Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show 2012: a Great Success

March 02, 2012

The Yacht & Brokerage Show in Miami Beach reported significantly stronger overall results in comparison to the past several years, with the number of exhibitors and yachts on display both up 9 percent over 2011.

The Yacht and Brokerage Show, Miami

Attendance, based on concession sales and number of people using show transportation at the free-to-the-public event, was up more than 7 percent. Most importantly, notably strong sales activity was reported by numerous builders including Fairline, Viking, Ferretti, Hatteras, Westport and Marquis and brokerages including Allied Marine, HMY and Merle Wood, among others.

“The show was a tremendous success this year,” said Andrew Doole, senior vice president and COO of Show Management. “We had more exhibitor participation and the reports are of more qualified buyers than recent years, both signs of a strong industry and a strong show.”

“This year’s Yacht & Brokerage Show was the busiest Miami show Denison Yacht Sales has ever had,” said owner, Bob Denison. “We introduced the Monte Carlo 76 to the U.S. market and our displays in TrawlerPort and at Beneteau Gran Turismo were slammed every day. Two Beneteau Swift Trawlers and eight Gran Turismos were sold at the show.”

For sale at this year’s show were two of the largest yachts ever offered at The Yacht & Brokerage Show: the 200′ Benetti megayacht Diamonds Are Forever, and the 191′ Trinity luxury yacht Carpe Diem. Both garnered attention from qualified buyers.

“It was an incredibly positive Yacht & Brokerage Show for us, and the boat we had on display, Shooting Star, caused a real stir,” said Neil Cheston, director of sales and charter with Y.CO. “We definitely intend to have an even bigger presence at next year’s show.”

TrawlerPort and its seminars, more free shuttle buses, additional parking, the user-friendly smart phone app, MyBoatShow, Yacht Equipment and Sportfishing Pavilions, IGFA seminars, food and live musical entertainment, all contributed to making this year’s Yacht & Brokerage Show a top-line yachting lifestyle event.

“The show brought us many qualified customers,” said Alan Murphy, Jr., vice president of Pioneer Linens Yacht & Estates Division and a show sponsor. “What was refreshing was the number of new show visitors traveling to the show as a destination.”

The Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show is managed, produced and co-owned by Show Management, co-owned and sponsored by the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, and sponsored by Boat Show Hotels, Boat Quest, Budweiser, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, International Game Fish Association (IGFA) and the IGFA School of Sportfishing, Pioneer Linens, Rums of Puerto Rico, TrawlerPort, and Yachts International.

Carlo Riva’s birthday opens a series of important anniversaries for Riva Yachts

February 28, 2012

With the celebration of the 90th birthday of the “Pioneer of the Boating Industry”, Mr Carlo Riva, starts a year featuring a long period of important events for Riva, a brand of the Ferretti Group. The celebrations will culminate with the 50th anniversary of the Aquarama yacht tender and the 170th anniversary of the brand.

Everything was ready in Sarnico to celebrate Carlo Riva, the globally renowned and esteemed entrepreneur whose unique ingenuity has left an indelible mark in the history of pleasure boating and who, over the years, was capable of turning the Riva brand and the Sarnico boatyard (which have been part of the Ferretti Group since the year 2000) into a reference for the entire Italian and global boating sector.

“I have always cruised towards Riva as one would cruise towards a longed-for horizon, and I have always considered Carlo Riva as a master I owe a lot to, from both a professional and a personal standpoint. This is why I am delighted to be able to give him my best wishes for this extraordinary moment in his outstanding life,” says Ferretti Group’s Chairman Norberto Ferretti.

Carlo Riva was born in 1922, he is an engineer and was appointed “Pionere della Nautica” by UCINA (the Italian Marine Industry Association) in 1988 and “Personnalité de la Mer” by Albert II of Monaco in 2005; on 24th February, he blew out 90 candles.

