65.5m Amels 212 luxury yacht IMAGINE – the first superyacht in the world with Green Passport by Lloyds Register

May 03, 2012

Lloyds Register has recently recognised the Green Passport initiative, implemented on the new 65.5m Amels 212 motor yacht Imagine, launched in 2011 by the respected Dutch shipyard, Amels Yachts. Being presented for the very first time this month in Vlissingen, Holland the Imagine superyacht will be the first luxury vessel in the world to receive a Green Passport by Lloyds Register.

The Green Passport – or Inventory of Hazardous Materials – was devised as a result of the Hong Kong International Convention of Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships 2009. Qualification for the Green Passport requires the builder to put together a highly detailed list which identifies and locates all the materials that have been used in the yacht’s construction.

Amels Project manager, Sjoerd van den Broek, commented: “Fulfilling all the requirements for the Green Passport has entailed a very large effort from Amels over the past three years and also for all the suppliers and contractors involved in building the Amels 212. Hopefully she will sail for more than a hundred years but at the end of her life on the sea, her materials can be recycled in a controlled and environmentally responsible manner.”

Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid motor yacht by Palumbo Shipyard

March 21, 2012

The Palumbo Shipyard has signed a contract for the construction of a 40m yacht, the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid superyacht. The Shipyard is also building another 60m superyacht called the Columbus Classic 200’. Born to meld together the love and passion for the together with the respect of marine environment, the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid yacht was designed to reduce at maximum pollution and fuel consumption.

M/Y Columbus 130’ Hybrid will measure 40 meters in length and 8.20 meters a beam, stretching over three decks with very impressive internal volumes. She will be built under RINA classification in compliance with MCA. Palumbo entrusted Hydro Tec Naval Architecture with the naval architecture of the on Columbus 130 Sport Hybrid with the Interior Design by Hot Lab.

The windows of the main saloon are particularly large allowing for plenty of natural light. It also enables the Owner and the guests to feel close and connected to the sea thanks to two large sliding windows/doors and opening bulwarks.

The yacht will feature three guest cabins plus the Owner suite for a total of 8 guests plus 1 and 3 crew cabins plus one captain cabin.

The interior shows a combination of “warm” materials with soft colours avoiding any strong contrast. Marbles such as Breccia Sarda and Emperador Dark will be matched together with Teak, Sicomoro wood and grey durmast. Leather, polished stainless steel and precious fabrics will complete the mood board. The yacht will have several “convertible” areas that can be changed according the number of the guests on board.

A spectacular flybridge with an extraordinary autonomy and modern exterior styling are the main characteristics of this new fabulous Columbus130’ Hybrid yacht.

The Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid motor yacht is really an innovative concept that melds new lines and high technology together with the respect for the marine environment. It is in fact very well known how the respect for the marine environment is important for Palumbo, who received the RINA Green Star Plus award for motor yacht Prima by the Prince Albert II at the presence of his guest His Majesty the King of Spain.

The Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid boat will comply to the latest IMO MARPOL regulations and will be equipped with a bilge water separator even if not requested by class. The most environmental friendly feature is the hybrid system itself. This permits to have a slow navigation with Main Engines turned off and just two generators running. It’s well known that Generators have a low impact on environment due to the fact that their engines run at fixed rpm thus reducing NOx and SOx emission.

Both the hull with a semi-displacement type, and the superstructure are in aluminum, thought to reduce the weight and the consumption. The yacht also has an optional diesel electric hybrid propulsion system, constructed with the intention of having a minimal impact on the environment with a comfortable cruising range of 5,000 nm.

The Hybrid system that will be used on Columbus 130 Sport Hybrid consists basically of two electric engines connected to the gear box. This allows to have electrical navigation for a maximum speed of 7.5 kn getting power from Generators, and to generate electrical energy while in navigation on Main Engines.

foredeck of the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid motor yacht by Palumbo Shipyard

The Hybrid system can be useful for quiet night navigation because being electrical, the engines are very silent. The Electric Engines can also be very useful during manoeuvring in port even while having the Main Diesel Engines turned off. Another very important feature is the power generation during navigation,  enabling low maintenance costs on Diesel Generators and fuel consumption.

