Lurssen yacht APOISE Sold Superyacht Auction

Individuals took part in the superyacht auction from all over the world bidding on yacht APOISE. Bidders were either present in person or bided through a yacht sales broker or representative at the Ritz-Carlton Caymans. Some also participated by logging on online to the Ritchie Bros website.

Superyacht APOISE is a striking yacht that is able to accommodate as many as 14 passengers on board and has approximately 18 crew. She was designed by naval architects Lurssen and Espen Oeino and Zuretti Interior Design produced the interior design and styling. Yacht APOISE is This 67 metre (220 ft) LOA, was built by Lurssen of Germany in 2006 and received a refit in 2009.

The winning bid price to sell superyacht APOISE came in below the estimated worth of APOISE, which is around $87,000,000. There is some comment that a yacht broker could have achieved a higher price for the seller. However, Stephen Branch from Ritchie Bros. auction house is reported to have said that the superyacht auction was a full success:

“It was very good for us, the owner is extremely happy with the outcome”.

Dave Ritchie, the former Canadian owner of luxury yacht Apoise, and co-founder of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers previously commented: “I really believe in the auction system.”

Superyacht LUCIA M 39m is Launched – the First Motor Yacht by Jongert Yachts

March 31, 2010

Written by Mike Smith

The famous Dutch sailing yacht builder, Jongert Shipyards, has launched superyacht Lucia-M, a 39 metre motor yacht (type 3900MY) – their first major motor yacht.

This Photo of yacht LUCIA M is from Jongert Yachts and is by E.J. Bruinekool Fotografie

The Jongert motor yacht line – Lucia M being the first – was developed by the Jongert at the specific request of several of their yachting customers. It seems that many yachtsmen appreciate the design of the Jongert sailing yachts but prefer the size and interior space of a motor yacht.

Superyacht LUCIA M 39m is a fast semi-displacement aluminium yacht. The yacht’s new owner is a German hotel developer. Folkert Brongers, the general manager of Jongert Shipyards, is proud that two years ago the happy new yacht owner specifically chose Jongert to build his motor yacht.

Folkert Brongers states:

‘Superyacht Lucia-M is his third motor yacht and he is an experienced motor yacht owner. He knew Jongert for many years and when he wanted to have a new motor yacht built, he chose Jongert. In my opinion that’s a huge compliment.’

Yacht LUCIA M can be seen as a typical Jongert Yacht, whith all the Jongert attributes. In the past 57 years Jongert has built 325 sailing yachts, some of them of impressive size. The 3900 MY, superyacht LUCIA M (build number 429 overall), has been a success as the first large Jongert motor yacht.

‘This yacht is also a typical Jongert’, says Brongers. ‘The Lucia-M combines the well known Jongert quality with excellent qualities and technical innovations like the glass-bridge and a monitoring system. And just like the 5200M, our latest design in the sailing yacht line, the emphasis is on privacy, luxury, comfort and space. This motor yacht can be seen as the best in its class.’

AM Shipyard presented the new 56m Modern Dhow design at this year’s Abu Dhabi Yacht Show

March 30, 2010

Written by Eva Belanyiova

The new design Modern Dhow has been designed for the owner of Al Masaood group, which is also the owner of AM Shipyard. The vessel was designed specifically for the challenging conditions and environment for maintaining the conditions of superyachts in mind, this proved that the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show was the perfect place to showcase this unique yacht.

The Modern Dhow yacht caters for the owner who wishes to keep her in the same area, rather than moving around extensively. The yacht is designed on more traditional basis and will be conforming to exact spec of use of the yacht.  An example is the seating area, that accommodates up to 24 special seating arrangements that reflects the owners manner of hosting.

The 56 metre Modern Dhow design by Sharp Design with Abdullah Al Masaood

From the technical point of view, the water capacity will also be huge, to allow for the need for increased water allowance in a region, where drinking water is not always easily available. There is no teak decking or stainless steel on board due to adverse effect from sand in the region and the yacht will not feature many toys or tenders as it will mainly remain static and will not charter out.

Woessner was quick to acknowledge that the Dhow has been designed specifically for her owner and in local style, and is not  just meant as your average yacht for anybody. They have many other models for clients that might have other requirements and indeed have different varieties of the Dhow model, both larger and smaller. The Abu Dhabi Yacht SHow was meant to showcase their work however, with such understanding on the demands of the region reflected in the yacht design there might well be much interest from locals who wish to invest in such a yacht.

March 30, 2010

Written by Chelsea Smith

In February, Port Denarau Marina, on Fiji’s West Coast completed a NZD $2 million floating jetty comprising of 46 berths. The project was a joint effort between Bellingham Marine New Zealand and the Skeggs Group of New Zealand.

Located in the tropical South Pacific surrounded by pristine oceans and white sandy beaches, the new Marina is positioned at the center of yachting activity in Fiji and is expected to produce a significant increase in bookings for the upcoming charter and yachting season.

