In April 2011 the German shipyard Nobiskrug delivered its Project No. 781, Superyacht “Sapphire” to her Owners – right on time to enjoy the summer season. This high-end yacht with a length of 74 m was built by Nobiskrug with an exterior and interior design by Newcruise Yacht Projects & Design. The enormous sun deck offers a big Jacuzzi and a bar forward. Large raised sunbathing platforms as well as an outside cinema invite for relaxation. Particularly at night it looks spectacular when the bar and other outer deck furniture are lit by integrated lighting. These special illumination effects are throughout the whole exterior of the yacht.

Following the design concept of superyacht ‘Sapphire’, the circular aft main deck can be either a helicopter platform or a dance-floor for cheerful celebrations. Also it can be used as a balcony, which extends over the sea and in combination with the huge bathing platform on the lower deck the arrangement creates a lovely split-level beach club area.

The main saloon of this impressive superyacht is decorated with black Zebrano floorboards, bleached and burr maple furniture and white horsehair covered panelling. Full height windows present a marvellous uninterrupted view over the ocean.

The Owner’s suite leads to a dressing room with two adjacent bathrooms – for him and her. Next to the suite is a sizable private office. The contemporary and purist design is continued in the VIP cabin and the four guest cabins. Particular attention has been paid to an efficient engineering. “Sapphire” achieves a maximum speed of 17.3 knots by two MTU main engines with 1,760 kW each.

April 22, 2011

Sad news comes from the superyacht builder Abeking & Rasmussen that Hermann H. Schaedla died suddenly aged 76 on the 18th April 2011. For more than 50 years, Hermann H. Under his responsible and intelligent management, the small shipyard in Lemwerder evolved into one of the major, world famous names in the field of superyacht and naval shipbuilding.

Hermann H. Schaedla of superyacht builder Abeking & Rasmussen dies

Hermann Schaedla grew up in California but was soon drawn back to Germany as the country where he could achieve his goal of becoming a shipbuilder. But he actually achieved far more. In 1959, at the age of just 24, he took over the shipyard from his grandfather and company founder Henry Rasmussen. From then on, he repeatedly succeeded in transforming his visions of extraordinary, unique ships into reality. To begin with, it was sailing ships, later motor yachts and vessels for the naval and public sector that created a sensation the world over and laid the foundations for the excellent reputation of Abeking & Rasmussen. For many decades, Hermann Schaedla was the personification of that success. A man whose personality, unflagging commitment and immense enthusiasm for all things maritime set new standards in the shipbuilding world.

His death means a painful loss for all the members of his family, his employees and everyone who accompanied him over the years. They will cherish fond memories of Hermann Schaedla’s energy, vigour and visionary work and keep them alive as inspiration and motivation.

“He was one of the giants,” Bob Saxon, president of the International Superyacht Society, says. Hermann Schaedla was a man who set new standards and influenced an entire industry with his personality, dedication and sheer pleasure in all things maritime. In fact, it was this very enthusiasm that led a jury of his peers to present him with the International Superyacht Society Annual Leadership Award in 2002.”

Daimler AG and Rolls-Royce launch public tender offer for Tognum AG

April 07, 2011

Daimler AG and Rolls-Royce Group plc today launched their voluntary public offer for the majority of Tognum AG through their 50:50 joint venture Engine Holding GmbH. Further to the announcement issued on March 9, 2011 the offer document has been approved by the Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin).

From today, shareholders can accept the offer and tender their shares in Tognum AG. Acceptance of the offer must be declared in writing to the custodian bank. The acceptance period will expire on May 18, 2011 at 24:00 hrs (local time Frankfurt am Main)/18:00 hrs (local time New York). UniCredit Bank, Munich will act as settlement agent with regard to the tender offer.

As announced on March 9, 2011 shareholders will receive €24 for each tendered share in Tognum AG. The price offered is highly attractive and represents a significant premium of approximately 30 per cent above the XETRA closing price of Tognum AG shares on Friday March 4, 2011, the last undisturbed trading day before rumours of an offer emerged.

Shareholders who tender their shares will retain their right to the dividend for the financial year 2010. The proposed dividend of €0,50 per share is subject to approval by Tognum’s Annual General Meeting, which takes place on May 11, 2011, one week before the offer closes.

The offer is made, inter alia, subject to a minimum acceptance threshold of at least 50 per cent plus one share of the share capital of Tognum AG at the time of expiry of the acceptance period as well as certain regulatory approvals. Daimler already holds a very significant stake of 28.4 per cent of Tognum AG, which will be tendered at the offer price.

Under the joint ownership of Daimler and Rolls-Royce, Tognum will be well-positioned as a global leader in the Marine, Distributed Power Generation, Offshore Oil & Gas and Industrial applications markets establishing a strong platform for future growth in a global market worth more than €30 billion a year. The partners intend to maintain the current manufacturing sites and are confident that the growth strategy will secure jobs and lead to further opportunities. In addition to significantly strengthening Tognum’s future competitiveness, and broadening the product range, systems and service capabilities, the combination also enhances the company’s access to emerging markets.

There are 5 Solstice class of ships by Celebrity Cruises’ including Celebrity Reflection, Celebrity Silhouette, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Equinox.

