Feadship announces formation of Feadship Heritage Fleet

April 17, 2013

The leading Dutch luxury yacht builder, Feadship, has launched the Feadship Heritage Fleet, representing an association for the owners of Feadships that are more than thirty years old. The inaugural meeting of the association was held in the historic De Roode Leeuw restaurant in Amsterdam, on 16 April, 2013. This was also the location of the very first Feadship meeting in late 1949.

The association’s objectives are to unite the owners of classic Feadship yachts, promote the continuance of the sailing Feadship heritage, organise events for its members and offer them services related to their yachts. Membership will be strictly restricted to owners of registered Feadships built more than thirty years ago. In recognition of people who have been of particular service to the association, honorary members can also be appointed by the annual general meeting.

The board of the Feadship Heritage Fleet will be comprised of Feadship owners and the association, with support from Feadship directors. “Our intention is to organise various events around the world that will attract owners and their Feadships,” says Bas Nederpelt, Feadship sales and marketing director. “There is an incredible number of Feadships sailing that were launched more than three decades ago. As well as being a testimony to Feadship standards of construction, many of these yachts have been scrupulously maintained by their owners. They are very proud of the heritage of their superyacht and still enjoy cruising the world in the style and comfort which is unique to the Feadship brand.”

The first three members of the Feadship Heritage Fleet have already been accepted: The 16-metre motor yacht Ammerland, launched in 1966, the 35.42-metre luxury yacht The Highlander from 1967, and the 32.22-metre superyacht Heavenly Daze (launched in 1972 as Aldebaran). The owners of these three Feadships – Arthur van Berge Henegouwen, Victor Muller and Rory Brooks, respectively – will be the founder members of the board.

“It all started about a year ago when Rory contacted us for more information on his classic Feadship. After a long day of opening dusty boxes and scanning faded photographs with my uncle Huib de Vries, Feadship archivist, the idea came up that it would be nice to create a club for owners of vintage Feadship yachts”, recalls Henk de Vries, Feadship director.

“When Henk de Vries approached me to help found the Feadship Heritage Fleet I did not have to think twice,” comments Victor Muller, who has been appointed chairman of the association. “Having been a yachting enthusiast for decades and a proud owner of a classic Feadship since 2007, I feel privileged and honoured to help preserve the fabulous legacy of Feadship for the future. We are grateful to Feadship for their ongoing support and look forward to working closely together to achieve the ambitious plans we have for our members.”

METS encouraging charities to apply for DAME 2013 Funding

April 17, 2013

METS organiser Amsterdam RAI encourages government approved marine related public charities to apply for the registration proceeds from the Design Award METS (DAME) competition.

METS

“We are hoping many charities will apply for this year’s fund,” explains METS Domain Manager, Irene Dros. “Next to the money, the charity benefits from international recognition by association with DAME.”

To date, the DAME Award – which is the most respected annual industry reward for innovative leisure marine product design – has raised approximately €18,000 for worthy causes each year. The annual donation varies according to the number of entries registered.

Last year, AMREF, Flying doctors received the donation. AMREF is the designated charity of Amsterdam RAI and therefore receives the DAME donation in even years.

Charities interested in applying will find the terms and conditions, and an application form at metstrade.com/METS 2013. All applications must be received by 26 April and will be assessed by the Exhibition Committee in May.

The DAME donation will be announced and presented at the Breakfast Briefing on the morning of 19 November, the official opening day of METS 2013.

Yachts that are designed and/or built in the Netherlands are eligible for the Nautique Awards. Design, implementation, innovation, sailing performance, ergonomics and practical use of the yacht are decisive for the granting of the awards.

The Ribbon 45 SC yacht tender wins the award in category ‘Motor yachts up to 15 meters’. The jury describes the Ribbon 45 SC as follows: “This yacht leads the way in a new direction of the Dutch yachting industries, boldness and innovation. The design is cosmopolitan and dynamic. Thanks to her sailing performance and high speed, this yacht will especially attract an international audience. The sailing practice is not forgotten, a thick fender prevents scratches and dings on this bold design”.

Motor yacht NED 70 wins in the category ‘Motor yachts from 15-25 meters’. The jury describes the NED 70 as follows: “The NED 70 is an aluminum seagoing yacht with a low displacement level which makes her very fuel efficient. The engines are relatively small, but the range is enormous. The NED 70 is an ultra modern yacht, with a promising light and spacious interior. Despite her sleek lines, the yacht is sturdy and able to beach on a sandbank”.

The philosophy behind the Nautique Dutch Glory Awards contacts with the slogan of Dutch industry: ‘Think yachts, think Holland’. As a team Vripack is very proud that its work has been rewarded with no less than two awards!

January 04, 2013

These new long range Explorer-type of yachts will fit those who spend long hours on the water. The designs have the appeal, the comfort and the technological advantages of the STORM S-series.

About STORM 78
The design concept for the all-Dutch STORM 78 yacht is focused on offering four key assets to up to six people: great looks, superior comfort, lots of space and the latest technology. It looks forward to a time where “quality of life” will be more important to men and women alike, incorporating this philosophy into every aspect of the design.

Luxury yacht STORM 78 has an instant attraction thanks to her exceptionally powerful design. Inspiring pure emotions that speak to the heart, she is aimed at owners looking to make a clear statement of intent by opting for something different from the norm. The shaping and profile of a motoryacht is essential to stimulate and nourish our senses. This is how a design adds value, and the authentic and robust looks of the STORM 78 speak a genuinely distinctive design language.

