Shimei Bay Marina seeking government support to continue with the next stage of development

May 16, 2013

In order to be able to continue with the next stage of the development, Shimei Bay Marina’s supplier, Poralu Marine, is seeking support from the Chinese government. The marina is located on Hainan Island in China and is waiting for government permits to start the second phase of the construction, including a yacht club and all of its 208 berths.

The first stage of the development was completed in January, with approximately 80 berths for yacht up to 50 metres being installed, as well as a fuelling station and breakwater, capable of protecting the yachts against typhoon conditions that can create waves even 7 metres high.

The Poralu-Asia Marina Consortium needs Chinese government to approve crucial permits to allow foreign yachts to berth, plus allow the developers to continue creating more services. These yacht services will comprise a yacht club and 170 additional berths.

Shimei Bay Marina is amongst a large-scale eco-tropical luxury holiday destinations and its plans also include a 12 square kilometre resort with five star hotels, Le Meridien and Westin, scheduled for completion this November.  In addition, there will be private villas on artificial islands with completion due in the next few years.

In order to attract more luxury yachts and superyachts, it is crucial that the marina completes its next stage of development. Poralu Marine believe that the lack of yachts in its berths (currently around 10) is due to the lack of attractions for the visitors to the marina. According to Poralu, the Chinese government is focusing more on low-class social housing development, proposing affordable activities, instead of promoting the luxury yachting industry. It also pointed out that the industry is still growing, with the new generations enjoying the sea, sailing and other water sports. They also believe that the next decade in the yachting industry will have a new phase, that will include luxury superyachts.

On the occasion of the ninth edition of the Asia Boating Awards, an event organized by Blu Inc. (publishing group of “Asia Pacific Boating” and “China Boating” magazines), important awards were in fact assigned to boats that best represent the style and quality of two of the most prestigious brands of the Group: Azimut Yachts and Benetti.

Benetti Classic Supreme 132 yacht Petrus II was awarded the prize for the “Best Semi Custom Built Yacht” (over 30 meters), while Azimut Magellano 43 yacht was judged the best boat in the “Best Production Motor Yacht” category (up to 15 meters).

The awarding ceremony was held last March 29th, at the opening of the Hainan Rendez-Vous, a reference event in the Asian region for the luxury yachting sector, which has been capable of establishing itself successfully in a period of just four years.

“These awards represent an important sign of appreciation from the Asian market for our products and, in particular, the Chinese one”, says Giovanna Vitelli, Member of the Board of Directors for Azimut|Benetti. “The continued strengthening of the Group’s presence in the territory, together with new projects and boats that were specially created to better respond to local needs in terms of on-board lifestyle, represent commitments that were clearly recognized and that meet full consent.”

The new Benetti Classic Supreme 132 luxury yacht Petrus II is 40.24 metres in length with a maximum width of 8.28 metres. The design was inspired by the need to offer the market a boat that was even more competitive and at the same time that demonstrated Benetti’s constant innovation.

Azimut Magellano 43 yacht is the newest addition to the Azimut Yachts’ Magellano Collection for the 2012-2013 Season. Within 13 meters is a full concentration of the Magellano Collection features: smooth navigation in all conditions, excellent cruising range in a modern and Italian take on the traditional trawler. Destined not only for the high seas but also for inland waters navigation, it is available with two versions: flybridge and with hardtop to meet varying owner’s needs.

Luxury yacht Magellano 43 has a significant cruising range at 9-10 knots but it is ready to perform like a planning boat at any time and it is ready to accelerate and reach top speeds up to 18-22 knots. The boating experience is extremely smooth and comfortable at a range of different speeds thanks to the ‘Dual Mode’ hull, creating a reduction in pitch and a significant reduced impact with waves.

Gulf Craft focusing on Asia with expanded Dealer Footprint and Presence in Region’s Yacht Shows

April 11, 2013

Gulf Craft, a world renowned builder of luxury yachts and fiberglass boats, is strengthening its focus and commitment towards the Asian market through a number of sub-dealer appointments in key South East Asian cities and forging ahead with its presence in the region’s most prominent boat shows, comprising the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show as well as the forthcoming Singapore Yacht Show.

