Heesen Yachts deliver SERENITY superyacht

January 25, 2012

Heesen Yachts are happy to announced the delivery of their largest displacement vessel to date – the motor yacht SERENITY. Launched in December, 2011, superyacht SERENITY has undergone intensive testing in the rough water of the North Sea and her delivery has been recently completed.

M/Y Serenity is a 55m milestone in this Dutch Shipyard’s history: Heesen Yachts was already a world leader in the design, engineering and construction of all-aluminium, semi-displacement fast yachts in 1992 when they entered the traditional steel displacement yacht market with the launch of the 50metre motor yacht Achiever in collaboration with Oceanco. Since then they have successfully built 15 long-range full-displacement vessels, confirming their ability in this very competitive field. Their order book currently runs until 2015 and includes three full-displacement vessels.

The elegant exterior lines of the superyacht SERENITY have been drawn by the creative pencil of Frank Laupman and express the typical Heesen style with its ‘pelican beak’ bow – a negative sheer that is their trademark. In-house Heesen naval architects worked closely with Van Oossanen and Associates to create this well-founded hull with a trans-oceanic range of 6,000Nm at 10 knots. Perry van Oossanen, from Van Oossanen and Associates comments: “The hull form of YN 15555, MY Serenity, is the final development of the Heesen displacement hull form, which has already proven itself over the last 10 years. It is a good, comfortable and seaworthy hull, with a well-designed “traditional” flared bow, allowing for a minimum of green water on deck.”

Sea trials in severe weather conditions proved the design’s worth during the month of December 2011. “We had a typical winter sea trial on the North Sea with force 6-7 winds and 3m swells. It was commented by all onboard how well the boat handled in a big sea. She easily exceeded her design speed so overall I am very happy that we will deliver a yacht that will be well suited for world travelling as she was designed for.” Hans Doodkorte, Owner’s technical manager.

Luxury motor yacht Serenity’s contemporary interior, with classic touches, has been designed by Frank Laupman from Omega Architects. High gloss and polished maple with burled maple veneers have been used throughout the vessel for both panelling and cabinetry. Eleven different types of marble, including calacatta marble, Iranian gold onyx, fiorito and breccia paradiso have been carefully and skilfully crafted into concave and convex curves as well as being cut extremely thinly. The use of blond veneer and creamy toned stones combine to give a light and airy feel to the spacious interior. This peaceful and harmonious atmosphere is further enhanced by bespoke glass decorations. A leafy motif has been used for decorating the top of the partition that divides the main saloon into lounging and dining areas, while the ceiling above the bed in the Owner’s stateroom has been re-imagined as a sky adorned with fluffy clouds. The motifs were designed by Omega Architects and created by Glass Déco artisans by gluing together multiple glass and mirror layers. This celestial atmosphere also resonates in the name the Owner has chosen for his vessel.

Twelve guests are amply accommodated in six cabins aboard Serenity yacht. The Owner’s suite is traditionally located on the main deck forward, but its layout is right up-to-date; a vast circular master bedroom boasts balconies on both sides and floor-to-ceiling windows bathing it in light. A studio plus bathroom with a sumptuous central oval bath tub and adjacent shower stall completes the master suite. The lower deck accommodates the guests: the full-beam VIP cabin has a full-sized tub, the two double and two twin cabins have shower rooms. Guests can choose between sun and shade, heat or cool on the sundeck. As well as having sun-bathing pads and a mosaic custom Jacuzzi pool outside, there is also an enclosed spa area complete with steam bath, sauna and massage room.

Mulder Shipyard: Past pedigree, future performance

November 11, 2011

Located at the heart of the premium Dutch yachtbuilding industry just 20 minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Mulder Shipyard has come a long way since its launch in 1938. The family-run business now caters to sophisticated owners all over the world, offering an extensive range of custom-series and fully customised yachts between 18 and 40 metres. And with a second yard now under construction, Mulder’s facilities for both new builds and refits will be truly state of the art.

