Feadship launch 99m Yacht Project DREAM – the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands

February 07, 2013

Leading luxury superyacht builder, Feadship, has launched its 99-metre masterpiece superyacht ‘DREAM’ (Project name). Constructed at Feadship yard in Makkum, ‘DREAM’ yacht project is the largest superyacht built in the Netherlands, boasting sleek lines and exquisite interior detailing.  Elegant and quick, she is a well-honed masterpiece bound to turn heads wherever she may cruise.

More than four years in the making, mega yacht project name ‘Dream’ left the massive building hall today. She is an elegant and striking tribute to her visionary owner, the talented design team of Andrew Winch and the hundreds of Feadship staff who built her.

As is usually the case with Feadship, confidentiality is a given, but is no secret that Feadship’s advanced hull construction system, fine-tuned over many decades, has enabled its craftsmen to construct a slender lightweight vessel that, despite her 99-metre length, can attain a speed well over 24 knots. Capitalizing on Feadship’s engineering experience on motoryachts Predator and Tango, she is capable of such speeds thanks to her highly efficient hull form and quadruple engines driving controllable pitch propellers swift and efficiently.

The ‘DREAM’ superyacht project is also a prime example of Feadship’s unrivalled ability to build superyachts exactly according to client specifications – in this case a striking and sleek concept presented by AWD, resulting in a totally custom creation. Says marketing manager Francis Vermeer: “Because we start every project afresh and are not building from an existing platform, all things are possible for a Feadship owner. It’s all part of the experience that makes creating a Feadship such fun for our clients.”

Experience of a different kind underpinned some of the other special requests for this latest member of the Feadship fleet. Leveraging on the expertise accrued on 81-metre yacht Air, launched in 2011, and the fully enclosed helicopter hangar which was developed for 86-metre Ecstasea yacht from 2004, project name ‘Dream’ is the second Feadship to feature such a certified helicopter storage system.

“Feadship enters 2013 on a crest of a wave as we continue to set new standards in partnership with discerning owners,” concludes Vermeer. “With a solid order book and superyachts under construction ranging from 44 metres to 101.50 metres, there will be many more surprises as the year unfolds.”

88 metre yacht Fountainhead launched by Feadship

May 02, 2011

In what is a busy 2011 year for yacht orders and launches by the Dutch luxury yacht building company Feadship, there has been another large superyacht launched called motor yacht ‘Fountainhead’. Yacht Fountainhead is the largest private yacht Feadship has ever built, along with another 88 m XL called Musashi.

Superyacht FOUNTAINHEAD was launched today by the Feadship Koninklijke De Vries shipyard in Makkum, the Netherlands. M/Y Fountainhead is the third boat of the Feadship XL series, the first being yacht Ocean Victory and the second called yacht Musashi. All three Feadship XL superyachts have been launched at the De Vries Makkum facility – Ocean Victory, in October 2008 and Musashi in August 2010.

The Name ‘Fountainhead’

The Fountainhead is also known as a famous novel which was written by Ayn Rand in 1943. In the book The Fountainhead Howard Roark, the main protagonist, is an individualistic young architect who chooses to struggle in obscurity rather than compromise his artistic and personal vision. The book describes his battle to practice his idea of what is superior architecture when the general public view is as overly modernistic architecture in an establishment focused on convention.

Feadship farewells refitted superyacht Odyssey

November 17, 2010

After final commissioning and successful sea trials, the newly refitted Feadship Odyssey (relaunched on October the 8th 2010) has set sail for the Caribbean. The project started exactly ten months ago when the yacht arrived at the Feadship yard in Makkum after a harsh and icy crossing piggybacking on top of a yacht transporter from the US.

The refit of charter yacht Odyssey began as a structural project to extend the hull and all superstructure decks. At the owners’ request, it soon developed into a rebuild of considerable magnitude, including an extensive interior reconstruction, engine room modernisation and exterior re-finish. This work was carried out in close cooperation with the owners’ team, the designers from Redman Whiteley DixonDe Voogt Naval Architects and the De Vries Makkum Refit Team.

Unlike ten months ago, the captain is sailing the vessel on her own keel across the Atlantic. As on previous extensions, Feadship has also been able to improve motor yacht Odyssey’s seakeeping capabilities and stability. She has been transformed into an exceptionally comfortable leisure platform for her owners and charter guests, offering every conceivable luxury one could wish for from a vessel of this size.

Feadship thanks the owners for giving De Vries Makkum the opportunity and faith to perform this outstanding refit. The friendly and professional business atmosphere between both parties will be a benchmark for future projects as it proved very successful for both sides.