Notwithstanding the relatively small size of the boat, very large internal volumes (Internal Volume is 1400 m3 abt.) along with some special features, such as a beach club on the stern, will give the perception that you are on board a much bigger yacht. What the Shipyard and the Owner tried to reach is a solution able to create a boat that would remain a boat allowing the Owner and the crew to feel the real sensation of the sea and of its beauty.

Palumbo, as a result of the great experience with the superyacht Prima, will build these yachts with its same young team. The passion for the sea and for the boats in general is the leit motiv that ties the entire team together.

Each detail of the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid yacht has been carefully studied by the Shipyard together with the Owner with the aim to realize a yacht with an elegant and refined style.

M/Y Phoenix² is by no means a sequel to the original 60m superyacht Phoenix that was launched at Lürssen in 2004. She was carefully designed and constructed to ensure that the essence of the original yacht has been kept, but as her new name appropriately suggests, she has been ‘squared’ in both her complexity and size making her a much bigger, better and more beautiful yacht.

Due to the success of the original yacht Phoenix, her owner employed the same designers and builders to construct the Phoenix 2 yacht which includes Andrew Winch Designs and the Lürssen shipyard.

Luxury Super Yacht Phoenix 2′s exterior was designed by Andrew Winch Designs, producing an elegant and contemporary line, complemented by more than 100 metres of stainless steel handrails. The Lürssen yacht Phoenix II’s interior boasts the imaginative use of furnishings, fabrics and furniture, influenced by the New York 1930’s era, which is also incorporated into her carefully designed unique general arrangement.

Special features of the PHOENIX 2 include a cinema located on the lower deck and a fully equipped Spa deck offering Gymnasium, Hamman, Spa room with massage table and beauty salon. An elevator connects all levels, running from the lower deck up to the bridge deck.

The yacht Phoenix 2 is able to accommodate up to 12 charter guests in beautifully appointed guests areas that have been designed to offer an immense volume. The master stateroom is a full beam Deco Duplex apartment that provides unrivalled and undisturbed views out to sea. A private staircase joins the two floors together whilst a private foredeck complete with Jacuzzi offers exterior privacy to the client. The VIP Cabin transforms into a full beam suite with private sea terrace and bathing platform. The yacht has a further 5 beautifully appointed guests cabins each with ensuite facilities.

Motor yacht Phoenix 2’s social areas are spacious and include large an elegant main salon complete with a custom Steinway piano and a formal dining area. The CMN motor yacht ONE concept, presented in preview at the 2011 Abu Dhabi Yacht Show, features innovative exterior fluid lines creating an effect of subtle elegance. The impressive vertical bow ending on the long foredeck which meets the superstructures far aft contributes to creating a slender profile of the stunning superyacht ONE.

The hull allows good sea keeping, performance and stability characteristics following extensive tank testing.

By her unique design, the super yacht ONE has the volume of much larger yachts of around 70 to 75 m, allowing her a very high end level of services but still with the ability to reach remote places and entering small harbours.

Arisen from the pencil of CMN Design team, the luxury yacht ONE was designed to meet the needs and desires of the future generation of yacht owners.

The general arrangement is in adequacy with the new trends of on board living without compromising functionality: the multiplication of the IN-OUT arrangements for a totally unique layout allows living a fabulous experience with the outside environment, the sea, the sky and the horizon.

The aft upper deck is fully dedicated to the owner with a master suite of 74m² and a large terrace of 26m² including a private Jacuzzi. Adjacent to the master suite are two VIP suites and the owner’s office.

The Project ONE yacht proposes a massage room, a sauna, a hammam as well as a wine cellar.

The sun deck forward offers a large swimming pool surrounded by sun pads, a lounge, a bar, a dining room and sunbathing deck chairs.

The Project ONE can be fitted with hybrid propulsion. She will achieve a maximum speed of 16 knots with two 1640 kW diesel engines and 6 knots with the electric auxiliary motors. A full diesel electric propulsion system could also be fitted.

Heesen Yachts deliver SERENITY superyacht

January 25, 2012

Heesen Yachts are happy to announced the delivery of their largest displacement vessel to date – the motor yacht SERENITY. Launched in December, 2011, superyacht SERENITY has undergone intensive testing in the rough water of the North Sea and her delivery has been recently completed.