Close on the heels of grabbing the “Best Asia Built Yacht” award for its Majesty 135 superyacht, and its successful participation in the Hainan Rendez-Vous in China as well as Thailand’s Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX), Gulf Craft announced the appointment of new representatives in the region. Pangkor Marina Sendirian Berhad (PMSB) is the new Gulf Craft representative in Malaysia for Gulf Craft’s Silvercraft, Oryx and Majesty Yachts brands, and has been appointed as a sub-dealer to Go Boating Thailand, the yacht builder’s dealer in Phuket, Thailand. Two new sub-dealers have also been appointed in China, with Shanghai Bahrfuss Yacht Sales Co. Ltd., the China dealer for Gulf Craft’s Majesty Yachts range, choosing Master Yachts as the brand’s Hong Kong representative and Dalian Bo Shi Tong Yacht Co. Ltd for the northern Chinese city of Dalian.

“The appointments of the new sub-dealers give Gulf Craft an ever-growing pan-Asian presence and come as part of our commitment to strengthening our position in Asia through setting up a sales and technical support network in the vast market the continent offers,” said Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer, Gulf Craft.

“Gulf Craft is no stranger to the Asian markets and our presence in the various yachting centres of the continent dates back to 1992. With the unabated economic growth that Asia has been experiencing, there is an accompanying double digit growth in the Asian yacht market as well. Our presence in Asia has transformed into recognition throughout the continent as a preeminent builder of superyachts, which is evident in the recent accolade that we won at the Asia Boating Awards.”

The recently concluded Asia Boating Awards held on March 29th in Sanya on Hainan Island, China, honoured Gulf Craft with the “Best Asia Built Yacht” for its new Majesty 135 superyacht, already amongst the most sought after within its portfolio.

“We are totally committed to the Asian market and are participating in the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show from April 11 and the subsequent Singapore Yacht Show from April 18, which will bolster our pan-Asian presence,” Bamps added. “Both shows serve as a continuation of our focus on the Asian market and will be meeting points for our clients from the surrounding areas.”

Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 Hosted Leading Brands of Yachts, Jets and Supercars

April 11, 2013

Last week saw the prestigious Hainan Rendez-Vous continue to support the growth of China’s nascent markets for yachts as well as business jets as the 2013 edition of the event achieved significant on-site transactions, comprising the sales of twenty-nine yachts and three business jets.

Hainan Rendevous

With over 13,000 VIP guests from all around China among the 23,000+ people who attended, the show also gave another lift to the local Sanya economy, while further elevating the city’s image as an emerging hub for the international yachting community.

“The economic impact of the sale of a yacht or business jet goes far beyond the manufacture of the craft,” said show founder Delphine Lignieres. “Large ships and planes require crews of trained people to maintain and operate, as well as the construction of essential infrastructure. The sale of yachts and jets at Hainan Rendez-Vous is helping to drive the development of all these associated industries in China, which creates many jobs. As a yachting hub, Sanya definitely benefits.”

Hainan Rendez-Vous this year reached a new level of prestige in terms of quality of exhibitors and partners. A ten-person delegation from the Monaco Yacht Club arrived to promote the Principality as the world’s capital of yachting. The French government again sent a strong delegation representing some of the country’s most exclusive lifestyle brands, housing them in a special pavilion with an 8-metre replica of the Eiffel tower located right in the centre.

The return of all the world’s leading makers of business jets was a further signal of the show’s solid international reputation. Aviation brands exhibited their aircraft at Sanya Phoenix International Airport, where a new VIP terminal enhanced the show experience for guests.

Top shipyards from Europe and America likewise returned with an amazing fleet of 130 vessels, including seven boats between 30 and 50 meters long. The more than two hundred companies housed in exhibition booths at the main show fairgrounds included leading superyacht and megayacht builders like Luerssen, Oceanco, Blohm+Voss, Royal Huisman, Feadship and Abeking & Rasmussen.

