Ocean Yacht Systems to supply thruster for Fitzroy Yachts next Dubois 50m sailing yacht (Project G50)

Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS) based in Christchurch UK, have secured a second contract to supply the thrusters on the next Dubois 50m sailing yacht to be built at Fitzroy Yachts, New Zealand.

OYS have previously supplied bow and stern thrusters to the award winning 50m superyacht Zefira. After successful commissioning and trials on board S/Y Zefira in Auckland, the second Dubois 50m sailing yacht (Project G50) planned for build at the Yard was also awarded to OYS.

OYS has supplied 2 x 99kW (133hp) custom hydraulic swing thrusters for the Fitzroy Yachts 50m Flybridge Sloop G50. The unique thrusters are designed to be highly efficient as well as being mechanically locked in place when raised. When retracted there is little evidence of the thruster at all, leaving behind a completely faired hull providing minimal drag and optimising the sailing experience of these performance orientated superyachts.

“We find their (OYS’s) attitude and approach to business to be outstanding amongst our many suppliers,” comments Rodney Martin, MD for Fitzroy Yachts, “We want to keep OYS as the thruster of choice for our yachts and our plan is to recommend future clients to accept OYS as our preferred equipment.”

The 50 Dubois ‘Project G50’ is currently well underway at Fitzroy Yachts with launch planned in 2012.

The 56 meter ‘light weight’ carbon fiber sailing rig was supplied by Southern Spars, and the sails inventory provided by North Sails.

Notes on Zefira from Dubois Naval Architects

“Zefira was built for Italian owners who are wonderfully passionate and artistic. Previously owning an older Dubois-designed sloop, Kokomo of London, the challenge to us was to combine our extensive experience with a fresh look at style, while still embodying all the features which combine seaworthiness with performance.

Sailing yacht Zefira designed by Dubois Naval Architects

The flow of space throughout the yacht is especially easy and logical. Comfort below was essential, as was the detail and finish. The interior layout shows a large owner’s suite with special accent on wardrobe space and this is complimented by a large bathroom situated aft of the main cabin. The interior design was provided by the inimitable skills of Remi Tessier.

Both the interior and exterior are equally spectacular. This elegant superyacht will continue to look contemporary long into her life, well-standing the test of time. An interior Dubois layout styled by Remi Tessier creates a very special ambience and when placed into a Dubois-designed hull, the final result is simply outstanding.”
