The crew was also very patient, helpful and friendly with the kids (three boys, 5, 3 and 2 year old…). On the boat, speed was a good thing and it was useful to have a fast boat so we could cover a fair bit of distance.”

Construction on the 41m/135ft series-K flagship from Cerri Cantieri Navali is continuing to schedule, and as of July 2017 the hull has been sanded in preparation for the finish to be applied.

Commissioned in October 2015 for an American owner, expedition yacht K40 KANGA will be cruising in the polar oceans and the finish has been specially formulated to meet the requirements of such environments.

In a break from conventional expedition yacht finishes, the K40 will have a layered finish totalling only 4mm, whereas most expedition yacht finishes are 10mm-20mm. The result is a smoother appearance without the finish defects usually associated with steel plate construction.

The majority of the construction and engineering has been completed: The underlying deck grill is done and tubing is in the advanced stages. The main electrics panel will be installed shortly as most of the work has been completed, and work fitting the interiors has entered the initial stages.

The first of two projects currently underway at the Cerri Cantieri Navali yard, the four-deck K40 has a length overall of almost 41 meters, with a maximum beam of 9.4 meters. Extremely reliable, easy to run and maintain, a steel hull reinforced in accordance with the Light Ice Class and an aluminum superstructure, all under 500 GT.

The Fuoriserie yacht will feature an aluminium hull and superstructure and will be capable of reaching a top speed of 40 knots due to three water-jet engines.

The completely customised project has both interiors and exteriors drafted by Tommaso Spadolini, taking into account the client’s style preferences, and requested a design that maximised contact with the sea while also ensuring that privacy was rigorously maintained. The master cabin will be located behind the helm station and extend across the entire main deck, with a central skylight for plenty of illumination and a curtained aft cockpit for outdoor lounging and dining in privacy.

“It is a great honour for me to be able to build a yacht that will truly stand out for its great personality and unique features – comments CCN’s CEO Diego Michele Deprati. – CCN is increasingly showing its strong drive for innovation, its flexibility, and its world-class shipbuilding quality through fully-custom projects that are tailor-made to the Clients’ taste and desires. COMMANDER A The 42.5 M Explorer Yacht

September 09, 2016

Written by Mike Smith

Swiss headquartered Floating Life and Carrara-based CCN-Cerri Cantieri Navali have recently joined their large expertise in shipbuilding, yacht design and management to work on a brand-new 42.50 m vessel. Project has been unveiled at Cannes Yachting Festival 2016.

This steel yacht, strengthened to fit the “Light Ice class” and featuring an aluminium superstructure, has been developed starting from the tested hull of the K40, engineered by Studio Sculli and currently under construction in the Carrara shipyard.

Its outer lines too, have been pencilled by Studio Sculli and are extremely modern and aggressive also thanks to the extensive use of glazed surfaces, which result in a bold, contemporary-style yacht. “The design of the C415 – explains Mauro Sculli – is what I would call ‘transversal’. i.e. a compromise between different types of yachts, mainly an explorer and a traditional, modern craft, combined with the wish to include elements that would immediately and clearly reflect CCN’s distinctive style”.

The interior layout features several innovative solutions and has been conceived to offer guests the utmost comfort thanks to spacious interior and exterior volumes, and large relaxation and sunbathing areas.

The Owner has available an entire deck, featuring, besides the master suite, a private pool at the bow. A second infinity edge pool for guests can be found aft on the upper deck. The main deck layout is quite original too, with the dining room located forward and connected to an outdoor lounge area. Conceived to meet a wide range of needs, this deck is extremely versatile: the aft area is used to store a large 10 m tender and water toys, but can also be easily converted into a pleasant conversation area.

There are also several areas devoted to well-being at the stern of the lower deck, the latter hosting 4 cabins. A spacious beach-club with a bar and conversation area complete the ‘comfort zone’ reserved for guests on this deck.
The crew quarters and the galley are large and comfortable, making this yacht ideal also for long-range cruises.
The bottom deck, which extends uninterruptedly from stern to bow, features the technical areas, a cold room, and the laundry. A side access ensures easy galley supplies loading operations.

Great care has also been devoted to the yacht’s eco-friendliness, and a bi-fuel solution is currently being explored.

The Commander 415 will be powered by 2 CAT C32 ACERT engines, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. Perfect vessel for long-distance cruising, the C415 can boast an impressive range of 5,400 miles at cruising speed.

“Our success with the M/Y K40 encouraged us to develop this new project, of which we are very proud, in cooperation with Floating Life. This yacht stands out for a number of modern, innovative solutions – comments CCN’s CEO Diego Deprati – and I am confident it will be welcomed by the market just as it deserves”.

Andrea Pezzini – Floating Life’s CEO – adds: “As in the K Series we are currently developing, on this project too we have focused our attention in particular on system efficiency and easy maintenance. We have channelled all our management expertise into the main characteristics that our customers have been asking for in our 16-year experience in this sector. Moreover, we have tried to make this project extremely versatile and able to cruise in any and all sea and weather conditions. The experience we gained building the M/Y K40 proved that we and CCN share common objectives, great care for product quality, and the same ethics and working philosophy towards our customers”.