Celebrity Reflection will present all the new venues, in addition to the line’s first AquaClass suites, expanding on Celebrity’s in-demand, spa-inspired AquaClass stateroom accommodations. The distinctive new experiences will join the diverse array of other modern venues and attributes already associated with Celebrity’s Solstice Class ships.

The Celebrity Reflection Cruise Ship will have all of the same venue and dining changes as the Celebrity Silhouette Cruise Ship. In addition, the Cruise Ship will have an additional deck of 72 cabins and suites including 34 new AquaSpa suites, 8 sky suites, 19 concierge class cabins, and 11 inside cabins. The extra space over 17 decks adds 4 tons to the ship’s size, making the Celebrity Reflection 126,000 tons, compared to the 122,000 on the other four ships.

Adding the additional beam allows Celebrity Cruises’ to slightly expand some of the existing rooms such as the theatre which will boast 45 new seats and the dining venues. The larger outdoor decks will accommodate 245 more sun lounges.

Estimated Media Impact Value of the 2010 Audi MedCup grows by 65,6% year on year since 2009.

March 29, 2011

Sport+Markt, one of the leading sports research and consultancy companies, have concluded their research and evaluation of the 2010 Audi MedCup Circuit with a result that ascertains the world’s leading regatta circuit returned 41,1 million euros in terms of media impact over the course of the year.

The study was focused primarily in six countries, United Kingdom, Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Portugal, which are considered key target markets by World Sailing Management, the marine division of Grupo Santa Mónica Sports.

Even giving consideration to the economic uncertainty, the Audi MedCup Circuit improved on the estimated media impact value of 24,9 million euros in 2009, 2010 still showing significant growth; Sport+Markt´s most recent study details a 65,6% upturn over the equivalent time-span of 2009.

The Audi Med Cup circuit´s constant desire to improve the overall product, as well as the continuous effort to keep developing and refining the communication strategies and technology-driven package for the global audience, has spurred the increased media return.

The Advertisement Value Equivalent (AVE) from TV exposure increased by three million euros, to a total of 19,3 million euros, compared with the 16,2 million mark reached in 2009.

The figure has virtually doubled since the AVE audit of 2008, which returned 10,2 million euros, exceeding the event´s own expectations, as Fernando Íñigo, Marketing and Communication Director of Grupo Santa Mónica Sports, comments:

“Our goal last year was to increase our media impact by 10% globally and by 30% in some specific markets. Having grown by 65% on the previous year´s campaign is the result of our drive to be in the vanguard of technology, especially when talking about the audio-visual field, where we have aimed to bring new communication tools to the wider public”.

The countries which offered more TV coverage of the Audi MedCup Circuit in 2010 were, in order of importance, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom and Portugal. Also, the study shows supplementary returns in countries that are not considered as much target markets for the Circuit.

“Last year, we had a great impact in Argentina and New Zealand, in no small way due to teams such Matador and Emirates Team New Zealand being successful on the Circuit”, notes Ignaci Triay, Audi MedCup Circuit Director, “ and the fact that we had well-known stars of the sailing world such as Dean Barker or Ray Davies, great skippers and sailors, who come from these countries”.

Media presence

Media content regarding the Audi MedCup Circuit has also increased across the different platforms. The 2009 campaign registered a total of 1.201 published articles, and 2010 reached a higher number: 1.437, with an equivalent value of 7,3 million euros.

Some of the most important international written press publications -both general and specialized- such as Le Figaro and L´Equipe (Francia), The Sunday Telegraph and The Times (United Kingdom), ABC, MARCA, La Vanguardia and El Mundo Deportivo (Spain), published articles about the circuit on their pages.

A total of 546 international journalists from 11 different countries were accredited to work over the regattas, a clear reflection of the circuit´s international reach over recent years.

Live TV

Live transmission of the circuit´s regattas through the new Audi MedCup TV platform, built in www.medcup.org, started out in 2010 among some of the innovations that developed such a significant media impact. With this initiative, the circuit has become a prime example of the use of the latest technologies for the transmission of this type of racing, an initiative that was also supported by an improved Virtual Eye technology that allows viewers to follow the regatta in 3D with a level of realism that has never seen before.

Another innovation which brought great success from the media, teams, guests and sponsors was the addition of the Crew+ initiative, a project that allowed one person to be on board in each and one of the boats during the regatta, experiencing the race in person, something that few other sports can claim to offer.

Also, the Audi MedCup Circuit consolidated its complete on-shore programme of activities which make the public´s involvement with the events so successful. In 2010 this included the Public Village, a free entrance zone with a wide range of activities designed to make the event even more exciting and engaging for the local visitor, registering a total attendance of over half a million people. Interactive games and infotainment -information – entertainment-, sailing-related games, a huge TV screen or live music shows were some of the attractiont that its visitors enjoyed in 2010.

The Audi MedCup Circuit is the world’s leading regatta circuit.

The Circuit is made up of five events that take place over five months in four countries over southern Europe.

The Drettmann Motor Yachts (DMY) boasts both a  spacious interior and a sleek silhouette with a dynamic gracefulness. Some of the novel features that a DMY can offer are equally impressive: whether a large beach area at the stern, a bathing platform or a saloon which is open on three sides, all afford more space for the ultimate yachting experience. A t this stage the range consists of four models with lengths between 20 and 37 metres.
