Launched at the Monaco Yacht Show 2011, the RDE has been welcomed into the marketplace as a quieter and lighter alternative to other electric thrusters available. With the propeller as the only moving part, there is no need for expensive rim bearings or watertight seals which save weight, cost and improve the reliability.

Perini Navi luxury yacht hull c.2193 will be installed with a RDE-0650-S-090, which is a 90kw/120hp swing deploying thruster and will be delivered to the yard in Viareggio towards the close of 2012 where she will be fitted out and completed ready for handover.

100ft maxi yacht Esimit Europa 2 starts the new season with ambitious goals

May 10, 2012

One of the most prestigious European projects, Esimit Europa, revealed its future goals as well as endeavours in sport and international diplomacy. The symbol of the project is the 100ft sailing yacht Esimit Europa 2, one of the technologically most advanced vessels in the world, which is under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barosso, and has Gazprom as its main sponsor. The Esimit Europa 2 superyacht boasts the reputation of being undefeated.

100ft sailing yacht Esimit Europa 2

This year the luxury yacht Esimit Europa 2 will try to conquer all five regattas – Giraglia Rolex Cup, Palermo – Monte Carlo, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, Bernetti Lombardini Cup and Barcolana. It will also try to beat a 9 year-old world speed record from Monaco and Porto Cervo (Sardinia, Italy) approved by the International Sailing Federation, under the World Sailing Speed Record Council Rule 21 (c) in a Powered Sailing System category.

At the end of May, the 100ft maxi yacht Esimit Europa, as a symbol of strengthening European identity and mutual collaboration among European nations, companies and institutions, will be present at the meeting of the biggest European companies – European Business Congress.

The Esimit Europa yacht has also been granted an important protocolary role in the Cyprus Presidency to the European Union in the second half of 2012. The founder of the Esimit Europa project, Igor Simčič, in collaboration with the Italian government representative in Trieste, is also announcing a gala European event, which will be organized on the eve of one of the largest regattas in the world – the Barcolana regatta. European ministers, ambassadors and other important diplomats will be invited on this occasion.

“Regarding the fact that we are heading for the last season, when we are competing mainly in the Mediterranean, our goal is to show impeccable performances at all the attended regattas and once again prove, that Europeans have our own sports symbol and our own winning team, which we can be exceptionally proud of. In the 2013 season, we will carry the European flag to some of the most demanding regattas in Germany, United Kingdom and Sweden, and
in the second half of the season return back to the Mediterranean. It will be the time, when important decisions regarding our long term future will be made”, said Igor Simčič.

The 100-foot supermaxi yacht Esimit Europa 2 has seen many technical improvements from when it sailed into its winter base at end of the last season, especially in terms of electronics and hydraulics; she has become a true research and developmental laboratory for the biggest suppliers of nautical equipment in the world.

The premium technology will this year be in the hands of 18-member international crew of sailing superstars, Jochen Schümann (GER), Juan Vila (SPA), Alberto Bolzan (ITA), Vasilij Žbogar (SLO). They are joined by many of the experienced sailors from the whole European continent, as Albert Jacobsoone (FRA), one of the best young sailors in the world Boris Hermann (GER), Ignacio Braquehais (SPA), Anton Sergeev (RUS) and also bringing rich experience to the team is Frank O’Leary (IRL).

“First trainings in Valencia have shown that the team of our engineers, in cooperation with numerous external partners, did exceptional work, as Esimit Europa 2 is in great shape and ready for the season to start. Despite the fact
that operating with such a complex yacht is a process, which takes a life-long training, I am extremely happy, that the new members acquired the specifics of sailing on Esimit Europa 2 so quickly. There is an exceptional atmosphere among us, therefore, I am with excitement looking forward to the challenges ahead of us”, added skipper Jochen Schümann.

The Esimit Europa 2 yacht sails under the flag of the European Union, is registered on Cyprus, a member of Yacht Club de Monaco, competes for the Slovenian Sailing Federation and on board joins sailors from 7 various European
countries. She is under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and its main sponsor is the Russian energetics company Gazprom.

May 10, 2012

The well known Dutch builder, Heesen Yachts, is happy to announce that the 50m motor yacht Satori as well as the 37m Aurelia superyacht have received Neptune Trophies at the prominent World Superyacht Awards which was held in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday May 5, 2012.

The 37m semi-displacement yacht Aurelia, prevailed over five other finalists in the very competitive “Raised pilothouse – semi-displacement or planning motor yacht” category. Aurelia sports a very different exterior look with her bright orange and blue color scheme that recalls Gulf Oil racing cars. Her precious and rich interior by Bannenberg and Rowell is inspired by the automotive theme. The judges commented: “An unusual, but very worthy winner”.

The 50m semi-displacement yacht Satori, won in the “Three-deck – semi-displacement or planning motor yacht” category, competing against six other superyachts.