The new jetty was designed to cater to mega yachts visiting the South_Pacific  to meet the growing demand for slips in the Fijian Islands. The berths range from 12 meters to 65 meters, ten of which were built to accommodate super yachts and are capable of taking 65 meter yachts with 5 meter drafts. The marina also offers a range of services including repair and commercial barge services.

The new berths are fully serviced with power and water and feature Bellingham’s Unifloat system which is the first of its kind for Fiji which is designed to withstand tough cyclones while not compromising on aesthetics.

Within walking distance of the new Port Denarau Marina is a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, bank, restaurants, bars and hotels. An 18-hole golf course is just a few minutes’ drive away and there are nearby towns of Nadi and Namaka with further restaurants, shopping, night life, hotels and spas.

Bellingham Marine designed, manufactured and supplied the docks for the Denarau project.  Denarau Marina Ltd, oversaw piling, utilities and installation.  Steel Pile and dried Fijian hardwood for the dock system’s walers were sourced locally.

March 30, 2010

Written by Chelsea Smith

The Saint Barths Bucket Regatta 2010 which ran from the 25th to the 28th of March was a great success. With 39 entries, this year’s St-Barts Bucket was the largest group of large luxury sailing yacht entries ever assembled at a Bucket regatta. Please see below for a list of the awards and winners of this year’s regatta.

The “overall” winner of the Saint Barths Bucket Regatta 2010 was luxury J Class sailing yacht RANGER. The overall winner represents the best performance overall for combined results, all classes, all races. Second and third places went to Perini Navi sailing yachts Andromeda le dea and P2 respectively.

Overall winners:

1st: Ranger

2nd: Andromeda_le_dea

3rd: P2

In 2005 the yachts sailing in the regatta were split into 2 classes which were a “Cruising Division” and “Racing Division”.  Theses classes were named “Les Gazelles des Mers” for the Racing Division and “Les Grandes Dammes des Mers” for the Cruising Division.

Each Division has trophies presented for best performance overall, and saw J Class Ranger win the Racing class, with Perini Navi Andromeda winning the Cruising class.

“Les Gazelles des Mers” – Racing Class

 1st:  Ranger

2nd: P2

3rd: Unfurled

Les Grandes Dammes des Mers” for the Cruising Class

1st: Andromeda_le_dea

2nd: Axia

3rd: Hetairos

Sailing yacht Georgia won the Alloy Cup – which is the Best Performance by an Alloy Yacht.

The winner of the All Star Crew Award was sailing yacht Antara.

At each Bucket Event, every yacht is asked to cast a ballot for the yacht crew among the fleet that demonstrates the most professional service in all tasks, while maintaining the best voie de vivre, camaraderie, teamwork and respect among the crew.  This is the crew that displays the pinnacle of the profession and has the most fun at it – the yacht that everyone wants to work aboard.   Because the award is earned by peer recognition, it has earned serious stature within the marine industry.

The Spirit of the Bucket Trophy was awarded to luxury yacht Gloria.

This award is presented each year by Alice Huisman, to the yacht that best exemplifies the spirit of the Bucket Regattas.  The selection is absolutely subjective, but considers sportsmanship, safe seamanship, best hospitality and overall contribution to the event.

The Perini Navi Cup which is awarded to the Perini-Navi Yacht with the best combined result went to sailing yacht Andromeda_le_dea.

The Vitters Seamanship Trophy was won by sailing yacht Baracuda.

The Vitters Seamanship Trophy is awarded to the yacht that demonstrates the best seamanship and sportsmanship in the interest of promoting safety on the race course.  All participants in the Bucket acknowledge that superyachts have serious limitations operating safely in close quarters and therefore, the RC has always valued safety well above performance.  This award will recognize the yacht that best demonstrates that understanding.  It also goes to prove that nice guys don’t always finish last…

The Skullduggery Cravat was awarded to sailing yacht Axia.

The Skullduggery Cravat is a perfectly tied Admiralty Noose, framed, with instructions in elegant calligraphy on how to tie a proper, 13 turn noose.  This was originally awarded to the owner of SARIYAH in 2002, so his captain, Timothy Laughridge (Bucket Committee) could be hung at the pleasure of the Fleet.

The award was renamed and put forward by the Committee to reinforce the Bucket premise that we are NOT here to promulgate adult behaviour. The Cravat will be awarded to the yacht and crew who display the best bucket humour.  As a guideline, one year the crew of  SARIYAH spent the evening prior to the last race, slaughtering a down feathered mattress, then they packed the feathers in with their spinnaker so when they set their ‘Chute with the Hawk logo the following day, they not only dusted the horizon with feathers, but left a rubber chicken hanging from their spinnaker pole!!!

And last but not least, the Escargot Cup went to the luxury sailing yacht TOTO.
