December 13, 2010

British Marine Federation (BMF) and Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA) have reached agreement to form GMI (Global Marina Industries). This is seen as a natural evolution of work they have both been doing on marina training and certification in their own geographic regions but are now taking the opportunity to go global.

The parties have agreed to form GMI to provide education, training and certification for marinas and marina staff to raise standards and professionalism within the marina industry in Europe, AustraliaAsia and the rest of the world excluding the United States.

The new organisation will be chaired by Mick Bettesworth CMM, Chief Commercial Officer of MDL Marinas Group PLC  and with a Board of Directors including Sarah Dhanda, Director of Business Development BMF; Debbie Burns CMM, Marina Manager Ocean Village Marina (UK) and Chair of UK/Europe CMM Group;  Jeff d’Albora, Director of MIAA;  Steve Sammes CMM, Director MIAA and General Manager of Gold Coast Marina and Chair of Australia/Asia CMM Group and Colin Bransgrove, Executive Director MIAA.  This Board collectively represents more than 100 years of experience in marina management.

The partners have a long history of delivering marina management training across eight countries with delegates attending courses from over 30 countries. Going forward GMI will be working with local delivery partners in the non English speaking world to develop courses in native languages.

GMI will take responsibility for the Certified Marina Manager Programme (CMM), the Certified Marina Operators Programme (CMO) and the Certified Marina Service Programme (CSM) and marina managers courses outside of the USA. GMI will also be working to develop new training and broader certification programmes for other marina staff.

GOST Cloak system

GOST Cloak system

One of the new products in the GOST range is the GOST Cloak system. Most property loss occurs in the first initial minutes of a break-in, before police or security teams have had a chance to respond. The GOST Cloak system is designed to provide protection in the critical time gap between onboard alarm activation and the response team’s arrival.

In a matter of seconds, the GOST Cloak system fills the protected vessel interior with an impenetrable cloud of smoke that makes the intruder disoriented and confused and forces them off the vessel until the response team arrives. This prevents damage or loss of property on the vessel.

The fog is created by vaporizing a specially formulated glycol solution. Glycol is classified as a foodstuff and is found in many day-to-day substances such as toothpaste and deodorants. The vapor produced is a dense, white fog which reduces visibility to less than 30 cm, practically no visibility, but which, under normal usage, is harmless to anything aboard a yacht.

Other GOST Products

Left to right: GOST Insight, GOST Nav-Tracker, GOST Marine Magellan, GOST Watch, GOST Acoustic Barrier Powered by Inferno and GOST Immobilizer.

GOST Insight - Wireless security, monitoring, tracking & surveillance cameras can be set to record clips to website on alarm activation and send text & email notifications. DVR will record four cameras for 30 days.

GOST Nav-Tracker - Inmarsat Satellite-based GPS Tracking. Remotely control geo-fence and track your vessel online anywhere in the world using Google Earth interface. This product was awarded a medal by the US Coast Guard for assistance in the recovery of various high profile vessels.

GOST Marine Magellan – Wireless security & monitoring. Call into system from any phone to arm/disarm or control relays. Up to 32 wireless sensors & eight wireless relays. Systems available for any size vessel.

GOST Watch – Surveillance system that can easily add-on to existing cameras onboard, which enables you to view your cameras remotely from your smart phone or computer from anywhere at any time.

GOST Acoustic Barrier powered by Inferno – Functions as a sound barrier or as a traditional siren. GOST Acoustic Barrier effectively stops intruders in their tracks by generating a patented unbearable pattern, frequency and intensity noise. Combine with the GOST Cloak for the ultimate interior vessel protection during initial stages of break in.

GOST Immobilizer – The new GOST Immobilizer is a simple yet effective device for protecting tenders, outboard boats, or Jet Skis from theft. The system is controlled via key fob and when armed will prevent the engine from starting. It allows a low amount of current draw through the GOST Immobilizer to power things like stereo memory and other low power consumption components. When armed, it blocks high current draw from the battery as the starter is engaged. When someone is attempting to start the vessel, it will not start and the siren will sound for a predetermined set time.

December 08, 2010

Maritimo has further expanded their international Dealer network with the appointment of Bigfoot Marine to represent the company in southern Africa.

Bigfoot Marine principal Laurence Steytler has been involved in boating and fishing since the age of 10 and launched Bigfoot Marine in 2003 after searching the world for a boat to suit his own requirements.

“I looked for a boat with blue water credentials, with safe walk-around decks and a useable flybridge,” he said.

“I read a magazine article about Bill Barry-Cotter and his Maritimo boats. They seemed to offer everything I was looking for. So I called the factory, spoke to Luke and received straight answers.”

Mr Steytler visited the Maritimo factory in early December to meet the team.

“The company’s in-house engineering capabilities are astounding,” he said. “The fact that Maritimo makes its own water strainers, propellers and couplings is reassuring.”

Maritimo will deliver its first boat to the Seychelles islands off southern Africa in February.

“We are delighted to have the boat in our region so soon and will assist with all after-sales service for the new owners,” said Mr Steytler.

Marketing Director Luke Durman said the updated Motoryachts are a significant step in the evolution of the company.

“We are always looking for ways to innovate and build on the incredible reputation that the company has developed in seven short years,” he said.

“Obviously, we have retained all that is great in the Motoryachts. The bluewater hulls are incredibly efficient even in big seas. The layout of each boat offers maximum use of available space for the comfort of the skipper and family.”

New Outer Reef 70 motor yacht AROONA delivered

November 25, 2010

The first Outer Reef 70 to Australia hit the shores this past week after an uneventful journey from Taiwan and a flawless offload in Port Kembla, Australia.  Motor yacht AROONA, the Outer Reef 70 was built to Queensland Commercial Survey by her owners Andrew and Linda Prentice and will be put into pleasure cruising, fishing and diving yacht charters on the Great Barrier Reef.

All hands and her owners were up early on delivery day anxiously awaiting the go ahead from the Port Authority to see AROONA in the flesh since her voyage from Taiwan, akin to the likes of Christmas morning.

Motor yacht AROONA was blessed with an excellent placement on deck which shielded her from the ravages of the open ocean.  M/V DIAMANTGRACHT, the carrier vessel dodged  a couple of typhoons on her way to the Southern Hemisphere and bucked some very high winds and nasty seas on her final leg of the journey.  Considering the weather she encountered along the way, the Outer Reef 70 AROONA was remarkably clean and ready to show off her stuff to her new owners.

After an uneventful 10 hour journey in 2-3 meter seas from Port Kembla, with pods of whales breaching and numerous dolphins riding the bow wave of M/Y AROONA, seemingly guiding her home, she arrived safe and sound at Outer Reefs docks and offices in SydneyAustralia.

Charter yacht AROONA will be in Outer Reef’s ”Try Before you Buy” charter program, in which potential customers can spend a week or 2 aboard AROONA, fishing and diving in some of the most pristine waters in the world.  If the perspective client decides to purchase an Outer Reef, their charter fees will be reimbursed.

Motor yacht AROONA will go through the final commissioning process which will take about 2 weeks and once completed, she will head North to Cairns, where she will call this port her home base.  I do not though foresee yacht AROONA spending much time in port as she already has a very well booked charter schedule.
