The Styling Lounge has been fitted out with elegant storage cupboards, created by expert craftsmen from the Benetti shipyard. Each cupboard is a veritable Aladdin’s cave, full of beautiful fabric samples, leathers, woods, mosaics, tiles and marbles from the world’s top designers and craftsmen. It has been designed as a one-stop-shop for yacht owners to review, compare and select the finest materials on offer.

The showroom is finished in high-gloss lacquered Zebrano wood with cream leather furniture and smoked glass screens. Its classic elegance is in contrast to the already existing Styling Lounge, located just 50m away, which has a slightly more contemporary feel, and is used almost exclusively by Azimut customers.

“Our aim was to create the optimum environment where yacht buyers can immerse themselves in the creative process of interior design and styling. There are separate areas for laying out plans, reviewing samples, viewing renderings on large screens, working and relaxing” says Giulia Galanti, the manager overseeing both showrooms. She adds, “We can satisfy a myriad different tastes and preferences to piece together interiors that are an accurate reflection of the buyers’ character and personal style”.

Over 80 people attended the elegant reception last night, including captains, brokers as well as suppliers.

Asia-Pacific region – a preferred winter destination for Owners of Superyachts

January 26, 2012

Yacht Solutions is really looking forward to 2012 as the Asia-Pacific region is rapidly becoming one of the best winter destinations for Owners of Superyachts from across the world. Yacht Solutions is running projects in both Phuket and Bangkok and is happy to welcome back their returning customers to the region as well as working on a number of new build and major refit tenders for the year ahead.

SanLorenzo Motor Yacht Onyx

SanLorenzo Motor Yacht Onyx

The number of superyachts being transported to Phuket for the winter season is up 25 percent from last year and 2011 proved that it is becoming more common for owners to ship their vessel for long distances and then fly to their destination.

This was evident in November when Dockwise Yacht Transport’s combi lift ship ‘Combi 1’ arrived in Phuket with an unprecedented five superyachts on-board. This delivery is likely the largest single shipment of superyachts to Asia to date, and it represents a significant growth of superyacht numbers in the region. This is underscored by Dockwise’s comment that they will be increasing shipments to and from Asia. Two of the yachts delivered were to be based in the region full-time.  San Lorenzo motor yacht Onyx, was shipped here at the owners request to be sold. The captain explained Onyx superyacht’s owner felt her presence in Asia would expose her to a new market.

Heesen Yachts deliver SERENITY superyacht

January 25, 2012

Heesen Yachts are happy to announced the delivery of their largest displacement vessel to date – the motor yacht SERENITY. Launched in December, 2011, superyacht SERENITY has undergone intensive testing in the rough water of the North Sea and her delivery has been recently completed.

M/Y Serenity is a 55m milestone in this Dutch Shipyard’s history: Heesen Yachts was already a world leader in the design, engineering and construction of all-aluminium, semi-displacement fast yachts in 1992 when they entered the traditional steel displacement yacht market with the launch of the 50metre motor yacht Achiever in collaboration with Oceanco. Since then they have successfully built 15 long-range full-displacement vessels, confirming their ability in this very competitive field. Their order book currently runs until 2015 and includes three full-displacement vessels.

The elegant exterior lines of the superyacht SERENITY have been drawn by the creative pencil of Frank Laupman and express the typical Heesen style with its ‘pelican beak’ bow – a negative sheer that is their trademark. In-house Heesen naval architects worked closely with Van Oossanen and Associates to create this well-founded hull with a trans-oceanic range of 6,000Nm at 10 knots. Perry van Oossanen, from Van Oossanen and Associates comments: “The hull form of YN 15555, MY Serenity, is the final development of the Heesen displacement hull form, which has already proven itself over the last 10 years. It is a good, comfortable and seaworthy hull, with a well-designed “traditional” flared bow, allowing for a minimum of green water on deck.”

Sea trials in severe weather conditions proved the design’s worth during the month of December 2011. “We had a typical winter sea trial on the North Sea with force 6-7 winds and 3m swells. It was commented by all onboard how well the boat handled in a big sea. She easily exceeded her design speed so overall I am very happy that we will deliver a yacht that will be well suited for world travelling as she was designed for.” Hans Doodkorte, Owner’s technical manager.

Luxury motor yacht Serenity’s contemporary interior, with classic touches, has been designed by Frank Laupman from Omega Architects. High gloss and polished maple with burled maple veneers have been used throughout the vessel for both panelling and cabinetry. Eleven different types of marble, including calacatta marble, Iranian gold onyx, fiorito and breccia paradiso have been carefully and skilfully crafted into concave and convex curves as well as being cut extremely thinly. The use of blond veneer and creamy toned stones combine to give a light and airy feel to the spacious interior. This peaceful and harmonious atmosphere is further enhanced by bespoke glass decorations. A leafy motif has been used for decorating the top of the partition that divides the main saloon into lounging and dining areas, while the ceiling above the bed in the Owner’s stateroom has been re-imagined as a sky adorned with fluffy clouds. The motifs were designed by Omega Architects and created by Glass Déco artisans by gluing together multiple glass and mirror layers. This celestial atmosphere also resonates in the name the Owner has chosen for his vessel.