Born into a family of yacht builders, he had an immense passion for boats and boat building since his early years and was then the Master who, in the 1950s, turned this brand into a synonym of style, status and perfection, also thanks to models like Ariston and Tritone, Sebino and Florida, all the way to the Aquarama yacht, which was launched in 1962. All crafts which have made Riva a symbol of Made in Italy creations all over the world and were the object of desire for noble people, actors, sports champions, businessmen and celebrities. Among them, it is enought to mention Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Liz Taylor, Sean Connery and Jean Paul Belmondo, Richard Burton and Jackie Stewart. But there were also royalties, princes and sheikhs from all over the world.

The Aquarama yacht tender, whose 50th anniversary is being celebrated this year, embodied the triumph of Carlo Riva’s production philosophy, becoming the symbol of the shipyard and of the Riva brand everywhere in the world.

The winners were selected by a committee of experts made up of journalists from Motor Boats Monthly and Motor Boat&Yachting.

This is the second prize awarded within a few months to this new model of the Ferretti Custom Line. Created from the close collaboration of Studio Zuccon International Project, the AYT – Advanced Yacht Technology, the naval research and design centre of the Ferretti Group, and the team of architects and designers from Centro Stile Ferretti  Group,  the Ferretti  Custom  Line  100’ yacht embodies the construction and project design experience of the Shipyard which, on the one hand combines sporty design and technology, and on the other hand combines innovative design solutions and comfort, striking a perfect balance. Ferretti Custom Line 100’ is part of the Custom Line, alongside the 124’, 112’ NEXT and 97’ models.

Externally the Ferretti super yacht Custom Line 100’ is immediately striking for her geometric and modern lines, which give her a very sporty profile. The overall image is that of great lightness, thanks to the presence of a continuous large window that extends from the aft of the main deck to the dashboard, which is raised and linked to the external fly, and which has large triangular windows on both walls, towards the bow. The right wall has a foldable saxboard, and at the ship owner’s request, it is possible to install a system of electrical sliding glass doors, to directly access the terrace overlooking the sea from the saloon.

The interiors are modern and valuable materials are the main protagonists: teak floors, walnut wood with milled leather and LED panels:  in fact, for this model, the Shipyard has created technical lighting which is inbuilt in this boat layout in order to obtain lights that best characterize some of the internal areas, providing comfort and relaxation. These elements create an innovative mixture, based on the Ship owner’s desires.

In fact, like the rest of the Ferretti Custom Line range, on board the 100’ yacht, every non-structural detail, such as the furniture, fabrics and the décor can be customized by the Ship owner who, with the help of the architects and the designers of Centro Stile, can take up the offers of the best Italian and International companies to create a tailor-made yacht.

The engines on board also guarantee the best performance and comfort: the cruising speed is 24 knots while the maximum speed reaches 26 knots. As regards safety and comfort equipment, on board the Custom Line 100’ yacht there are solutions of the latest generation: the yacht is equipped with an anti-roll stability Mitsubishi  ARG  (Anti Rolling  Gyro), capable of reducing boat rolling by over 50%, which is the greatest cause of discomfort especially while in transit or in port.

“Winning another prestigious award, is a reason of great satisfaction for Custom Line and it confirms to the whole Group the quality of the work that has been done over these years.” – Norberto Ferretti, Chairman and Founder of the Ferretti Group commented. “I am particularly fond of the Ferretti Custom Line, with whom we have just launched three new models, renovating half of the fleet and remaining faithful as always to the principles of this brand:  combining design, comfort and performance so that the Ship Owner can experience the sea in ‘custom’ version.”

New Riva 63´ Virtus Yacht: The Biggest Riva Open is Born

February 03, 2012

Riva, iconic Ferretti Group brand, presents the birth of the new flagship of their open line, featuring racy exteriors with a strong personality, the Riva 63′ Virtus yacht. The luxury yacht Riva 63´ Virtus is the largest open boat created by the shipyard, represented by an unmistakable style and a distinctly Mediterranean character.

