Benetti 61m FB253 luxury yacht Diamonds Are Forever: the largest vessel ever exhibited at Miami Boat Show

February 27, 2012

The prestigious Italian shipyard Benetti was present at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show with the largest vessel ever exhibited at this popular show, the 61m FB253 motor yacht Diamonds Are Forever. Featuring the concept design as well as exterior design by Azimut-Benetti with  interior and decoration by Evan K. Marshall / Usonia V, the Diamonds Are Forever superyacht represents an unmistakable, timeless modern classic, instantly recognisable as a trademark of Benetti motor yachts.

The elegant aesthetics of the new luxury yacht Diamonds Are Forever offers a contemporary interpretation of the exclusivity of luxury yachting, marked out by softly compact shapes and dynamically slim lines. The stand-out example of this is the vessel’s additional top deck, or rather an unusual fly bridge located above the sun deck, which forms a remarkable panoramic private deck.

In fact, at the Owner’s request, this space can be completely cut off from the routes and areas accessible to guests and crew, as it can only be reached via controlled access from the main staircase and the central elevator. Both of these provide access with a unique pop-up solution in an automated electrically powered glass lid.

On board, in its magnificent, spacious interior layout, the new superyacht Diamonds Are Forever will accommodate up to 12 passengers in four vast guest staterooms, a huge VIP suite and the majestic Owners’ stateroom. The vessel will also house up to 16 crew members in six snug crew cabins, a comfortable engineer’s cabin and the large captain’s cabin.

The interior design and decoration of the new Diamonds Are Forever were created by Evan K. Marshall / Usonia V, as with some of the other motoryachts previously built for the owner.

The richness of the interiors is genuinely impressive, luxuriously epitomising classic refinement. All the loose furniture has been custom designed by Evan K. Marshall to ensure maximum comfort and visual impact. The foyers on each deck of the new Diamonds Are Forever showcase the central spiral staircase and the cylindrical glass elevator; each foyer features a different combination of marble and onyx floor inlays, with burl wall panels framed by gold and silver leaf inlays.

On the main deck of the new yacht, the living and dining areas incorporate elegant pieces of loose furniture with design motifs inspired by the ship’s name. In a departure from typical yacht furnishings, the main pieces of furniture inboard of the windows appear to be free-standing and supported only by mirrored legs embedded with small crystal studs. The back-lit centre design elements on each of the freestanding pieces are made of glittering Swarovski crystals set in a polished chrome and gold-plated surround.

The lower deck layout of the 61m megayacht Diamonds Are Forever includes one twin stateroom and three double staterooms, two of which have walk-in wardrobes. The materials for the staterooms include elegant Madrona burl woods, gold and silver leaf inlays, rare marbles and onyx, and custom coloured and embossed leathers for the bulkhead.

The layout of the new Diamonds Are Forever also includes two unique master staterooms, both with large, panoramic forward-facing windows: the VIP master stateroom and the Owners’ master stateroom. The VIP master stateroom is on the main deck in the VIP suite, featuring a split-level layout and his and hers walk-in dressing rooms, an exercise room with adjoining sauna and a beauty salon with massage table. All of these spaces can be separated from the stateroom for use by other guests.

The Owners’ master stateroom is on the upper deck in the Owners’ apartment, which occupies half of the upper deck and includes an office suite connected to the sky lounge, a master bathroom with “floating” vanities suspended from mirrored walls, and a dressing room that doubles as an elegant Owners’ foyer or a private study.

The upper deck of the new Diamonds Are Forever yacht also includes the sky lounge, featuring a spectacular, unique automated indoor-outdoor dining area: the dining area can be fully opened up to the sky lounge as an “indoor” dining area, but at the flick of a switch two sets of electric doors separate it from the sky lounge and open it up to the aft cockpit, instantly creating an “outdoor” dining area.