Covering an area of 7000 square metres, the new Mulder yard is just ten kilometres from the existing facility opened by Dirk Mulder Senior well over six decades ago. From the get-go the Mulder name was recognised as a template for quality in Holland and the yard’s reputation spread worldwide via the classic Super Favorite Cruisers (introduced in the 1960s), the Favorite Superior (1980s) and a wide range of Mulder custom-built motoryachts (1990s onwards).

Today, the yard’s primary focus is on semi-custom displacement and planing yachts in the Favorite, Convertible, Wheelhouse and Flybridge yacht models. Created in partnership with leading designers such as Theo Werner, Vripack and Guido de Groot, Mulder yachts are commissioned by clients as far afield as Russia and New Zealand. All owners know they can rely on an exceptional finish, the finest materials and first class engineering. Mulder yachts all share a long-lasting quality and excellent performance.

“Innovation has been crucial to the Mulder success story,” says managing director Dick Mulder. “A recent example is the ‘Built by Mulder’ concept whereby clients utilise the expertise and craftsmanship to realise their own design for a dream yacht within the standards we apply at the yard. In addition to these one-off projects, the custom-series boats are only built in very limited editions of two or three to ensure an element of exclusivity for owners. With the core design and hull in place, new clients can choose for modified superstructures and customised layouts, equipment and interior. This flexibility enables us to keep average delivery times down to around 18 months.”

Proof positive of the wisdom of this approach is the impressive number of repeat orders Mulder receives from delighted customers. Another key factor is the yard’s partnerships with leading suppliers in the Dutch maritime cluster, which further enhances the inherent quality of a Mulder vessel. Refits are also becoming increasingly popular at Mulder.

Due to open in 2012, the new yard speaks volumes about the confidence with which Mulder sees the future. It will have two halls: The first will be equipped with two dry docks of 55m x 13m, while the second will allow for four yachts up to 30 metres in length to be simultaneously constructed. There will also be a 100-tonne boat lift and a modern office building.

“Although the expansion requires a substantial investment it will eventually lead to major cost synergies,” adds Mulder. “In addition to new builds and refits, this second yard will provide services to our growing global fleet. The original location will focus on the Mulder Favorite and Bellagio, while also being used to store and maintain smaller yachts. When the first yacht is launched at the new yard in 2013, it will be clearer than ever how ready Mulder Shipyard is for the future.”

Heesen Yachts sell 50m explorer motor yacht YN 16750 – A FDHF by Van Oossanen and Associates.

November 02, 2011

Heesen Yachts is proud to announce the sale of YN 16750, a 50 metre explorer motor yacht whose naval architecture is based on the FAST DISPLACEMENT HULL FORM (FDHF) by Van Oossanen and Associates, with an exterior and general arrangement by Frank Laupman from Omega Architects & AB Studio. Motor yacht YN 16750 is an all-aluminium explorer yacht that measures 50 metres in length and weighs below 500GT. The 50m Heesen yacht YN 16750 boasts striking lines and vertical stem, and will be fully custom-built for delivery in 2015.

The revolutionary Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDFH) developed by famous Dutch naval architects Van Oossanen and Associates allows significant improvements in fuel efficiency. Thanks to the FDHF’s low resistance characteristics, the YN 16750 superyacht will reach a maximum speed of 18,5 knots with only two 1.000kW MTUs installed. Therefore, an ocean-crossing range is achieved with minimal fuel capacity. Only 45.000 litres are required to comfortably transit the Atlantic, leaving plenty of reserve.

Perry van Oossanen, naval architect at VOA, comments: “Modest propeller tunnels have been defined allowing for 1,5m diameter propellers. The hull will be fitted with Quantum XT zero-speed fins, and bilge keels, allowing for a maximum reduction in roll angle when at anchor. The design of the hull, the appendages and the propulsion arrangement have been focused on obtaining the best fuel efficiency possible, without sacrificing performance and comfort when running in waves.”

Carrying less fuel also means that the yacht is lighter which further improves efficiency. And the benefits don’t end there; the space saved by having smaller fuel tanks has been reallocated to provide the crew with valuable storage volume under the crew mess.

