Gulf Craft focusing on Asia with expanded Dealer Footprint and Presence in Region’s Yacht Shows

April 11, 2013

Gulf Craft, a world renowned builder of luxury yachts and fiberglass boats, is strengthening its focus and commitment towards the Asian market through a number of sub-dealer appointments in key South East Asian cities and forging ahead with its presence in the region’s most prominent boat shows, comprising the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show as well as the forthcoming Singapore Yacht Show.

Close on the heels of grabbing the “Best Asia Built Yacht” award for its Majesty 135 superyacht, and its successful participation in the Hainan Rendez-Vous in China as well as Thailand’s Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX), Gulf Craft announced the appointment of new representatives in the region. Pangkor Marina Sendirian Berhad (PMSB) is the new Gulf Craft representative in Malaysia for Gulf Craft’s Silvercraft, Oryx and Majesty Yachts brands, and has been appointed as a sub-dealer to Go Boating Thailand, the yacht builder’s dealer in Phuket, Thailand. Two new sub-dealers have also been appointed in China, with Shanghai Bahrfuss Yacht Sales Co. Ltd., the China dealer for Gulf Craft’s Majesty Yachts range, choosing Master Yachts as the brand’s Hong Kong representative and Dalian Bo Shi Tong Yacht Co. Ltd for the northern Chinese city of Dalian.

“The appointments of the new sub-dealers give Gulf Craft an ever-growing pan-Asian presence and come as part of our commitment to strengthening our position in Asia through setting up a sales and technical support network in the vast market the continent offers,” said Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer, Gulf Craft.

“Gulf Craft is no stranger to the Asian markets and our presence in the various yachting centres of the continent dates back to 1992. With the unabated economic growth that Asia has been experiencing, there is an accompanying double digit growth in the Asian yacht market as well. Our presence in Asia has transformed into recognition throughout the continent as a preeminent builder of superyachts, which is evident in the recent accolade that we won at the Asia Boating Awards.”

The recently concluded Asia Boating Awards held on March 29th in Sanya on Hainan Island, China, honoured Gulf Craft with the “Best Asia Built Yacht” for its new Majesty 135 superyacht, already amongst the most sought after within its portfolio.

“We are totally committed to the Asian market and are participating in the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show from April 11 and the subsequent Singapore Yacht Show from April 18, which will bolster our pan-Asian presence,” Bamps added. “Both shows serve as a continuation of our focus on the Asian market and will be meeting points for our clients from the surrounding areas.”

Taken place at the fabulous Intercontinental Hotel Serenity Coast Resort on March 29, the 9th edition of the Asia Boating Awards, jointly organised by Asia-Pacific Boating as well as China Boating, once again honoured the best of yachting in Asia and in the world. The event was held the evening before the start of one of Asia’s brightest boat shows, the Hainan Rendezvous, held every year in Sanya. The Hainan show has quickly grown into one of the landmark luxury yachting events in Asia and in only four years is now well known to the world’s most prestigious yacht brands.

The Hainan Rendezvous showcases international yachting brandnames, as well as Asia-based builders, which perfectly matches the aim of the awards. “The Asia Boating Awards are unique in that they bring together international and Asian yacht builders, industry insiders and HNWIs from around the region in one gala ceremony. No other event in the world does this in the way we do,” said Ryan Swift, Editor in Chief of Asia-Pacific Boating magazine, which co-organises the event.

Wang Xinlei, Editor-in-Chief of China Boating, said: “I’m very pleased to see so many good friends here tonight. The tremendous support from boat owners and international yachting industry leaders reaffirms China Boating and Asia-Pacific Boating as the premiere luxury yachting magazines in Asia.”

Taiwan’s Horizon Yachts and Hong Kong’s Kingship were again acknowledged as Asia’s top yacht builders, while the Best Asian Built Yacht, the most sought-after award by Asian yards, went to Gulf Craft’s motor yacht Majesty 135, a first for the UAE builder.