The living area of the sky lounge occupies the full beam of the boat: this space boasts a low bar and a grand piano, set in mixed tones of Birch burl woods with silver and gold leaf accents. In the Diamonds Are Forever’s sky lounge, against custom back-lit glass and mirror diases in each of the four niched corners – inspired by the famous Quattro Fontane in Rome – there are four original sculptures showcasing John Staluppi’s passion for the sculptures of the great Erté, pseudonym of Romain de Tirtoff, the last great master of Art Nouveau and Art Déco.

The work of this exceptional set and costume designer, graphic designer, fashion stylist, sculptor and jewellery designer is a constant throughout the last century. In all likelihood, the sculptures are from the America Series quartet, inspired by a profound faith in the American commitment to the values expressed by the titles of the sculptures: “Liberty”, “Fearless and Free”, “Peace” and “Justice”. Created at the beginning of the 1980s by the imaginative talent of Erté at the age of 90, these four sculptures were produced using a bronze alloy casting technique, and they are part of a very limited edition. In the interiors of Diamonds Are Forever, diamonds are everywhere.

Benetti is one of the world’s oldest builders of megayachts. Founded in Viareggio in 1873 by Lorenzo Benetti, the shipyard started out building wooden, masted barks for local and international commercial purposes, quickly earning its reputation as an industry leader worldwide.

In 1985, Azimut opened a new chapter in Benetti history. The purchase of the Tuscan boatyard signalled a new era of management and capital investment that has made Benetti what it is today: a modern, cutting-edge shipyard ready to meet the challenges of the future, able to offer its owners the world’s most exclusive and refined yachts.

Since then, Benetti’s growth has outpaced that of any other competitor in the sector; it makes over 130 yachts and specialises in the production of semi-custom ranges from 93 to 145 feet as well as completely custom steel and aluminium megayachts of over 45 metres.

In 2003, the Azimut-Benetti Group S.p.A. took over the Cantieri Navali Fratelli Orlando in Livorno, launching a major industrial plan to create a facility specialised in pleasure boating alongside the revitalisation of an urban area and tourist port.

Since 2004 Benetti has been worldwide considered as the leader in mega yacht production.

Record-breaking Miami Boat Show 2012 for Azimut-Benetti Group’s Megayacht division

February 27, 2012

Important news for Benetti and Azimut Grande at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show, where the division of the Azimut-Benetti Group building 30 + metre boats presented three new luxury vessels: the Benetti Classic 121 motor yacht Domani and the FB253 Diamonds Are Forever superyacht as well as the Azimut Grande 116 luxury yacht Cinque. Benetti also announced the start of construction on a new 90 metre steel and aluminium vessel, while Azimut Grande has started works on a new 140 foot trideck planing model.

For Benetti, the new offerings exhibited at the event were the classic 121 superyacht Domani and the FB 253 luxury yacht Diamonds Are Forever. The first of these is one of the six Benetti Class line jewels produced at the historic shipyard location in Viareggio; a shipyard where – thanks to the recent inauguration of a second manufacturing area (at the Lucca dockyard) – there are 14 vessels in construction.

The FB253 luxury yacht Diamonds Are Forever, on the other hand, is a Benetti vessel custom built at the brand-new shipyard in Livorno where 12 models from 46 metres and up are currently under construction. The aluminium and steel megayacht was launched at the end of November 2011. As soon as she reached her owner, she set out again, this time for the Miami International Boat Show where she made her world debut.

Benetti FB253 megayacht Diamonds Are Forever

With a length of 61 metres and four decks, the megayacht Diamonds Are Forever was the star of the event in addition to being the biggest vessel ever exhibited at an American boat show.

It was a distinction which the shipyard and the yacht’s famous owners John and Janette Staluppi celebrated on opening night with a private party onboard; the party had a James Bond theme, fitting since the vessel takes its names from one of the adventure film saga’s titles.

For Azimut Grande – Azimut’s most exclusive range of 30 + metre planing yachts – there is news on both sides of the Atlantic. While the new Azimut Grande 116 Cinque yacht drew admiration in the US at the Miami boat show, in Viareggio, Italy another unit from the same series was being launched. They are two masterpieces where the Azimut Grande design philosophy really outdoes itself: from layout to the interior styling, Azimut Grande 116’ tells a unique story which is true portrait of the personalization requirements of its owner down to the last detail.