New Riva 63´ Virtus Yacht The Biggest Riva Open is Born

New Riva 63´ Virtus Yacht The Biggest Riva Open is Born

The new yacht Riva 63′ Virtus is the product of a close working relationship between Officina Italiana Design, the studio that exclusively designs all yachts in the Riva range, the AYT – Advanced Yacht Technology, the Ferretti Group’s naval research and design centre, and the team of architects and designers at Centro Stile Ferrettigroup. The new model has been designed as a sporty yacht, created for owners wishing to experience the sea first hand.

Riva reinterprets the concept of an open yacht with a model featuring a typical Mediterranean style which maintains the unmistakable elegance of all the shipyard’s models: class, refinement and clean lines. These are also found in and on the new Riva 63′ Virtus yacht, flagship of the Riva opens, a model designed to last.

Created following the lines of the 63′ Vertigo yacht, a classical, highly successful Riva model, Virtus recaptures the strong character of the Rivale, another Riva open boat which has marked the shipyard’s history, but uses larger spaces which guarantee excellent liveability and total on-board comfort.

The exteriors feature spacious areas which enable owners to enjoy the Riva 63´ Virtus yacht in the company of their guests, also thanks to two large sundecks, one at bow and one astern, under which the garage for the tender is located. This sociable aspect of the boat is also extended to the helm area, where the driving seat consists of a three seater sofa, enabling owners to share the pleasure of driving the yacht with their guests.

Riva 63´ Virtus Yacht

Riva 63´ Virtus Yacht

Moreover, it is protected by a large windshield with a double curve which ensures comfort while cruising. The cockpit is spacious, comfortable and equipped with a fridge, sink and – upon request – a grill. In the cockpit there are three sofas, one of which L-shaped, located on the port hand side, one astern and a third equipped with a system which slides and enables to move closer to the varnished teak table which has a flip up section. Moreover, the cockpit is covered with a large, electro-hydraulically operated bimini which can also be kept open whilst running.

Typical of Riva, the class and attention to fine detail is evident in the cleats and in the electric winches skilfully concealed to ensure aesthetic fluidity. Painstaking attention has also been paid to creating the functional, well-designed instrument mast in line with the style of all Riva open models.

The interior fittings have been studied in such a way as to attain the very best availability in terms of space and comfort, with a large salon which makes it possible to place a wooden table, able to accomodate up to six in this area, without having to reduce the size of the galley.

Riva 63′ Virtus is a yacht featuring contrasts of colour and materials: the alternation between the light shades of the oak and darker ones of the leather, and between the opaque and polished lacquering create a style which gives the new Riva 63′ Virtus a further touch of modern style without forgetting the traditional elegance of all Riva yachts.

The master cabin is located portside astern and set slightly lower than the other two, and has been enriched with a bed run around in leather stitching. The slightly lower position of the cabin makes it possible to use all the space available. The guest cabin, also located port-side midships, features bunk beds, set out in an L-shape which offer a pleasant panoramic view of the surface of the water. The master and VIP cabins, set at bow, both feature en-suite heads, whilst the day head is located opposite the guest cabin.

The harmonious profile and racy lines of the yacht are further emphasised by the large arrow-shaped side windows, which have made so many other Riva models successful and guarantee excellent natural lighting below deck. The unusual features of the hull and teak of the deck and part of the cockpit, together with the many details in stainless steel, contribute to making the yacht 63′ Virtus both modern and sporty.

TECHNOLOGY AND PERFORMANCE

The new Riva 63′ Virtus is also on the cutting-edge for her on-board technological equipment. Featuring twin 1360mhp MAN 12V engines, 1000 kW at 2300 rpm/min, the new yacht Riva 63′ VIRTUS delivers an excellent performance, with a top speed of 40 knots and a cruise speed of 35 thanks to the tried and tested hull equipped with direct shaft line tunnel propulsion. Her ease of handling and smoothness over the waves are also excellent for this category.
