Southern Wind has announced that sailing yacht SEATIUS, the second hull in the SW96 series, has headed off on her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean.

Exterior

Luxury yacht SEATIUS is a play on the Latin word CITIUS, which means ‘faster’; a name she lives up to with her performance-based design and long-distance cruising capacity using a small crew. Built for speed, she uses a fixed bowsprit, a Cariboni lifting keel and a twin rudder configuration for easy handling even in the roughest sea conditions. Full waterlines and straight end diagonals further enhance her seaworthiness along with full forward sections and a wide, low transom.

A High Modulus carbon mast, EC6+ carbon rigging and a Park Avenue boom reduce her weight while also providing high endurance and responsiveness. The hull and deck sandwich a foam core between carbon fibre skins, resulting in excellent sound proofing and a weight of only 58,500 kg. As a result, S/Y SEATIUS is manoeuvrable even in light winds.

Double cabin

Massimo Gino of Nauta Design considered safety and comfort for long-distance cruising while taking her from semi-custom concept through to design: Carbon frame biminis shade the forward and aft cockpits, protecting from rain as well as intense sunshine. Other notable features include Flexiteek decking to further reduce her weight, and an inflatable dinghy wet locker aft of the crew island. In comparison to S/Y SORCERESS, SEATIUS has a hardtop to protect the guest cockpit for greater safety and privacy while on board.

Salon

“Differently from her sister (sailing yacht) SORCERESS, SEATIUS has two lateral sunbathing areas divided by a central passageway that runs on one level so that guests don’t have to climb over coamings or furnishings,” Gino explained. “This passageway also offers support when the yacht is heeled. A central island with a dodger protects the crew companionway and also has a seat where a crew member can keep watch during long transfers with an eye both on the yacht’s controls and on the sea.”

Salon 2

The interior layout is styled by Jeroen Machielsen from Studio Hermanides, a Dutch interior design team that has worked with the owner on previous projects. The Owner’s suite is placed forward, behind which is a sizeable VIP stateroom. A salon connects onto a TV lounge and a final cabin holding twin beds is positioned aft of the saloon. The crew also receive spacious accommodation, with a double Captain’s cabin, two crew cabins and a galley that connects to the crew mess.