Also fabulous at Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 was the lineup of supercar brands, which included McLaren exhibiting its new model, the McLaren P1, for its launch in Asia. The elite brand celebrated the occasion with a glamorous gala dinner for over 200 highly targeted guests, followed by an after party aboard the largest yacht at the show, the Sapphire.

McLaren’s supercars were joined at the exhibition by the stylish vehicles of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls Royce and Lamborghini, forming a collection that truly showcased the genius of automobile design at its very best.

As in past Rendev-Vous editions, a rich program of cultural and networking events ran in tandem with the yacht, jet and lifestyle shows. Events included a fascinating art exhibition led by Art Labor Gallery that was titled “Jardin d’ Art” (Garden of Art), with contemporary works exploring the theme of the garden. Newly added events this year included the inaugural Ballantine’s Sanya Golf Team Trophy, a golf tournament for 36 teams of 4 players each, and a special lunch for CEOs from the boat and jet industries that was sponsored by Pernod Ricard.

Chopard, the renowned Swiss watch and jewellery maker whose pieces regularly beautify celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival and similar events in the west, demonstrated its love for China by exhibiting an exceedingly rare 31.32-carat chameleon diamond ring at the show. Chopard brought Hainan Rendez-Vous 2013 to a close on an elegant note, hosting a gala dinner with performances by renowned Hong Kong actress and singer/songwriter Karen Mok, along with a show of stunning models wearing the iconic brand’s sparkling gems and timepieces.

Two Mangusta Yachts sold by Overmarine Group

April 09, 2013

The Overmarine Group participated in the recent Hainan Rendez-Vous in Sanya, China, with new partner Martello Yachting. The boat show was an opportunity to announce the sale of two luxury vessels: another 50 metre flagship from the Mangusta 165 yacht range and hull no. 30 of the Mangusta 108 yacht model. This is yet another confirmation of the success as well as strong presence of the Mangusta brand on the world panorama of luxury yachts.

“Just a few months after the sale of the eighth unit, the contract has been signed for Mangusta 165 number nine!” Francesco Frediani, Commercial Director of the Group, proudly declared.

Since 2007, the year in which it was presented, this model has become an icon of and reference point on the world panorama: 9 units sold in fewer than 6 years tell of both how extraordinary and unique this Maxi Open Yacht is and the pride of a Group which has known how to look ahead and invest over the past few years.

Measuring 50 metres in length and with a top speed of 40 knots, Mangusta 165 (example is charter yacht Zeus) is the fastest composite Maxi Open Yacht ever to be built. Unrivalled in terms of comfort, too, the volumes can be compared with those of a three deck yacht of the same size, something entirely unsuspected from the outside owing to her pure lines and sporty profile.

Mangusta 108 (example is charter yacht Four Friends) is the perfect fusion of high technology, spacious interiors and painstaking care over detail. Her racy, decisive lines, excellent seaworthiness, the absence of vibrations and noise, spacious interiors and a rich layout of innovative solutions represent the Mangusta philosophy perfectly.

The style of the interiors is the result of perfect harmony between the owner’s wishes and the skill of the Overmarine Group’s Design Department, and is modern, topical and contemporary and created with highly-sought after materials. On the main deck, the salon can easily be turned into a dining-room where guests can enjoy dinner whilst gazing at the stars through the sliding sunroof. On the lower deck, there are 4 comfortable cabins, all with en-suite heads, including a master suite with a study. Externally, there is an important new feature: a large sundeck where those aboard can sunbathe and relax in complete privacy.

A sales success which comes from the seriousness and solidity of a family, the Balduccis, which has been building yachts of over 30 years, coupled with the skill the Overmarine Group team has of anticipating market demand and creating products which correspond perfectly to owners’ wishes.

Sunseeker awarded ‘Best Brand Presence in Asia’ at Asia Boating Awards 2013

April 08, 2013

The prominent UK luxury yacht builder, Sunseeker, is thrilled to announce that it has been honoured with the ‘Best Brand Presence in Asia’ title at the recently running Asia Boating Awards.

