The Best Diving Spots Off Your Luxury Yacht

November 18, 2016

Written by Maria Korotaeva

Need some inspiration on planning a holiday? Explore the world beneath you on a luxury yacht charter voyage! Put world-class diving destinations at the very top of your yachting itinerary. Don’t forget to pack your diving camera. There’s everything from fascinating shipwrecks to kaleidoscope coral reefs, exotic marine life to underwater caves. Onboard a luxurious superyacht benefit from the skills of an expert diving instructor or if you’re experienced, do it alone and jump in from the yacht deck.

1. Virgin Islands – if exploring shipwrecks is your thing, then the Virgin Islands ticks all the right boxes. The sleepy Virgin Gorda Island is home to one of the most famous diving sites in the Caribbean, the wreck of the HMS Rhone, located off Salt Island. Many enthusiastic divers plan their entire yachting vacation around a trip to this famous site which has been in existence since 1867 when the Royal Mail steamer sank during a hurricane. What an adventure! If you love the spirit of sailing superyachts then Maltese Falcon for charter is an ideal option. Full selection on charter yacht available in the Caribbean you can check here.

2. MexicoMexico has a number of awe-inspiring dive sites which warrant a visit in their own right. Set sail for the coastal town of Playa del Carmen close to the Yucatan Peninsula. The majestic limestone bedrock is riddled with fresh water-filled skin holes called centos some of which are 14m deep. Explore the underwater caves, a true labyrinth for divers. Visit the Baja Peninsula close to Santa Rosalia and Espiritu Santos. You may be lucky enough to see the giant Humboldt squid which can grow up to almost 2m in length – wow! Why not charter the superyacht Mamma Mia for your next holiday

3. The Great Barrier Reef, Australia – no top ten diving spots would be complete without the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Considered as one of the natural Seven Wonders of the World, this underwater paradise is a fantastic diving destination from top to bottom, a perfect site for divers of all levels. Get your diving gear ready to explore the Coral Sea with visibility of almost 60m making it ideal for spotting sea snakes and sharks at a distance. It has the world’s largest collection of corals, sponges, molluscs, rays and dolphins. CharterWorld offers a large selection of luxury superyacht for charter in the area, for example the stunning motor yacht True North.

4. Vanuatu – like many regions in the South Pacific, Vanuatu is home to exciting diving spots. There’s the mighty shipwreck, SS President Coolidge, located off the coast of Espiritu Santo. This 22,000 tonne ship sank fully laden with war machinery during World War II just off the beach. For something a little different, how about diving around Tongoa and Million Dollar Point? It’s a great opportunity to explore the edge of a live volcano, how exciting will that be? The best way to reach all the islands of Vanuatu is on your own charter yacht, which CharterWorld can assist you with.

5. Rangiroa, French Polynesia – approximately 400 kms from Tahiti are the incredible islands of the Tuamotu Archipelago. They include a string of coral that encircles a luminous lagoon known as Rangiroa, the second largest atoll in the world. With more than 240 tiny islets over a 177 kms, it’s not surprising that this is one of the world’s most intriguing and diverse diving spots – awesome.

6. Egyptian Red Sea – the Egyptian Red Sea is ranked as one of the world’s best diving spots and a great destination for a luxury yacht charter with good reason. The eastern edge of the Sahara supports one of the most spectacular dive sites. Separated naturally from the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea has developed an individual reef system like no other. Diving, scuba diving and snorkeling are very popular water activities here so make the Egyptian Red Sea part of your yacht charter itinerary.

7. The Maldives – the best diving spots in the Indian Ocean can be found in the glorious tropical paradise of the Maldives. The channels here are full of caves, caverns and overhangs that hide soft corals, colorful sponges and unique invertebrates. There are plenty of sites to explore in this amazing region. Away from the reefs, you may be lucky enough to spot manta rays, eagle rays or different species of sharks. A yacht charter is the perfect way to enjoy the various adventures that diving sites offer.

8. Cayman Islands – these islands are a group of three islands all of which offer world class diving. Although Grand Cayman is the most established diving destination, for a more relaxed but equally as enthralling, there’s Little Cayman and for the daring, on the northern shore, Bloody Bay Wall and Jackson Point. These are sheer coral cliffs dropping 2,000m into a submarine trench. Many divers consider this to be the finest wall diving in the Caribbean. Some of the best luxury charter yachts will be cruising in the waters of the Caribbean this winter, and are available for charter!