The Owner commissioned Frank Laupman from Omega Architects & AB Studio to design the exterior and general arrangement of the Heesen 50m yacht YN 16750. Her clean and elegant lines are emphasized by contrasting bands of wraparound glass. To describe the exterior design of YN 16750, AB Studios & Frank Laupman chose the oxymoron “complex simplicity: the lines look like they are running parallel, but in reality they are not! It is all about small adjustments that give the eye the impression of parallelism.”

The YN 16750 supearycht has a cosy and inviting interior décor that will be based on the colour contrast between swamp oak panelling and dark joinery details. The luxury motor yacht YN 16750 will be able to accommodate up to ten guests in five beautifully appointed cabins.  61 square metres are dedicated to the master suite, traditionally located forward on the main deck, which boasts two separate dressing rooms, each with a private ensuite bathroom. The four guest cabins including two VIP and two twin cabins all have ensuite bathrooms and are positioned on the lower deck. Beyond their cabins, guests can enjoy 237 square metres of outdoor living space.

The main and rescue tenders are placed on the fore deck under way, while the toys are stored in the forward garage. This configuration allows the aft part of the yacht to be used as a large (21,5 square metre) beach club equipped with sauna and hammam.

The design of YN 16750 explorer motor yacht proves that high speed cruising can be achieved without sacrificing either luxury or efficiency.

Heesen Motor Yacht Quinta Essentia available for luxury yacht charters in the Mediterranean

The luxury yacht Quinta Essentia was launched at the Heesen shipyard in Oss, The Netherlands on Friday, 11th March 2011. She was built under the hull number YN 14955 and is the largest and one of the most powerful Heesen yachts to be launched to date.

Heesen’s in-house naval architects, in collaboration with Van Oossanen Associates, created the sophisticated and highly efficient hard-chine hull, while Frank Laupman from Omega Architects drew the sleek and elegant exterior lines which are sure to turn heads in any port. The yacht was project managed by Nakhimov.

Yacht Quinta Essentia clearly shows her Heesen pedigree, boasting a pelican beak bow and reverse sheer. The yachts owners, in collaboration with Dobroserdov Design, personally worked on the colour scheme, which features a combination of a custom metallic dark red Awlgrip paint that is combined with oyster white which sets her apart from many of the other charter yachts that will be cruising the Mediterranean waters during the summer.

The inspiration for the dark red tone is taken from Montemaggio Merlot and reflects another of the owner’s passions – fine Tuscan wines. The same colour scheme is repeated on the limousine tender, designed by Vripack and custom built in New Zealand by Vaudrey Miller.

Charter guests onboard M/Y Quinta Essentia will not only be impressed by the stylish exterior profile and space onboard, but also by her futuristic interior in a minimalist style, conceived by interior designer Ken Freivokh and further developed by Michela Reverberi, who was responsible for the detailing and interior decoration.

The extremely attractive and conceptual interior design is modern and futuristic with an intimate atmosphere that is not too stark. The inspiration for Michela Reverberi’s interior design work was ‘Quinta Essentia’ – the fifth element – which is the highest synthesis of the four elements. These four elements – Earth, Water, Air and Fire are represented in the four guests’ cabins, while the owners’ suite with a sliver colour palate synthesizes them all. The 5th element theme of Quinta Essentia yacht is integrated subtly into the design through details, colors and patterns which are displayed against an absolute and pure white background.

From a charterer’s point of view, superyacht Quinta Essentia has a design that offers some notably luxurious features including the largest owner’s suite seen on any Heesen superyacht to date – comparable to those found on yachts of 80m or above. Other special features of the yacht include a sport a tender bay that can be flooded to allow easy launching and recovery of the tenders, a swimming pool on the main deck that is filled by a waterfall. Charterers will also love the gym and spa facilities, including a steam room and a massage room, located on the sun deck.

Motor Yacht Quinta Essentia is powered by twin 4.300kW, MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines, enabling her to reach a notable top speed of 24 knots, quick enough to carry her charter guests in comfort and style along the French or Italian Riviera’s in no time.