This year’s awards for Best Custom Built Yacht and Best Semi Custom Built Yacht went to Lürssen and Benetti, respectively. Both yards have been very busy over the past year with superyacht launches and the German-based builder has just launched the world’s largest superyacht, the 184-metre mega yacht Project Azzam.

As Asian buyers have snapped up large production yachts in the 100-foot fiberglass category, strong industry interest in the Best Production Motor Yacht 24m-to-40m class has grown. Princess Yachts of the UK walked off with this prize for their highly regarded Princess 40M yacht Imperial Princess. Ferretti Yachts of Italy were very pleased with their victory in the Best Production Motor Yacht 15m-to-24m class with their newly released F690, a fiiting reward for all the firm’s recent efforts in ramping up its Asian operations.

Azimut Yachts, possibly the world’s biggest production yacht builder, has been revamping its range, especially with its long-range cruising Magellano series. The judges duly took note of, giving the nod to the Magellano 43 as Best Production Motor Yacht of up to 15 metres.

In the sailing categories, the Jeanneau 509 was voted the Best Production Sailing Yacht of 15 to 30 metres while the Beneteau Sense 46 claimed Best Production Sailing Yacht of up to 15 metres. For yacht design, the judges were notably impressed with the Marquis 630 designed by Nuvolari Lenard. Ker Yacht Design, which has been working closely with the Zhuhai-based production team of McConaghy Boats and helping them produce a range of one-design speed machines, was awarded Best Yacht Designer in Asia of the Year.

Asia yacht industry veteran Mike Simpson, who founded the firm that bears his name, was recognized by the judges as Personality of the Year, for his many years of effort in growing the yachting market in Asia.

Many industry VIPs were in attendance at the black tie gala dinner, as were numerous guests of honour, including: Feng Hui, Ge Wei Dong, Chen Wei Jing, Hu Bing, Chun Ni, Mo Xiao Qi and many more.

The event, which saw the sale of two Majesty Yachts, was Gulf Craft’s second exclusive display in Qatar in as many years. The preview featured the Qatari premiere of the new superyacht Majesty 125 – Gulf Craft’s third-largest superyacht model – and the brand new motor yacht Majesty 105, which has already garnered rave reviews at the recently concluded Dubai International Boat Show 2013. Also on display were other popular Gulf Craft models including the Majesty 63, the Majesty 70 and Majesty 77.

“We were delighted by the fantastic response to our Majesty Yacht range in Qatar. We sold two Majesty Yachts during the event, which is a result of the strong relationship we have with our clientele in Qatar – a country which has a traditional affinity for the sea and a culture of yachting,” said Mohamed Hussain AlShaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft. “In fact, the Qatari market has been making up nearly 20% of our revenues recently and our customers there appreciate the finer aspects of yacht-building. It is always a pleasure to showcase our range in Doha as customers not only appreciate sailing and cruising as a recreational activity, but also have a connoisseur’s eye for well-engineered yachts built to a high finishing standard.”

Speaking about the response to the preview and the Qatari market, Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer for Gulf Craft, said: “It was heartening to see the level of interest in our Majesty Yachts range among Qataris, however, it was not a surprise. We are market leaders in Qatar and already have a large number of vessels of all dimensions berthed in Doha’s marinas – and this number increased further during the event with the sale of two Majesty Yachts. Our dealers in this market ensure that Gulf Craft’s Qatari customers get the best in terms of service and technical support. The ‘Majesty Yachts Exclusive Preview’ is our way of being close to our customers here and to show our commitment to the Qatari market.”

Launched in 2012, the Majesty 135 yacht is Gulf Craft’s second-largest superyacht design and in just one year has proved to be amongst the most sought after within its portfolio.

“The Majesty 135 has already made waves in the French Riviera and in the Middle East; being awarded this recognition in Asia is a firm testament to the universal appeal of Gulf Craft’s designs,” said Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer, Gulf Craft.

“The Majesty 135 brings together comfortable and luxurious living areas, exceptionally large entertaining space both indoors and outdoors, and a striking exterior and is one of the most exciting designs to come out of the Gulf Craft shipyard in recent years.”