9. Sipadan Island, Malaysian Borneo – one of the more secluded diving spots can be found off Sipadan Island in the South China Sea. This island is less than an hour’s sail from the mainland, so it shouldn’t take your skipper long to get there. It’s an unbelievable magnet for studying fish from barracuda to horse-eye jacks as well as stunning green turtles which are accustomed to the presence of divers. At South Point you may encounter reef sharks, huge schools of trevally along with herds of parrot fish.

10. Surin and Similan Islands, ThailandThailand’s best diving spots can be found in the Andaman Sea. There are fabulous diving sites like Hin Daeng (Red Rock) and Hin Mouang (Purple Rock) in the south west, off the Surin and Similan Islands. The Surin Islands are also home to Richelieu Rock, a 30m dive famous for shark sightings and giant schools of fish. There are many wonderful photograph opportunities here.

Balk Shipyard Shortlisted for Power Yacht Refit Award with Charter Yacht SEVEN SINS at IY&A Awards 2016

Written by Eva Belanyiova

Balk Shipyard has been shortlisted in The International Yacht and Aviation 2016 awards with the impressive refit of the luxury charter yacht SEVEN SINS in the Power Yacht Refit Award category, as announced by LUXE at al.

Superyacht SEVEN SINS

Superyacht SEVEN SINS

The refit, according to Balk Shipyard, represents one of the most intricate refits the shipyard has undertaken to date, although it only involved around one third of the yacht. The project was very unique, as it is quite rare for a yacht to be extended by two and a half metres by removing the bow section.

The new bow of the yacht was ready to be attached when the vessel arrived at the shipyard, and it took six men and an entire month to attached the new bow to the existing hull.

SEVEN SINS following refit

SEVEN SINS following refit

In addition to the new bow, SEVEN SINS also received four brand-new crew cabins, numerous storage areas, a crew mess and a laundry. Everything was prefabricated and fitted in the hall, then taken apart again in order to get it on board.

The final result is a superyacht extended by 2,3 metres, with SEVEN SINS now measuring 43,60 metres. This is a very special projects, providing the fact that she also needed to comply with the new Large Yacht 3 code. SEVEN SINS now has more balanced exterior lines and boasts a new bulbous bow that provides better fuel consumption and improved overall performance.

Seven Sins will be available for charter in the French Polynesia in the summer.

Tahiti attracted 45 Luxury Superyachts in 2015

January 15, 2016

Written by Zuzana Bednarova

Tahiti, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the world, nestled in French Polynesia, South Pacific, attracted a total number of 45 luxury superyachts in 2015, as reported by Asia Pacific Superyachts Tahiti (APS) director Etienne Boutin.

Aerial view of Tahiti's Marina Taina

Aerial view of Tahiti’s Marina Taina

Looking forward to an amazing 2016, Etienne Boutin said: “2015 was an average year for Tahiti superyacht visits with a total of 45 – let’s hope 2016 will be brilliant!”

The main Pacific Hub represents Tahiti’s Marina Taina, with Papeete Port coming in second. The top class Marina Taina is positioned five miles west of Papeete Harbour and was the first superyacht facility in French Polynesia, built in 1994 and expanded in 2004.

Marina Taina offers a safe, quiet and pollution-free environment in a breath-taking lagoon. The marina is close to city amenities and within walking distance of excellent dining and a shopping mall, home to the largest supermarket in Tahiti. Two concrete docks are reserved for luxury yachts and able to handle up to 27 units under 60 meters at the same time. Mooring is stern-to with one anchor and lines on 4 tons bottom blocks – depth varies from 4 to 15m.

Plenty of superyachts arriving from the Panama Canal reach the fabulous French Polynesia every year to explore its pristine islands and exotic culture.

Fiji Yacht Charter: New Offices in Fiji by SPE for Bespoke Dive Adventures

August 13, 2015

Written by Eva Belanyiova

Superyacht Private Expeditions (SPE), specialising in tailor-made international dive adventures, are pleased to announced the opening of their new offices situated in the beautiful South Pacific yacht charter destination Fiji, at the Marina Denarau. The new offices have been opened to service the breath-taking underwater playground of the region.

