Benetti Vision 145′ motor yacht CHECKMATE (hull BV018) successfully launched

June 14, 2012

Saturday 9 June saw the launch ceremony for the new Benetti Vision 145′ motor yacht Checkmate (hull BV018), taking place in the Darsena Italia Basin, historic home of the Benetti shipyard. With exterior design by Stefano Righini and interior design by Francois Zuretti, the 44m Checkmate superyacht is the 15th vessel constructed in the successful Vision line, as well as the top of the Class range of yachts.

After the traditional breaking of the champagne bottle across her bows, the Benetti superyacht Checkmate slipped smoothly into the Mediterranean from a specially built ramp to the notes of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Và Pensiero”.

Present at the ceremony were the owner (a well known surgeon from Washington, D.C.) and his family, together with all the Benetti staff involved in her almost two year long construction and fitting out.

Named “Checkmate” by her owner, with her imposing yet streamlined profile, her unusual black livery and 44 meters of pure elegance, the latest Vision 145′ catalyzed the attention of all present.

The incomparable experience of Benetti’s highly skilled workers, who have acted as ambassadors of Italian styling and the highest form of
craftmanship excellence for 140 years, have created Checkmate’s interior: both rich and sober, with a combination of cherry and Burr Madrona woods, neoclassical dark inlays enhanced by marble – the definitive confirmation of their skill.

The new Benetti Vision 145′ luxury yacht Checkmate (hull BV018) is almost 44 meters long with a beam of over 9 meters. She is equipped with twin 1,300 HP Caterpillar engines, delivering a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising range of over 3,500 nautical miles.

CEO of the Mega-yacht division of the the Azimut/Benetti Group, Vincenzo Poerio, declared during the ceremony: “We are particularly proud of our latest launch, the 100th fiberglass yacht built in Viareggio since 1998.
