Chinese superyacht builder Sunbird Yachts won a US$5oo,o0o contract to design a 60m (198ft) motor yacht for a Chinese client. The news follows the recent signing of a new-build contract for the 30m sailing yacht Dream Cat, which will be the biggest catamaran built in China.

“This is our biggest project so far and we intend to work with industry leaders worldwide to provide the best solutions for the client’s boating requirements,” says Sunbird CEO Li Yue Xian. “Such areas will include structural design, acoustic controls, interior and exterior styling.”

The 60m motor yacht designed by Sunbird Yachts will feature full composite structures, with carbon and Kevlar fibres as required and a large transom for cars and water sport toys .

Sunbird Yachts are thriving within the fast growing China luxury yacht market and are said to be China’s largest builder of FRP boats with a competitive advantage over foreign builders. The Chinese government requires that all imported boats pay a 43% luxury tax and restricts their navigation areas.

Sunbird Yachts was founded in 1993 and is based in Hunan, China.
