also allowing for the nuances of each country to be accommodated. “MIA has strong industry alliances across the region and this is ensuring the roll out of marina training is effectively integrated with the needs of each country while still aligning with global standards”.