A great deal of thought has also gone into the way the STORM 78 yacht functions. The vessel has been designed to maximise the space available to six adults. With a superyacht-like aft deck and a superlative main saloon, the options for peaceful lounging are many.

The flybridge has a second steering position, a customisable cockpit and room enough for everyone to sit together, sunbathe and relax while admiring the vista of the fjords or St. Tropez. There is also a multi-functional area that can be used, for example, to house a tender.

The all-aluminium STORM 78 yacht is a fast A-class yacht with a top speed of 26 knots. She has a considerable range and would even be suitable for a circumnavigation. The innovative and efficient propulsion technology is future-proof and ensures an excellent sailing performance. And the STORM epitomises the very highest standards of Dutch design, engineering and construction in every respect.

The complete exhibition programme for the HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show, which takes place from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 10 March 2013 in Amsterdam RAI, will be announced shortly.

At the heart of the promenade and its comfortable terraces will be a catwalk where fashionable products available in the shopping centre will be featured throughout the day.

DIY and maintenance on Demo Square
Another new feature is the Demo Square, a more professional and larger-scale version of the successful workshop and demonstration programme that has traditionally taken place on the Maintenance Square. The interactive programme will include themes such as carpentry, sanding, varnishing and upholstery throughout the day. Returning elements in the 2013 programme include popular activities such as the Sail Theatre and the Water Fun Zone with its large basin and diving tank.

Start of the watersport season
The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show traditionally marks the beginning of the watersport season. In addition to the maritime shops and comprehensive activity and information programme, the exhibition features hundreds of boats that are mostly ready for delivery. The RAI will feature the largest offer of launches and speedboats in the Netherlands, from small and low-priced to large, luxurious and super-fast. There will also be a unique range of open sailboats and day sailers for those who prefer cruising or a more competitive day on the water. And the show will present a vast collection of parts and accessories for every type of boat and watersport enthusiast.

New opening dates and times

The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show 2013 will be open from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 10 March, which means it starts one day later than previous editions. There will be an extra evening added to the programme on Wednesday 6 March. The opening hours have been changed to meet the wishes of the visitors; weekdays from 11.00 to 22.00, and in the weekend from 10.00 to 18.00.

Reduced ticket prices

Tickets for the 2013 event will cost € 2.50 less than in 2012, available online for € 12.50 and on the door for € 15.00. Children up to the age of 16 can enter free of charge. Developed with exhibitors and visitors

The innovations at the watersport exhibition were developed in cooperation with exhibitors and visitors. Innovating and improving the event is high on the agenda of the organisers, which is why Amsterdam RAI has had intensive meetings with the various stakeholders over recent months in order to ensure the event is even more attractive.

New clients for Yachting Pages at METS 2012

December 03, 2012

The largest in the event’s 25 year history, Amsterdam’s Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS), along with Global Superyacht Forum 2012 were very successful for Yachting Pages as well as other marine businesses. Taken place from November 13th to 15th, the 25th edition of METS offered a unique opportunity to network with plenty of new and existing clients.

METS2012Logo

Yachting Pages is a market-leading directory for the superyacht industry. Many of METS’ 1,318 exhibitors already feature in its print directories, which are hand-delivered to superyacht decision-makers, captains and crew in over 90 countries worldwide.

Jessica Pegg, Yachting Pages’ sales team leader, said, “We sent a robust sales team who spent a very busy three days meeting with long-term clients as well as many new ones. Attendance levels offered a real vote of confidence for the industry.”

METS visitor figures were higher than last year at 19,617, with exhibitor numbers down only marginally compared to 2011’s record-breaking 1,331. International visitors were up 2%.

With added attractions like the buzzing Superyacht Pavilion and well-attended Global Superyacht Forum 2012, this 25th anniversary exhibition was the organisers’ largest to date.

Jessica added, “METS was an unadulterated success. We went to do business and several deals were struck. The networking and social events buoyed the atmosphere yet further. The majority of exhibitors seemed thrilled with sales, champing at the bit to book space for 2013.”

Organisers confirmed that an unprecedented 43% of exhibitors had indeed pre-booked stand space for next year’s event before the show’s end.

Craig Dallison, yacht marketing manager at Awlgrip attended the event and said, “As always it matched up to our expectations and has once again been a good exhibition for us to meet with customers old and new. Overall, it felt very positive for Awlgrip.” Yachting Pages’ customer Awlgrip is a leading global supplier of topside finishing systems.

Irene Dros, METS domaine manager, said
, “High attendance levels reinforced the fact that the concept of METS, stands firm. There could have been no greater vote of confidence for our 25th anniversary event.”

METS is organized by Amsterdam RAI in association with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations. Its independently audited visitor numbers are calculated in accordance with the rules of the UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry.

This year, Oceanair’s UK distributor International Marine Products (IMP) were the winners of the Golden Blind; Andy Smith, Oceanair’s Product Manager at IMP received the award on behalf of the company.

Oceanair chose IMP due to their continued hard work, focus and performance across all of Oceanair’s market sectors: including superyachts, OEM, retail, and the technical aftermarket.

Notable achievements for IMP this year included the management of two superyacht projects; installing Oceanair products throughout (charter yacht Light Blue and SY Adele 2). Furthermore, IMP fully embraced Oceanair’s newly launched retail product range, successfully rolling it out across the UK placing stands in chandleries and establishing the range online.
