Wider Yachts is currently working on the construction of the striking superyacht Wider 150′, scheduled for launch in summer 2015. Luxury motor yacht Wider 150’ takes inspiration from the sea itself, immense and limitless, whose nature is an irresistible invitation to never, ever stop.

A yacht with extraordinary proportions that reminds one of the elegant vessels of the early 20th century, luxury yacht Wider 150’ combines luxury accommodations with highly innovative solutions – some of them not even available for yachts measuring over 200’ – to offer excellence and refinement onboard a highly technological, cutting-edge naval platform. Behind this incredible project are noted designer Fulvio De Simoni in collaboration with highly experienced yacht builder, Wider President and CEO Tilli Antonelli and his team, who have always focused on continuous research and “going beyond the boundaries” to produce yachts with dynamic performance and excellent onboard comfort, enhanced by sophisticated and yet user-friendly technology, and special attention to details.

LOW-CONSUMPTION DIESEL/ELECTRIC PROPULSION
The beating heart of the Wider 150’ project is the diesel/electric propulsion system, which guarantees hugely reduced fuel consumption and nearly unprecedented range. This system has made it possible to replace the traditional Engine Room with a Power Generator Room and to relocate it to the bow; the resulting space in the finest area of the ship therefore can be used to create larger, more comfortable guest cabins. In addition, a Technical Room is placed astern to house the LiPo battery pack. Emerson Industrial automation, which like Wider is an international leader in bringing technology and engineering together to create innovative solutions for its clients, will supply the electric propulsion system for the Wider 150’ superyacht.

The overall propulsion system is completely modular: the yacht can cruise using only the battery packs, in ZEM mode (Zero Emission Mode). With up to four diesel generators online, it will be able to operate at a higher range of speeds while maintaining limited specific consumptions.

All the onboard energy sources are controlled by the Wider Management System, a last generation, smart, independent and incorporated system that controls the power supplied by the shore connection, gensets and battery packs, distributing it between the Hotel systems, propulsion system and recharging the battery packs, as needed.

In addition, the luxury yacht Wider 150’ is equipped with an AziPod propulsion system that affords significant advantages compared to a conventional shaftline system: vibrations are reduced (even when reversing), handling is ultra-smooth, and no rudders are needed for maneuvering therefore draft is minimal. Furthermore, the yacht’s aluminum displacement hull offers unquestionable added value in terms of higher speeds and a greater range.

CUSTOMIZATION AND GREEN MATERIALS
The yacht’s design focuses on the intelligent use of onboard spaces, improving systems integration, and offering a reduction in emissions and consumption without underestimating the importance of easy maintenance. For these reasons, the material chosen for the entire construction of the Wider 150’ is aluminum, a noble, durable metal that, being particularly lightweight, makes it possible to increase the performance/consumption ratio of the yacht and achieve a considerable reduction in emissions which, combined with the fact that aluminum is completely recyclable, helps to lower the vessel’s footprint on the environment. Aluminum provides also greater freedom during construction as it increases the opportunity to customize, yet considerably shortens production times. This material is not just lightweight, it is also resistant and flexible, versatile, supple, yet sturdy, resulting in an even safer yacht.

TIMELESS DESIGN AND EXCLUSIVE VOLUMES
Wider 150’ is characterized by extremely clean lines and polished surfaces. The aesthetic balance of the yacht’s design mirrors the project’s overall balance, conveying harmony between ship and sea, both for the comfort of life onboard and lowering its environmental impact.

The size of the transom area is extraordinary for a yacht of this length and contributes substantially to making life in direct contact with the sea even more pleasant, in keeping with the Wider spirit. Spaces that typically would be used as technical areas on other yachts are transformed instead into inviting exterior lounges where owners and guests can relax and recreate at sea level.  The innovative design of the yacht’s incorporates a beautiful indoor swimming pool and large “Wider Beach”.

All other details of the yacht also emphasize direct contact with the great outdoors, beginning with the large glazed surfaces that open out onto each deck, bringing huge amounts of light indoors. The interiors mirror the clean lines of the exterior spaces, enhanced by the carefully studied selection of a few dominant colors as well as by alternating polished and opaque surfaces.

The upper deck encompasses a skylounge and casual dining area adjacent to large windows that are designed to ‘disappear’, allowing access to the side terraces. This groundbreaking Wider design allows a continuous dialogue between indoors and outdoors. The captain’s cabin is located aft of the  bridge, enabling him or her to have complete control of the ship at all times.

The main deck features a well-equipped exterior cockpit and a large interior salon that is split into two living areas. Forward lies the master suite, which stretches out across the entire beam of the yacht.

Large windows draw huge amounts of light into this area and offer unparalleled panoramic views. Moreover, the master stateroom can be divided into two separate areas by closing a sliding partition. Just aft is an ensuite salon/office where the hull side opens outwards to create a beautiful private terrace overlooking the sea in true Wider fashion.

The forward portion of the lower deck is designated for the crew quarters and various service areas. A separate stairway accesses the guest accommodations, comprising four spacious staterooms with en-suite heads positioned in the finest area of the ship. Thanks to external stairs and large walkways between decks, the yacht offers the innovative capability to walk from bow to stern via only external areas without having to go through closed, air-conditioned zones.

THE WIDER TENDER AND BEACH

The brand new Wider 32’ is housed in the transom garage. Thanks to her highly customizable layout, and accessories, along with her sporty performance, she is, to all effects and purposes, an extension of the Wider 150’ and not simply a tender. She is specially designed to guarantee that owners enjoy maximum comfort even during their excursions outside the mother ship. The yacht features a floating launching system for carrying out entry/exit maneuvers with the floating tender. The space that is freed up after the tender’s launch can be ‘magically’ transformed into a seawater swimming pool surrounded by the Wider Beach by opening of two side wings and lowering the platform.

The foredeck design provides enclosed housing for the crew tender and the water toys. This part of the superyacht also is engineered for extreme versatility, as it features a large, comfortable, yet unexpected patio that appears in just a few seconds when the upper section of the deckhouse is elevated. Yet another exterior space that enhances the owners’ and guests’ connection to the sea, it offers an area of complete privacy when the yacht is in port, as well as a great view while at anchor.

HULL NUMBER ONE
The first unit of Wider 150’ yacht is now in build in the new shipyard in Ancona. The start of construction was preceded by a series of fundamental technical tests, including a program of tank tests, followed by paint flow and self-propulsion tests. The results of these tests have confirmed the high expectations of the Yard and the validity of Wider’s innovative technological solutions.

At this stage, 80% of the hull has been built, including the bow section which is a distinctive feature of the Wider 150’ and represents another significant construction milestone. As the vessel rapidly takes shape – the superstructure is going to be completed within two months – the Wider Technical Department is being kept busy fine-tuning executive drawings and implementing modifications designed to improve the final product. The finest suppliers have been sourced, and delivery schedules are being drawn up to move steadily towards completion, aiming to launch the superyacht next summer 2015.
