Attended by more than 400 guests and crew, Saturday evening at Pendennis Castle saw an amazing ceremony, announcing the results of the Racing Day 4 of the 2012 Pendennis Cup, the winner of each class as well as The Pendennis Cup.

The course set on Day 4 was more complex than previous days, but with a good 15-20knot wind the challenge was relished by the crews. Both Classes saw tight fought battles around the marks, along the reaches and to the finishing line, with a nail biting finish in the Class 2 Pendennis Cup fleet as sailing yacht Adela showed her speed gaining on superyacht Unfurled throughout to finish less than 30 seconds behind Unfurled. But it was luxury yacht Mariette’s day again on corrected time, snatching today’s victory from Breakaway and by doing so winning the overall title in the Pendennis Cup and the St Petroc Traditional fleet.

The smaller yachts have provided enthusiasts with a delightful spectacle throughout the week, and have been no less competitive than the larger yachts. Superyacht Mikado, Tomahawk and Firebrand were once more closely matched around the course, with Tomahawk and Firebrand completing the circuit about three minutes apart. However on corrected time it was Firebrand that took the honours and was crowned winner of the Little Dennis Cup.

It has been a fantastic week of sailing, with mixed conditions enabling all competitors to show their prowess. One of the most memorable finishes had to be superyacht Mariquita’s victory on Friday, showing her rig’s suitability to the lighter winds and using clever tactics to swoop ahead of Mariette on the final tack. Unfurled has been spectacular to watch with impressive speed and manoeuvrability. She has been first across the line in each race, and her second place in the Cup is testament to her competitiveness this week. Hopefully she will return to challenge the fleet in the next Pendennis Cup!

The mixed conditions and the eclectic fleet have provided a fantastic spectacle in Falmouth Bay and have proved that the Pendennis Cup is a great Regatta for both old and modern classics alongside contemporary performance yachts. The response from the crews has been fantastic, many citing the regatta as one of the most enjoyable in the regatta circuit, on and off the water.
