40th birthday for the 1972 motor yacht Heavenly Daze with a ‘makeover’ by Pendennis and Wetzels Brown

May 10, 2012

Motor Yacht Heavenly Daze is a 1972 built Feadship vessel that arrived at the Pendennis shipyard in September, in order to start her winter refit, focusing on the interior restyle designed by the Dutch studio Wetzels Brown. Contemporary and stylish finishes that blend into the classic characteristics and heritage of the yacht have been applied  to the VIP suites, guest cabins, the main saloon and the dining area.

The refit also included her RINA annual survey and general maintenance works with isolated deck, hull and tank repairs, and top side repaint. The bridge electronics also received a full upgrade alongside an overhaul of her steering system and stabilizers. The broad range of in-house trades at Pendennis is particularly well suited to this type of work which covers the whole spectrum of boat building skills and disciplines. Now sea trails have successfully been completed the Heavenly Daze yacht is due to leave early May for the Mediterranean.

Jamie Painter, Captain of Heavenly Daze, commented: “Although there was a tight deadline on the series of works outlined in the initial brief we formed a close relationship with the team at Pendennis and the design team at Wetzels Brown during the very early stages of the project, enabling Pendennis to deliver a substantial refit in this winter period. Once Heavenly Daze embarks on her charter season it will be extremely beneficial that Pendennis will be able to further support the yacht in the Mediterranean via their refit facility in Palma.”

Pendennis is continuing its busy refit season as the classically beautiful Sailing Yacht Mariette, Motor Yacht Bystander and the J-Class yacht S/Y Velsheda have all arrived in Falmouth recently to commence short refit projects. Velsheda is having minor works undertaken (rudder work, anti-foul and survey works) over the next couple of weeks before being situated in Port Pendennis Marina in preparation for the J-Class Regatta in Falmouth at the end of June. Mariette will be undergoing similar short works (rudder, engineering, topside paint and anti-foul) in preparation for her participation in the highly anticipated Pendennis Cup, which will see fourteen 30m+ superyachts racing in Falmouth from the 2nd – 7th July.

Feadship Superyacht HAMPSHIRE II leaves the construction shed

May 10, 2012

Following her christening in April, the brand-new Feadship custom motor yacht HAMPSHIRE II has now left the construction hall. The timeless 78.50-metre superyacht Hampshire II created an imposing impression as the doors of the hall opened. The employees as well as the watching crowds had the chance to see this phenomenal Feadship vessel for the first time in daylight. After being cautiously launched, and with the addition of her mast construction, Hampshire II looked truly magnificent.

Built for an experienced Feadship client who has a genuine passion for action and sports, this latest addition to the global Feadship fleet sets new standards in terms of her facilities and craftsmanship. Hampshire II yacht is full of adventure, reflecting her owner’s rich involvement in a project which he described as a tremendous and fun experience. The helicopter landing platform, for example, can be transformed into a playing field for basketball, tennis, baseball, badminton and football, with a giant net around the deck to ensure continuity of the games.

This is one of many unusual features onboard this bespoke Feadship, the split-level design of which maximises the volume and outdoor space. On the sundeck, for instance, a crow’s nest placed atop the mast is reached by a two-person elevator and offers panoramic views high above the water. For the truly adventurous, a zip wire is connected to the mast to which one can tie a rope and slide at breathtaking speed from the crow’s nest down to the water.

Superyacht Hampshire II also has a phenomenal beach club with two platforms that open up either side of the yacht in addition to the swim platform at the transom. A swimming ladder descends from the stern hydraulically while the beach club itself has been finished in a driftwood style. The whole area is very well incorporated with the deck above, which includes a skylight surrounded by seating.

The contemporary overall design by Redman Whiteley Dixon and Feadship incorporates balconies on either side: Seating terraces for the owners and wing stations adjacent to the wheelhouse. There is a wealth of fine detailing in the design, including the nameplate on the glass panel in the recessed part of the bridge deck fashion plates.

But perhaps most impressive of all was the attendance of 10 Dubois designs  at the St. Barths Bucket, making up almost a quarter of the 46 strong fleet. Dubois team was delighted to see the 45m luxury yacht Lady B win her class and place second overall behind the separately classed, classic style charter yacht This Is Us. Lady B gave the most impressive performance of the modern yachts and  looked spectacular. The 39m luxury charter yacht Ganesha and the 57.5m Twizzle superyacht placed second and third in class respectively. All of the yachts were sailed beautifully and it really was a sight to behold.

70ft motor yacht Maserati leaves Dennis Conner´s North Cove to challenge Trans-Atlantic Record

May 10, 2012

Following a one-month preparation, the 70ft motor yacht Maserati left the Dennis Conner´s North Cove last night to challenge the Trans-Atlantic Record. The weather conditions were perfect, providing an extraordinary evening in Lower Manhattan.

70ft race yacht Maserati before leaving NYC

On board the luxury yacht Maserati is the international crew of: Italian Giovanni Soldini (skipper), American Brad Van Liew (navigator and watch leader), Spaniard Javier de la Plaza (helm, pit), Frenchmen Sebastien Audigane (helm, trimmer) and Ronan Le Goff (helm, bowman), Italians Guido Broggi (boat captain), Corrado Rossignoli (bowman), and Brit Tom Gall (second bowman).

They crossed the starting line where Ambrose Light was positioned at 3:20 a.m. this morning.

The Trans-Atlantic Record they are trying to break is from New York to the Lizard Rock off England. The record currently stands at 6 days, 17 hours and 52 minutes and was set by the 43m superyacht Senso One (ex Mari Cha IV) in 2003.

North Cove

The distance is about 2,925 miles and they have to race dangerously close to icebergs off Newfoundland. The latest data  shows several icebergs as far south as 44 degrees North. Maserati is currently at 40 degrees North and headed northeast at 22 knots.

“We have waited for so long, but it was worth it,” explained Soldini before leaving Dennis Conner’s North Cove. “This low pressure seems to be the right one to try and break a speed record as challenging as the North Atlantic one.  We are confident and in high spirits.”
