The company, led by Chairman Leonardo Ferragamo and Executive Vice President Roger Talermo, is well positoned to leverage recent restructuring and investments made for the future including the appointment of Kjell Vesto to the key role of Operations Director.

Sales in the first quarter of 2013 included a Swan 90S yacht and Swan 80FD to North American clients, followed by last month’s sale of a Swan 60 in Asia. The first Swan ever sold in China, this sale marks an important milestone for both Nautor’s Swan and the new owner who is expected to both cruise and race his Swan 60 yacht in Hainan.

Other sales in Asia include two Swan 53s to buyers in India and the Philippines. These recent successes are indicative of Nautor’s investment in the region and the growing demand for luxury yachts in Asia.

Luca Lucheschi, Commercial Director at Nautor’s Swan commented: “The owner of this new Swan 60 is a sailor who has achieved his dream of owning a Swan. Looking forward to the rest of the year, in Asia and specifically in China, we have a few promising negotiations ongoing. We are cautious, but optimistic about the Asian market’s interest in our new models, particularly the superyacht Swan 105 and Swan 114.”

2013 looks set to be an exciting and prosperous year for the company, with continued focus on the North American and Asian markets where the demand for beautifully designed and built yachts is clear.

Baltic Yachts presents new Baltic 175 sailing yacht PINK GIN VI with launch in 2017

May 15, 2013

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Baltic Yachts is thrilled to announce that it is starting construction of its all-new Baltic 175 sailing yacht Pink Gin VI. Designed by judel/vrolijk & co., Pink Gin VI yacht will be the 6th Baltic Yachts vessel, destined for the same owner. Her launch is scheduled for 2017.

The basic concept behind the design for the Baltic 175 yacht Pink Gin VI is to improve on the already successful concept of Baltic 152 yacht. Baltic Yachts is looking for more performance from a shape with a timeless silhouette. The boat will have a vertical bow, long overhang and a deep lifting keel. After a thorough CFD/VPP study of different hull shapes, the yard has opted for bow sections that are very close to its racing-cruising designs with very soft runs.

The displacement of 235 tons (light craft) is low for a boat of this size due to the carbon sandwich hull and deck construction. To keep the displacement as low as possible it was decided to go for a lifting keel configuration with a draft of 7.00 m in sailing displacement and a minimum draft of 4.50m.

The sailplan is very generous with a mast height of nearly 67 metres above water level that will guarantee good performance in all conditions. The sailplan has two headstays, one for the big non-overlapping Jib, one for a staysail. The big furling Code Zero will be attached on a fixed bowsprit.

Development of the cockpit area is being shared by Design Unlimited in collaboration with judel/vrolijk. The owner has had a big influence with clear intentions for the use of this space and as a result it will be divided into three zones. Forward will be the large main entertaining cockpit with a free-standing dining area and a variety of seating areas with everyone’s comfort in mind.

The focal point of the main cockpit will be the free-standing bar with access to the all-important galley and crew mess below, so that service and catering can be a seamless experience for the owner and his guests. The helm and navigation area is linked to the impressive aft cockpit which comprises of a cozy breakfast area and two large day beds for sunbathing plus bimini options for those lazy afternoons of relaxation. The deck house with design styling by judel/vrolijk will be timeless without the normal retro touches which can often be seen on this kind of yacht.

The interior layout and styling of superyacht Pink Gin VI have also been entrusted to Design Unlimited. The new yacht will take on all the timeless qualities and eclectic touches of the Pink Gin lifestyle that have been admired by so many. She will have an interior where texture and surface treatment will be of great relevance and select materials used to produce a strikingly provocative interior with elegant cozy touches so that the owner can be comfortable on his world cruising voyages.

One of the many interesting features of the Pink Gin VI yacht is the Master Stateroom which is located forward. This is a large, open-plan suite that incorporates an impressive fold out balcony for the owner to enjoy a space that is both totally private and which allows a wonderfully intimate connection to the sea.