The premier Middle Eastern builder, Gulf Craft, has returned to the fabulous yacht charter destination – Doha, with its second exclusive display of Superyachts as well as yachts for the Qatari market in as many years. The event marks the Qatari premiere of the new motor yacht Majesty 125 – Gulf Craft’s third-largest superyacht model, and a brand new Majesty 105 yacht – a revolutionary superyacht model that received high praise for its excellent outdoor entertainment capabilities at the recently concluded Dubai International Boat Show 2013, and at last year’s Dubai edition where the model was launched.

The yacht line-up also features other popular Gulf Craft models including the Majesty 56, Majesty 63 and the Majesty 70 yacht.

Qatar is a market that is highly boating oriented and a booming one for Gulf Craft. We have delivered a number of yachts and superyachts to Qatar in recent years, a development which has coincided with the number of new marinas that have come online in the country,” says Mohamed Hussain AlShaali, Chairman of Gulf Craft.

“There is a high interest in larger-sized yachts, to almost the same degree as in the UAE. We consider Qatar a home market and following the interest received at the Dubai Boat Show, we were keen to showcase some of our most popular models to the Qataris on their home turf,” he added. “We presented a similar showcase in late 2011 which was very positively met and indicated a very strong interest in what we bring to the market.”

Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer, added: “The appetite for larger yachts in the Gulf market has progressed in line with Gulf Craft’s own inroads into the global superyacht industry. We have completed 7 superyachts above 30m in the past year alone, a significant slice of the international pie considering the global superyacht order deliveries in 2012 stood at only just over 200 yachts.”

He continued: “As the leader in the boat and yachting market in Qatar, we are strongly committed to this market and have strong dealer partnerships that ensure that our clients are fully supported in terms of technical support and maintenance.“

Visitors to the Majesty Yachts Exclusive Preview are able to tour the superyachts on display from 4pm – 10pm, March 28th-30th, with a special “Ladies Only” viewing arranged for the morning of March 30th from 10am – 3pm.

Gulf Craft to attend PIMEX 2013

March 21, 2013

Gulf Craft, a premier builder of luxury yachts as well as fiberglass boats, will be present at the Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) from March 21 to 24, displaying a series of craft across its range of family and fishing craft, sport cruisers and fly-bridge motor yachts.

pimex-international-boat-show-march-2013

A highlight of the show will be the regional debut of three Silvercraft yacht models including the Silvercraft  34, 36 HT and 38 CC.

According to Erwin Bamps, Chief Operating Officer Gulf Craft, interest in small pleasure cruisers and family fishing boats in the South East Asian market continues to swell.

“PIMEX is a very important platform for the showcase of new models for the South East Asian region as the show brings together serious clients from across Thailand as well as Malaysia, China, Vietnam and Indonesia. The South East Asian boating market continues to be driven by demand for smaller pleasure cruisers and family fishing boats and our new Silvercraft models answer a desire for both form and function – with spacious yet stylish layouts,” said Bamps.

Tony Nixey, owner and managing director of Go Boating Thailand Co Ltd – distributor of Gulf Craft’s range of boats and yachts in Thailand, added, “We have been exhibiting Gulf Craft products at PIMEX every year and although competition is huge, we are one of the six main players in Thailand, where the PIMEX event helps us to maintain our strong presence in the market.”

He added that the market is starting to mature as seasoned seafarers begin to upgrade their vessels in terms of size and comfort. “In addition to being home to some of the best cruising grounds in the world, Phuket has now firmly established itself on the superyacht cruising map and this has helped attract more and larger vessels to the region. With PIMEX taking place this month and two shows in Singapore next month, the boat show season has definitely arrived in South East Asia and it’s buzzing with boating activity,” Nixey added.

Gulf Craft has had a long and strong presence in South East Asian waters extending back to 1992. Since 2005, the company has seen healthy sales across its range of Oryx sport cruisers, Silvercraft fishing and family boats and Majesty Yachts. Gulf Craft has in recent years also witnessed growing interest in its premium yacht brand Majesty Yachts with superyacht Majesty 88 and Majesty 56 yacht particularly being in the spotlight.