However, the megayacht division news does not end with the boat show: during the awaited press lunch with the American industry press, Benetti officially announced that work was starting on the brand-new custom 90 metre yacht in steel and aluminium, and that Azimut Grande was starting construction of a new 140’ trideck planing model.

A series of innovations which confirm once again the success and vitality of the megayacht division, able to offer boat owners a one of a kind manufacturing experience designed to meet the specific requests of the owners, the highest expression of “Made in Italy” for quality of materials and craftsmanship as well as for ongoing after-sales customer service available in every corner of the globe.

The Azimut Benetti Group, which has specialised in the offering of boats and services for 42 years, has always stood out for its strong innovative capabilities, which today make it the world leader in integrated boating services: products from 35’ to 300’, and 360° services for its customers.

These are the very things that make the Azimut Benetti Group the only private player in the boating industry with a compound annual growth rate over 10 years by 16% of the turnover, net assets of EUR 300 million, no liabilities to banks or financing institutions, and the ability to make an investment of more than EUR 80 million in new models and service for the next three years.

The ambitious design brings together Azimut’s recognised technological leadership in high-performance boat building with Benetti’s experience in developing custom solutions and managing customer relations during the different construction phases: Azimut Grande has benefited from Benetti’s expertise in advanced design and construction technologies in the mega yacht sector, and boat owners now have a wide range of options thanks to Benetti’s semi-custom boat production.

Owners of the Grande Collection models can build the boats of their dreams by taking an active part in fitting them out starting from the drawing board, even before construction commences at the Viareggio shipyard.

The magnificent 35.5m luxury yacht Cinque has been designed by Stefano Righini in perfect harmony with Azimut’s styling department, while the inside decoration was done by Carlo Galeazzi.

A combination, which has created a project guaranteeing the Azimut customers maximum flexibility, absolutely essential on a yacht of this size.

The external profile creates a slender, elegant yacht, whilst the interiors invite the owner to unleash his creativity; the saloon of the Azimut Grande 116 superyacht Cinque gives the owner an amazing 50 square metres where he can freely express his taste. Whatever the décor, it will reflect the personality of the owner and be his signature look.

The cockpit of the Cinque yacht is one of the most enchanting areas in the world, shaded from the sunshine thanks to the flybridge overhang, can accommodate up to 10 guests around a table. Refrigerator, ice maker, flat screen tv and many others the owner can configure the comfort level to his wishes.

On the main deck, the 7.4m beam of the yacht Cinque suggests choosing a table for 10-12 people to be positioned at the centre of the vessel. This location can be easily reached by the crew, who can lay the table and serve meals by accessing the adjoining and well insulated kitchen (integral part of the crew quarters).

Large elliptical full-height windows on the sides illuminate the main deck and the raised pilot house. Six large oval portholes illuminating the guest’s cabins characterize the lower deck.

The owner suite is located in the central section of the lower deck (in the optional version, in the bow section of the main deck) and it is possible to accommodate a customised area (media room etc.) on the main deck and access to the cabin is via a dedicated staircase.

Whatever the layout, the owners shall enjoy a cabin with optimum space, comfort and natural light. Two twin spacious VIP cabins look into the central lobby and are both equipped with large windows.

On the sundeck (more than 70 square metres) the perfect balance between sun and shade can be easily achieved using two independent bimini tops integrated in the hard top, which open electronically and can be used at sea. The stern hatch creates the swim area and allows hauling and launching a tender of over 5 metres as well as a jet sky.

The crew cabins are to prow of the lower deck and can be easily modified either with two or three cabins all with bathroom or with a dining area or a washing and ironing area.

All on board systems conform to the highest standards in terms of quality, comfort and security.