Complete Marine Freight oversees transportation of two of the tallest masts in the world of yachting

May 14, 2013

Two of the tallest masts in the world of yachting recently reached the Port of Antwerp by ship, from Southern Spars, New Zealand. The experienced logistics team of Complete Marine Freight oversaw offloading from the ship as well as securing onto local transport for onward delivery.

cmf_logo_1

The first, a towering 67 metres long for the new Yacht Ganesha, together with its boom, was lowered from the ship onto a barge waiting alongside the ship, for the journey to Vitters Shipyard in Holland. The second mast, measuring 47 metres, again with its boom, was loaded onto an extended flatbed lorry bound for road delivery to Baltic Yachts in Finland.

These extremely long and delicate high performance carbon masts require incredibly careful handling. Planning their onward delivery by either road or barge is complex, involving not only the correct lifting equipment but also their chocking and securing onto appropriate transport, plus permits, escort vehicles and route selections to get these awkwardly long spars through some tight turns!

Ultimate cruising yacht Swan 80RS introduced by Nautor’s Swan

April 18, 2013

Nautor’s Swan, a world renowned builder of prestigious and elegant sailing yachts, is thrilled to introduce the new ultimate cruising yacht Swan 80RS (raised saloon). Boasting sleek raised saloon, the latest Swan 80RS yacht is a sophisticated, high performance vessel, exquisitely crafted in Finland. She completes the already established and successful 80 foot range. Designed by German Frers, the Swan 80RS is the perfect choice for those with a passion for long distance cruising in style.

With knowledge gained from close to half a century of design and build experience, Nautor’s Swan has incorporated state of the art materials into the technology of the Swan 80RS yacht. The light, performing hull uses unidirectional fibres resulting in a strong and stiff structure. The yacht will utilise SPRINT™ laminating technology, the same method used for as the Swan 60 and the flush deck version of the Swan 80 yacht. However, the choices of the reinforcements are optimised for a high technology cruising yacht.

Above deck, luxury yacht Swan 80RS offers a well thought out sheltered cockpit, which enhances the safety aspects of the yacht especially under challenging offshore conditions and provides plenty of natural light for the spacious interior. The aft cockpit is designed around the needs of the helmsman, with plenty of room to manoeuvre. A sunbathing area is located on the bridge between the aft cockpit and guest cockpit. This progressive deck layout has been developed based on the experience gained from this Swan’s successful predecessor the Swan 82 yacht, which has been further optimized for long distance cruising.

Down below the stylish, central living area provides the perfect place for entertaining or relaxing, the main saloon is open and inviting, with an additional lounge area on the port side. The Swan 80RS superyacht has four comfortable cabins making it ideal for cruising with family and friends. The owner’s cabin offers two large hull windows providing extensive natural light, this is continued into the midship cabin which also includes two hull windows, as well as the large deck house windows around the whole top-deck to create a luminous environment. The crew accommodation is separated from the guest cabins in this well-appointed layout.  The ease of access to the engine room is also a welcome feature, as is the dinghy ‘garage’.

The standard draft of sailing yacht Swan 80RS is 4m, but there is also the option of a shallow draft keel for coastal cruising to inviting shallow harbours. This new model embodies the spirit of Swan and the ethos of Nautor, which is world renowned for unrivalled build quality.

2012 has seen the launch of the newest addition to the SwanLine, the Swan 80S sailing yacht I Amsterdam. With her performance oriented hull and clean deck layout masking comfortable internal volume and a wealth of technical features that combine to offer outstanding long range cruising capabilities, she is a modern sailing yacht built to be fast, yet be perfectly in keeping with company’s traditional core values: elegant lines, luxurious interiors, ease of handling and reliability.

Above deck, commitment to comfort is a priority with the aesthetically elegant sweeping top of the raised saloon flowing easily into the entertainment cockpit amidships providing a protected area with access to the main companionway, which also benefits from a stylish integrated in-deck bimini that is unique to the new models within the SwanLine.

The offering available within the superyacht range continues to grow at Nautor’s Swan. Earlier in 2012, the Swan 105 superyacht was introduced. The first hulls are now in construction having completed the moulds earlier this summer and the first Swan 105 will be ready to launch in 2014. The design team is also well advanced with plans for a larger model to complete the SwanLine, which currently ranges from the Club Swan 42 to the Swan 105, in addition to custom projects.