Sunseeker-logo

The Asia Boating Awards recognise the very best in the maritime industry, not only throughout Asia but also on an international level. In its ninth year, the awards are the benchmark for the industry so it is great achievement for Sunseeker to be awarded this accolade.

Stewart McIntyre, managing director at Sunseeker, comments: “This recent award win is fantastic news and we couldn’t be happier to win the award for ‘Best Brand Presence in Asia’ as we faced some stiff competition in the category. Asia is a fast moving and rapidly changing market place, so to be recognised as having such a strong presence is a great testament to the work that the entire Sunseeker team has been doing throughout Asia to build and strengthen our brand awareness.  This is great way to end the first quarter of 2013 and we hope that the rest of the year proves to be just as successful.”

The awards ceremony, which was held on 29 March, proved to be the perfect opening to the Hainan Rendezvous, which launched the following day. Not only did Sunseeker scoop the ‘Best Brand Presence in Asia’ award but it also had a fantastic few days at the Boat Show with some of its star yachts such as the Sunseeker 80 Yacht (example is charter yacht Jeel II) and 88 Yacht (example is charter yacht Gatsby) on display.

Ferretti 690 Yacht voted ‘Best Production Motor Yacht’ at Asia Pacific Boating Awards 2013

April 08, 2013

Ferretti Group’s yachts were in the spotlight at this year’s edition of the prominent Asia Pacific Boating Awards, organized by the Blu Inc publishing group, the publisher of boating magazines “Asia Pacific Boating” and “China Boating”. Among the awards assigned by a jury of experts to the best international and local boating companies as well as groups on the Asian continent, the Ferretti 690 yacht was awarded “Best Production Motor Yacht” in the category 15-24 metres. The ceremony took place on 29th March, on the eve of the opening of the fourth Hainan Rendez-Vous, the exclusive Chinese luxury show, which the Ferretti Group participated in, exhibiting as many as six yachts of its fleet.

“Receiving such an important acknowledgement just at the beginning of one of the leading shows not only in China but on the entire Asian continent is extremely significant for our Group – stated Alessandro Tirelli, Ferretti Group Asia Pacific Sales Director. This award bears witness to the value of our products as symbols of Italian excellence in the world. We were particularly pleased that the winner was the Ferretti 690, one of the most successful new models in the 2012-2013 nautical year: this yacht is indeed meeting with great success at an international level, as proven once more by this important award in the Asia Pacific region, which is for us a strategic market offering very interesting perspectives”.

Ferretti 690
The Ferretti 690 yacht, which was presented as a world premiere at the Festival de la Plaisance 2012 in Cannes, marks a significant step forward for the Ferretti Yachts fleet under 70 feet in length: the outer lines have indeed been extensively redesigned, leading to a sportier and even sleeker profile.

The extensive use of glazed surfaces, in particular, makes the yacht’s exterior look lighter and ensures that plenty of natural light can brighten its interiors. Its sleek outer lines are further enhanced by the innovative flybridge, characterised by an elongated tail.

The interiors of the luxury yacht Ferretti 690 – which is available in two layouts, with three or four underdeck cabins – are spacious and wisely arranged, in order to exploit living areas to the fullest. One of the most impressive and innovative solutions on this yacht is a collapsible bracket in the swimming platform which allows the latter to be lowered just below the sea surface – a solution that on the one hand makes lowering and launching the tender far easier and on the other offers onboard guests a unique “seat” just below the water level, allowing them to relax and enjoy the sea to the fullest.

This year’s awards for Best Custom Built Yacht and Best Semi Custom Built Yacht went to Lürssen and Benetti, respectively. As Asian buyers have snapped up large production yachts in the 100-foot fiberglass category, strong industry interest in the Best Production Motor Yacht 24m-to-40m class has grown. Princess Yachts of the UK walked off with this prize for their highly regarded Princess 40M yacht Imperial Princess. Ferretti Yachts of Italy were very pleased with their victory in the Best Production Motor Yacht 15m-to-24m class with their newly released F690, a fiiting reward for all the firm’s recent efforts in ramping up its Asian operations.