Heesen luxury yacht Satori has been the most awarded yacht in the Heesen fleet. Last September in Cannes, she was awarded two Yacht Trophies and the prestigious Prix du Design by Prince Albert of Monaco. Frank Laupman drew her streamlined exterior and Rémi Tessier her sophisticated interior décor while naval architects from Heesen Yachts in collaboration with those of Van Oossanen have created her high-performing hull.

Powered by a pair of 2,720kW diesels, the 50m superyacht Satori can reach the remarkable speed of 24 knots, which places her amongst the fastest 50-metres afloat, while her fuel consumption at 12 knots is such that she attains a respectable 3,200 nm range.

Sales and Marketing Director Fabio Ermetto comments: “The Neptune Trophy has become synonymous with excellence in superyacht build and design and is considered the Oscar of our industry. That two of our vessels have received this recognition is an immense honor for all of us at Heesen Yachts. I would like to thank the owners of Satori and Aurelia for having trusted our shipyard in building their dream yachts. None of this would have been possible without their inspiration and vision so we would like to extend our sincere congratulations to them for this tremendous achievement! Hats off to the organizers who have once again demonstrated their ability to stage a perfect event.”

These important recognitions for two Heesen semi-displacement yachts confirm that this Dutch shipyard is the undisputed world leader in design, engineering and construction of all aluminium luxury vessels.

Feadship´s Superyachts receive four major awards

May 10, 2012

One of the best luxury motoryacht builders in the world, the respected Dutch shipyard Feadship, has received four major awards in a week, demonstrating once again the Dutch brand’s ability to consistently set new standards in quality as well as comfort. At the World Superyacht Awards ceremony on 5 May, Feadship was the only yard to receive three prizes comprising the prominent Motor Yacht of the Year award, going to the spectacular 77.7m superyacht Tango. This amazing performance was followed up five days later with another prize at the Asia Boating Awards for the 87.78m megayacht Musashi.

“Although we have every confidence in our ability to deliver the best possible custom superyachts to our clients, it is always a great honour to receive such recognition from our industry and media peers,” says Feadship marketing manager Francis Vermeer. “Moreover, the fact that the awards have been given for yachts in the range from 88 to 45 metres in length is further testimony to the perfect craftsmanship that underpins every Feadship. They are also a tribute to our clients, who enjoy the entire building experience to such an extent that success is assured.”

At the World Superyacht Awards in Istanbul, the 77.7m luxury yacht Tango was honoured with the Motor Yacht of the Year distinction. “Tango has taken the styling of large superyachts a step forward, combining a new and elegant appearance with supreme engineering and construction,” reported the judging panel, which also praised the Feadship’s well-considered layout on both her exterior decks and distinguished interior. Tango also won the award for Displacement Motor Yacht of 1,300 to 2,999 GT. The judges for this prize were impressed by the yacht’s “bold new exterior style, superb quality of construction, and stylish yet highly comfortable interior spaces.”

The third prize for Feadship at the World Superyacht Awards was granted to the 45m superyacht Helix, which is currently on a ground-breaking tour of the Far East that includes Hong Kong, Hainan, Singapore and Jakarta. The judging panel for the Displacement Motor Yacht below 500 GT award wrote the following: “In a tightly contested class, Helix represents a particularly well-constructed vessel with a wide range of facilities and an interior that appeals to a wide range of tastes.”

Last but by no means least, the 87.78m Feadship megayacht Musashi won the Best Custom Built Yacht category at the Asia Boating Awards on 10 May. Feadship director Bas Nederpelt travelled to Hong Kong to gratefully accept this prestigious prize at a ceremony in Hong Kong that reinforced the growing importance of the Asian market for the superyacht industry. Musashi is named after a legendary samurai warrior and offers an inspirational synthesis of Japanese design and art deco-style elements. Creating a new benchmark for a five-deck superyacht, she is a superlative example of the complete flexibility clients enjoy when embarking on a purely custom project at Feadship.

78 days left before superyachts head to London for the Olympics

May 10, 2012

In order to mark the final countdown to the beginning of the Olympic Games in London, the traditional ceremony to light the Olympic flame was held today at the ancient site of Olympia in Greece. In a break with tradition, London is preparing to host superyachts, never seen before in the UK capital, happy not to be left out of the action.

London-Olympic-Logo

The Olympic flame has begun its 78-day journey towards London this morning, making a 10,000 mile trip. It will be carried by 8,000 torchbearers, arriving in Stratford, East London, on July 27. The first torchbearer will be Spyros Gianniotis, the British-born Greek 10km swimming world champion.

From July, Royal Docks 2012 are offering a limited number of exclusive superyacht berths to provide a totally unique Olympic experience. The facility is positioned just minutes from London City airport and the city’s sporting venues. In partnership with MGMTyacht, Royal Docks 2012 will be providing a full dedicated bespoke concierge service too. Whatever one could possibly want, Royal Docks’ concierge service has it covered.

Superyachts wanting to come to London this summer must hurry as berths are being booked up fast.