Within the racing sphere, Nautor’s Swan has created a new one design class with support from ClubSwan partner, Gazprom. The Gazprom Swan 60 Class comprises eight yachts racing under the country flags of five nations, spanning two continents. Four Swan 60 yachts competed in the Rolex Swan Cup last week and the next event on the calendar is the Nord Stream Race in late October.

Regional operations continue to expand into undeveloped markets for Nautor’s Swan. The partnership with Gazprom and the Yacht Club of Saint-Petersburg is a driving force for the Russian market. To service this and develop opportunities under the direction of Commercial Director, Luca Lucheschi, Joakim Hilden has been appointed Area Manager. The Far East also remains a key target and to drive this area forward following a successful introduction for the brand during the Hainan Rendez-Vous Boat Show in April 2012, where Jimmy Cheung has been appointed Area Manager for this region.

Enrico Chieffi, Managing Director of Nautor’s Swan commented, “Over the course of 2012 we will have launched eight new Swan Maxis. We achieved an outstanding milestone in August with the launch of the Swan 90S superyacht Freya, our 2000th Swan to launch. Our refit service continues to expand with ever more extensive projects being undertaken as we restore older models to their former glory and are able to work with owners to deliver their vision for their Swan. It is an exciting time for the company and we are looking forward to the end of launching season and the start of the next phase of construction for our 2013 deliveries.”

Below is a choice of the luxurious charter yachts built by Nautor’s Swan.

Nautor’s Swan Launch the Swan 90S sailing yacht FREYA – the 2,000th Swan sailing yacht

August 16, 2012

The new Swan 90S sailing yacht Freya has been launched at the Nautor’s Swan facility in Pietarsaari, Finland.  Under clear skies and warm sunshine on Tuesday 14 August 2012 yacht FREYA was lowered into the water, becoming the 2,000th new Swan built and launched by the team of uniquely talented craftsmen since the conception of the company.  Nautor’s Swan has a 46 year history behind them, and has delivered 95 different models of Swan, ranging from the first Swan 36 through to the new Swan 105 sailing yacht.

Yacht Tarantella, a Swan 36-001 was hull number one, the very first Swan sailing yacht built. She was designed by Sparkman and Stephens and was delivered to her owner on 17th of July 1967.  Still sailing and in perfect condition, S/Y Tarantella is now owned by Nautor’s Swan and based at the yard in Pietarsaari.

The second major milestone in the history of Nautor’s Swan was on 15th December 1981 when the first German Frers designed Swan was delivered.  Swan 51-012 named sailing yacht Formosa left the yard in freezing conditions bound for the UK.  This marked the start of one of the longest partnerships within the marine industry between Nautor’s Swan and German Frers that is still a vital and creative relationship over 30 years on.

After a period where the SwanLine moved from smaller yachts to focusing largely upon the Maxi end of the range with the Swan 60, Swan 66, Swan 80, Swan 90 and Swan 105, Swan number 2,000 is an impressive landmark to have achieved.  Sail yacht Freya is due to leave the yard following a month of commissioning on 14 September 2012.

An interesting fact is that if all Swan yachts built to date were lined up there would be almost 96,000 feet of Swan yachts, close to 29.3km which would mean they would form a double line between Kållby, the original location of the Nautor’s Swan – now dedicated to plug & mould fabrication and the lamination of all Swans’ hulls, using one of the most advanced and fully computerized milling machine to perfectly shape the moulds, and the Boat Technology Centre in Pietarsaari where all Swan yachts are assembled and launched and the head office is also located.

Enrico Chieffi, Managing Director of Nautor’s Swan commented, “Delivery of the Swan 90S, Freya, marks an incredible achievement for Nautor’s Swan and our team.  The Swan 90 is an iconic model within the current SwanLine and it is fitting that the 2,000th Swan delivered should cement it in our history books.  With a busy schedule of launches and commissioning ahead of us for the rest of summer, we are looking forward to reaching many more milestones in the years to come.”