Caribbean Luxury Yacht Charter Holidays

Offering beautiful pristine beaches, warm weather, interesting cultures and ocean laden with treasures, from tiny beach ridden coral atolls to substantial mountainous islands exuding rich and colourful cultures, the popular Caribbean charter destination covers an area which is famous for its beautiful waterways and islands. There is no better way to experience the Caribbean than on a crewed luxury yacht charter vacation.

Relaxing on the beach

Relaxing on the beach

The main Caribbean sailing season runs from November through to July. The Caribbean primary high season is from mid-December to March, when the winter escapees from North America and Europe arrive in their greatest numbers. The hurricane season is from late July to early October, although hurricanes are in general rare in the southern Caribbean. Unfortunately, they can be prevalent around Cuba, Bahamas and the east coast of the U.S. every few years.

As with many boating locations the Caribbean shoulder season, in this case from April to July, is also a great time to charter a boat as there are less shore based visitors, some lovely settled sunny weather, and warm yet steady breeze. The Caribbean is made up of many different multi-nation (and multi-cultural) volcanic islands. There are amazing sailing grounds stretching from Cuba and Jamaica in the west, through the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands, The Leeward Islands and the Windward Islands, finishing with Trinidad and Tobago off the coast of Venezuela.

Other popular places to visit on a yacht charter include Antigua, St Barts, Anguilla, St Martin, The British Virgin Islands, The US Virgin Islands, the Grenadines and many more …

For more information and a full list of yacht available in the Caribbean this season, please contact our friendly and professional team at CharterWorld.

RAHMI M. KOÇ MUSEUM

TOPKAPI PALACE
The Topkapi Palace was the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years (1465 – 1856) of their 624-year reign. Azimut Yachts and Atlantis record strong sales at the 2012 Miami Boat Show

February 24, 2012

Azimut Yachts and Atlantis confirm “best seller” leadership in the Americas, following the conclusion of the 2012 Miami International Boat Show. They have recorded strong sales in the USA, Central and South America, demostrating that direct sales at boat shows are growing stronger. Azimut Yachts thus confirms its position as the No. 1 European importer in this market.

The Azimut 95 Superyacht

The Azimut 95 Superyacht

“Highly satisfied!” was the first on-the-spot comment by Marco Valle, Sales Director for Azimut Yachts and Atlantis, who returned to headquarters with 23 signed contracts, foremost among these the sale of an Azimut Yachts 95.

Also meeting with great satisfaction was Atlantis, the specialist for opens, which was in attendance at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show with its entire line, including two models – the 38 and the 58 yachts.

Likewise noteworthy are the recent sales and service agreements concluded with MarineMax and with a broad network of Azimut dealers in Central and South America, with the company achieving good sales success and making new contacts.

At the halfway point of the 2011/12 boating season, Azimut has reached 75% of total sales volume for the Americas generated over the entire 2010/11 season. The increase in sales, particularly in the United States, demonstrates how customers are always more motivated to purchase our products “due, on the one hand, to the loyalty built up over the years to the Azimut Yachts brand and, on the other, to continual product innovation and to all of the integrated services and customer support offered to owners,” said Paolo Casani, CEO of Azimut Yachts and Atlantis, during the traditional press lunch on the splendid terrace of the Soho Beach House.

Choosing Azimut Yachts also means being able to count on an on-site service network. Indeed, the Azimut USA Service Center has been in operation since 2004, guaranteeing that repairs are made in a timely manner, thanks also to a global Intranet system that immediately alerts the boatyard about requests for spare parts.

The strategic and network presence in the territory and the drive for continuous innovation have always been trademarks of Azimut Yachts, which now maintains representative offices in Brazil and China.

In terms of new product development, Azimut benefits from its own R&D department, which collaborates closely with universities and suppliers throughout the world, and it is able to rely on significant investment: EUR 25 million during the last three years alone, dedicated exclusively to new models.

The strategic importance of boating services has prompted the Azimut Benetti Group to dedicate an entire company to this business, Yachtique, where customers can have access to the most complete offerings available today in the world of yachting: Mooring Place, Crew Recruiting, Financing, Brokerage, Charter, and Styling lounge.
