New Camper & Nicholsons expanded range of day cruisers and plan of two superyachts

April 24, 2013

Established in 1782, Camper & Nicholsons Yachting, the well known UK shipyard, part of Nautor Holding Group, owned by Italian enterpreneur Leonardo Ferragamo, expands the range of its day cruisers by introducing the new 60 and 80 foot yacht models in addition to the already existing 42 and 50 foot yacht models. It will be a limited edition range of yachts, custom made according to the owner’s wishes. Moreover, the company enters the long range yachts market with the projects of two new 32 and 40 meter superyachts. The concept as well as the specifications will be previewed at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, taking place in September.

George Nicholson, Chairman of Camper & Nicholsons Yachting, a yachtsman from an early age and fifth generation of the Nicholson yachting dynasty, still races his Dragon actively and is one of the most experienced authorities in the superyacht world. Federico Bennewitz, CEO of the company, has held management positions in Perini Navi, San Lorenzo and more recently in VSY where he built innovative and high quality super yachts from 60 to 70 meters.

The concept
Two centuries of tradition, combined with leading edge technology, have culminated in the creation of the exclusive range of power boats by Camper & Nicholsons Yachting.

Ideal both for a day at sea or for long distance cruising, the day cruisers and the long distance yachts have a well defined identity, distinguished by the harmonious lines, the maximum attention to comfort and seaworthiness.

Onboard, one can breathe the history of a legendary boatyard: craftmanship, choice of materials and interior layouts are key elements for a timeless elegance.

High-end technologies deliver unequalled performance both for short and long distance cruising and guarantee ideal manoeuvrability in whatever conditions. Sustainability and respect for the environment are also the corner stones of this project.

Day Cruisers
The 42’ Endeavour, the 50’ Velsheda – which will be launched in June 2013 in the Marina di Scarlino – and the 60’ Shamrock recall the J Class yachts built by Camper&Nicholsons in the 1930’s to challenge for the America’s Cup.

The 80’ superyacht Gelyce is named after a range of power boats built by the company between 1910 and 1940. The boat has two engine options, one for long range (MAN V8 – 1000 735kW) with a cruising speed of 22 knots and one which is more powerful for fast range (Caterpillar C32 – 1622/1193 kW) with a cruising speed of 32 knots.

Five of the world’s largest superyacht electricity supply pedestals for Yas Marina

February 06, 2013

One of the world’s most prestigious superyacht marinas, Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is expected to install five bespoke designed 1,000 Amp (per phase) supply pedestals, the largest ever produced, to meet the increasing power request of the biggest vessels in the superyacht fleet.

Camper & Nicholsons Marinas has worked with Rolec Services Ltd, to develop this ultra-high capacity facility, which dramatically exceeds the already high offering of 600 Amp supplies that previously represented the upper limit for yacht shore power. These new pedestals will enable vessels to draw up to 3,000 Amps from each of the five units.

Cedric Le Rest, Yas Marina’s General Manager, explains: “as the new generation of superyachts grows ever larger, their power requirements are starting to stretch even the highest capacity electricity supplies that marinas can provide. So we’ve taken a big step to ensure we can cater for current and future yachts, right up to the top of the size range.”

Commenting on the design and manufacture of the pedestals, Kieron Alsop, Managing Director of Rolec Services said, “having already manufactured and supplied the 600 Amp shore power units currently on site at Yas Marina, we are now delighted to have been commissioned by Camper & Nicholsons to design, develop and manufacture these bespoke, 1,000 Amp per phase Megamaster units. These unique 1,000 Amp units posed a number of new challenges including how to accommodate the huge switchgear and electricity management systems in a non-industrial looking format suited to a marina environment. Further challenges were to manage the safe 1,000 Amp connection between the superyacht and supply point on the Megamaster, as well as evenly distributing the physical weight of the unit, in order to maintain the stability and buoyancy of the pontoon on which they will be mounted.”

Yas Marina is no stranger to dealing with the world’s biggest yachts, with berthing available up to 150m LOA. And the marina’s provision of electricity, fuel and water comes at prices that Mediterranean or Caribbean operators can only dream of. Electricity is just 4 US cents per kilowatt and water only 3.6 US cents per imp gallon!

The scale and quality of the services, combined with these utility prices, make Yas Marina an attractive location for superyachts of all sizes. The marina is also currently undergoing an expansion and refurbishment project, which will provide shore-side facilities with even greater appeal for owners, guests, captains and crew.