As a result of the successful Tahiti Private Expeditions (TPE), owners Christelle and Rodolphe Holler developed SPE a few years ago to satisfy the needs of discerning superyacht customers wishing to explore new areas in the Pacific and South East Asia with trusted dive experts.

With the main office in Auckland, New Zealand, the powerhouse couple has weighty industry and client credentials backing their latest venture. Rodolphe is a dive instructor, marine biologist and professional underwater photographer, filmmaker and award winner of the 2nd Tahiti Underwater Film Festival (FISPOL). Christelle is a dive master, long-time consultant to the Tahiti Department of Tourism in charge of promoting the destination to the superyacht industry and has significant high-end international hospitality experience.

David Jamieson, superyacht captain, dive master and Fiji resident of more than 10 years has been hand chosen as the manager of the  Fiji operations for SPE.

“Combining significant dive experience, extensive local knowledge and contacts with the drive to create outstanding tailored experiences for our clients make David and his team the natural choice” says Christelle Holler.

Jamieson first arrived in Fiji as captain of the 30m classic yacht sailing yacht Aile Blanche in 1999. He has been the owner of the Superyacht shore support agency, Asia Pacific Superyachts Fiji (previously Yacht Help Fiji) for the past 13 years. This provides him with a unique insight into the wants, needs and expectations of today’s superyacht owner, both onshore and off. Asia Pacific Superyachts Fiji has joined Superyacht Private Expeditions as a partner in providing the best diving experience in Fiji for visiting private yachts as well as charter superyachts.

“I’m excited to share my expertise and enthusiasm for diving in Fiji. Although Fiji benefits from strong tourism only 110 of the 332 islands are inhabited. Most of these islands are of volcanic origin and feature great sheltered anchorages for superyachts. Few yachts go there so you feel like you are the first ones to explore the area; notably with a custom itinerary tailored to each guest’s experience and interests whether the group is experienced, complete beginners or includes children. The ongoing project of turning the Vatu-i-ra area into a Marine protected area means there is even more dive excitement coming up in Fiji” says Jamieson.

Fiji yacht charterers can expect tropical weather patterns similar to Tahiti, however both destinations offer two completely contrasting and unique experiences. Fiji is abound with a profusion of thousands of small colourful fish, shark encounters aplenty and abundant magical soft coral, whilst Tahiti is known for thrilling drift dives, brushes with dolphins, manta rays and humpback whales amidst expansive coral reefs. This makes Fiji the natural ‘next location’ to visit arriving from Tahiti in a journey through the Pacific particularly at a time where Fiji is developing a marine protected area.

Superyacht Private Expeditions will continue to provide the highest quality dive experience in Fiji that clients of TPE have become familiar with; namely using the very best dive guides, professionally trained underwater videographers and the latest technology to enable clients to share their adventures with friends and family all over the world.

“Onboard dive crew are often very busy when guests are onboard and diving is not their sole responsibility so having a dedicated person in charge of this activity makes things much easier for the crew and captain,” says Holler. “Not only are we peace of mind for the captain we also support charter managers and brokers in setting up custom itineraries for their clients in areas they have sometimes not experienced themselves.  We step onboard to make our clients’ trip unforgettable.”

TPE and SPE’s rich portfolio of superyacht clients includes: Charter Expedition Yacht Big Fish, Mega Yacht Octopus, Luxury Support Charter Yacht SuRi, S/Y Silencio, M/Y Askari, Charter Motor Yacht Unbridled, M/Y A, and Charter Superyacht Maltese Falcon.

“Quite often we’ll work with yachts on both their charter and owner’s trips,” notes Holler, saying that they recently worked for clients of Sailing Yacht Silencio on a Tahiti yacht charter having previously worked with the owner. A same guide is often requested to join in another destination the following season.

SPE is expanding to other fantastic yachting destinations in order to offer professional tailored itineraries and consistently excellent dive standards throughout the Pacific; from one destination to the next.

Ni sa bula vinaka! Superyacht Private Expeditions looks forward to welcoming you to Fiji.