Twelve guests are amply accommodated in six cabins aboard Serenity yacht. The Owner’s suite is traditionally located on the main deck forward, but its layout is right up-to-date; a vast circular master bedroom boasts balconies on both sides and floor-to-ceiling windows bathing it in light. A studio plus bathroom with a sumptuous central oval bath tub and adjacent shower stall completes the master suite. The lower deck accommodates the guests: the full-beam VIP cabin has a full-sized tub, the two double and two twin cabins have shower rooms. Guests can choose between sun and shade, heat or cool on the sundeck. As well as having sun-bathing pads and a mosaic custom Jacuzzi pool outside, there is also an enclosed spa area complete with steam bath, sauna and massage room.

70m Motor Yacht PRIONA by Scott Henderson

January 25, 2012

Scott Henderson is an American product designer working in New York City. Known for his innovative consumer products in the areas of Houseware’s, Electronics, Furniture and his line of Museum Store gift objects called MINT, Scott has jumped into the world of Super Yacht Design with his 70m motor yacht PRIONA concept. The PRIONA superyacht, deriving her name from ‘Prionace Glauca’ or Blue Shark, is a gestural study on the exterior form of the vessel. The Blue Shark is one of the fastest and most efficient fish, generating speeds in excess of 70km per hour. Her elegant and powerful form communicates minimalism and extreme aquatic speed—seamless with the ocean after millennia of evolution.

The luxury yacht PRIONA’s form is uni-body. The hull emanates from the bow and travels back using a single surface. There is no break between the form elements on the PRIONA’s composition, the upper deck structure in the rear of the yacht and the side walls of the hull are derived from the same common surface. This gives the vessel a clean appearance, its visual statement absorbable at a glance. Rather than break up the two dominant formal elements, the hull and the living spaces that rest above the deck line the PRIONA avoids tasking the viewer with too much visual information, making the composition instantly iconic.

Inspired by the Blue Shark’s powerful gills, the sides of the super yacht PRIONA are sliced in continuous lines that form the vessel’s main decks and windows. The PRIONA appears to be taking in vast quantities of oxygen through these integrated vents, contributing to its powerful gesture.

Luxury motor yacht PRIONA - side view

The PRIONA yacht features an upper sundeck that is not disrupted by the Communications / Navigation Tower, as her tower cantilevers over the space without contacting the area of use. She also features two swimming pools, fore and aft, and a retractable swim deck that can store all manner of water toys and two Jet-skis.

PIONA Superyacht - front view

PRIONA Superyacht - front view

The top surface of PRIONA yacht is created by a continuous line that wraps the front tip of the bow and circles up and around the leading edge of the upper sundeck to the rear. Within this crisp, bold line, the top surface of the vessel exists as one flowing, continuous slope, traversable via a grand staircase that completely warps the entire perimeter.

Super Yacht PRIONA - rear view

The use of the grand staircase evokes old-world elegance and nautical charm, which when juxtaposed against the ultra contemporary feel of PRIONA, a powerful ‘twist’ captures the imagination, grounding the design by evoking the human element. When just glancing at an object immediately reveals it’s intended human interaction, an emotional connection to the object is made, transcending utility.

New Heesen 65m Motor Yacht due to be launched in 2013 with the Seakeeper M21000 Gyros

January 25, 2012

When a yacht builder premieres an excellent engineering advance, other components must be equally revolutionary. Twenty years in development, Heesen Yachts‘ Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) debuts on its new 65m motor yacht, the first of which is due to be launched in 2013. To provide underway and at anchor stabilization for the unique 65m superyacht design, Heesen has chosen Seakeeper M21000 gyros as standard equipment.

Heesen 65m Yacht - the world's first fast displacement yacht

Heesen 65m Yacht with the Seakeeper Gyros Standard - the world's first fast displacement vessel

Nearly a year into her construction at the Heesen shipyard, this is the world’s first fast displacement yacht. The recently-delivered Seakeeper gyros, 5 units for this 65m craft, will be installed with the assistance of Seakeeper’s Dutch distributor, Kemper en Van Twist Diesel.

Heesen’s FDHF incorporates features that affect hydrodynamic resistance over the entire speed range, such as the limited immersed transom, bulbous bow, trim control and spray rails for a 30% increase in hull efficiency. When paired with the yacht’s MTU M93L engines, it will have a 4,200 nm range with 20 knot cruising speeds and a top speed of 27 knots.

With such a unique hull design, it’s not possible to use external appendages, such as stabilizing fins, that could affect performance. Housed completely inside the lightweight, efficient Heesen hull, the Seakeeper gyros will provide power-saving stabilization while the yacht is underway, at zero speed or at anchor.

The powerful righting torque of each M21000 gyro results from a steel flywheel spinning at high speeds in a vacuum, within an aluminum housing. Drawing a miserly 3 kW at full speed, each gyro delivers 21,000 Newton meter seconds of angular momentum to achieve up to 80% roll reduction. This ensures owners and guests are comfortable, and safe, onboard in varying sea conditions.

Luxurious amenities on this remarkable Heesen yacht design include a duplex beach club, glass-bottom swimming pool, 10 sq.m side balcony, a vast sundeck, and accommodations for up to 12 guests in custom-built quarters. Seakeepers’ steadying force will be particularly appreciated on the touch-and-go helicopter deck and in the multiple yacht tender garages.