M/Y Serenity is a 55m milestone in this Dutch Shipyard’s history: Heesen Yachts was already a world leader in the design, engineering and construction of all-aluminium, semi-displacement fast yachts in 1992 when they entered the traditional steel displacement yacht market with the launch of the 50metre motor yacht Achiever in collaboration with Oceanco. Since then they have successfully built 15 long-range full-displacement vessels, confirming their ability in this very competitive field. Their order book currently runs until 2015 and includes three full-displacement vessels.

The elegant exterior lines of the superyacht SERENITY have been drawn by the creative pencil of Frank Laupman and express the typical Heesen style with its ‘pelican beak’ bow – a negative sheer that is their trademark. In-house Heesen naval architects worked closely with Van Oossanen and Associates to create this well-founded hull with a trans-oceanic range of 6,000Nm at 10 knots. Perry van Oossanen, from Van Oossanen and Associates comments: “The hull form of YN 15555, MY Serenity, is the final development of the Heesen displacement hull form, which has already proven itself over the last 10 years. It is a good, comfortable and seaworthy hull, with a well-designed “traditional” flared bow, allowing for a minimum of green water on deck.”

Sea trials in severe weather conditions proved the design’s worth during the month of December 2011. “We had a typical winter sea trial on the North Sea with force 6-7 winds and 3m swells. It was commented by all onboard how well the boat handled in a big sea. She easily exceeded her design speed so overall I am very happy that we will deliver a yacht that will be well suited for world travelling as she was designed for.” Hans Doodkorte, Owner’s technical manager.

Luxury motor yacht Serenity’s contemporary interior, with classic touches, has been designed by Frank Laupman from Omega Architects. High gloss and polished maple with burled maple veneers have been used throughout the vessel for both panelling and cabinetry. Eleven different types of marble, including calacatta marble, Iranian gold onyx, fiorito and breccia paradiso have been carefully and skilfully crafted into concave and convex curves as well as being cut extremely thinly. The use of blond veneer and creamy toned stones combine to give a light and airy feel to the spacious interior. This peaceful and harmonious atmosphere is further enhanced by bespoke glass decorations. A leafy motif has been used for decorating the top of the partition that divides the main saloon into lounging and dining areas, while the ceiling above the bed in the Owner’s stateroom has been re-imagined as a sky adorned with fluffy clouds. The motifs were designed by Omega Architects and created by Glass Déco artisans by gluing together multiple glass and mirror layers. This celestial atmosphere also resonates in the name the Owner has chosen for his vessel.

Twelve guests are amply accommodated in six cabins aboard Serenity yacht. The Owner’s suite is traditionally located on the main deck forward, but its layout is right up-to-date; a vast circular master bedroom boasts balconies on both sides and floor-to-ceiling windows bathing it in light. A studio plus bathroom with a sumptuous central oval bath tub and adjacent shower stall completes the master suite. The lower deck accommodates the guests: the full-beam VIP cabin has a full-sized tub, the two double and two twin cabins have shower rooms. Guests can choose between sun and shade, heat or cool on the sundeck. As well as having sun-bathing pads and a mosaic custom Jacuzzi pool outside, there is also an enclosed spa area complete with steam bath, sauna and massage room.

Onboard, customisation to meet the needs and desires of the yacht owner was key to bringing the DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER yacht into a class of her own, with a brief to ensure a layout that offers maximum guest satisfaction in terms of space, style, service and comfort, with a view to making her an ultra-successful charter yacht. The customisation of the project included the arrangement of the cabins, the location of the wheelhouse, the interior decor and the addition of a top deck above the flybridge to create a private panoramic deck 12m above sea level. Under the hood the engine room gleams in full stainless steel and chrome, the Schottel pump-jet propulsion system gives her an enviable mobility as well as Dynamic Positioning Capability.

The spacious interior layout comprises two panoramic master suites and four guest staterooms, a guest elevator to all decks, a full beam sky lounge and vast open and shaded deck spaces. Of particular note is the additional top deck, located above the sun deck, which is also served by the central elevator. The aft part of the sun-deck also allows easy touch and go helicopter operations.