Benjamin Sutton, Director of Communications at MGMTyacht said: “With only 78 days to go till the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’ kicks off,  more and more superyachts are being confirmed as coming to London this summer. This is hugely exciting. For the first time in history, London will be the top destination for superyachts this year.”

The International Boat Show of Barcelona, September 26-30, 2012

May 10, 2012

The organisers of the International Boat Show of Barcelona has announced its dates for 2012 edition. Running from September 26 to 30, the show will take place in Port Vell, which will become the only venue for its next editions. The result of an agreement between Fira de Barcelona, the event organiser, and the Asociación Nacional de Empresas Náuticas, Anen is the new model, which tries to make it easier for buyers as well as visitors to come and, thereby, help boost the sector.

The International Boat Show of Barcelona in Port Vell

The International Boat Show of Barcelona held in Port Vell

The two organisations have opted for this formula, which combines an exhibition on water and on land in the same area, in line with the format used by leading European shows, such as the Cannes Boat Show and the La Rochelle Grand Pavois Boat Show in France, the Southampton Boat Show in the UK and the Genoa Boat Show in Italy.

A report compiled by a commission consisting of representatives of Fira de Barcelona, the show’s Organising Committee and the national association that defends the interests of nautical companies, came to the conclusion that, given the Spanish nautical sector’s current complex climate, the model that best combines the possibility of attracting more buyers with the need to adjust the cost of participation for exhibitors is to concentrate the show in Port Vell, and for five days instead of the usual nine.

In addition to enjoying the privileged setting of the port, visitor will also have more opportunities to try out boats, since the minimum length of on-water boats will be 8 metres, instead of the traditional 12 metres. For this reason, the organisers expect an increase in medium-length sailboats.  Boats less than 8 metres in length will be exhibited in an on-land area in Moll de la Fusta, alongside other products and services.

By bringing forward the dates to the end of September, the show will benefit from Barcelona’s mild climate and the longest period of natural light, which could attract more enthusiasts. Another advantage to bringing forward the dates is that, within the international calendar, the Barcelona event will slot in between Europe’s two most important boat shows: the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes and the Salone Nautico Internazionale di Genova.

The organisers started working after celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Barcelona International Boat Show last November, with the aim of shaping the guidelines for the evolution of the event in keeping with the new needs of exhibitors and visitors in a difficult economic and climate for the sector.

The International Boat Show of Barcelona, September 26-30, 2012

The International Boat Show of Barcelona to be held in September 26-30, 2012

Since 1985, Port Vell has hosted the on-water show featuring larger boats, adding to the overall exhibition. According to the show’s President, Luis Conde, “by concentrating all exhibits in the port, we can also show smaller boats on the water, a request made by many exhibitors and visitors, the main objective of which is to continue to boost the market and attract more enthusiasts.”

For the CEO of Anen, Alejandro Landaluce, “at these times of very difficult economic crisis, we have to opt for changes. Associate exhibitors have understood this and have chosen this model, which is the most attractive option, by unifying the entire range of exhibits in a single exhibition and on-water venue, something that, for some time, has been seen as a strategic need for the show. At Anen, we are working to give our members the best options for developing their marketing strategies. We believe that this change responds to this objective.”

For his part, the show’s Director, Jordi Freixas, said “Anen and Fira have opted for this new model with the show’s future in mind. The commission’s conclusion is a good example of team work and Fira de Barcelona’s involvement in the Spanish nautical sector. We have listened to its concerns and, with this change, are adapting to its needs.”

Along the same lines, the sales manager of Yamaha, Victor González, stated “the Boat Show, as a driver of our sector, has opted to adapt to the complex market situation. The union of all exhibitors, the new location in Port Vell and the change in dates will be a challenge for Yamaha but, at the same time, we will try to take advantage of the new opportunities that come from being closer to the sea and the end of summer.”

Rodman’s marketing manager, María Herrero, considers that “after some years of being severely affected by the economic crisis, we believe the time has come to reinvent ourselves. The Boat Show’s change in format is better for the sector’s new reality. We want the sea to be the star in a city that opens out to the Mediterranean, like Barcelona. It will allow us to offer new proposals to our national and international visitors”. Herrero also said “it is a competitive model within international shows and we are sure it will be able to be ranked as one of the sector’s most important European events in the future.”

The manager of Motyvel and representative of Jeaneau in Spain, Lluís Mas, ranks the change in format as “very positive and appropriate”. He adds: “the new format is a step towards adapting the nautical sector to the new economic and social climate. It is a very international model, very European, which adapts to the needs of both exhibitors and visitors. For companies that attend the show, it will enable us to show nautical enthusiasts the latest products for the next season, just after summer, when our clients are most receptive.”

Adapting to the times
The first ever Boat Show was held in 1963 in the Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc Exhibition Centre Montjuïc, within the framework of the popular Feria de Muestras. After the success of this first edition, it was agreed that the show would become an annual monographic event (with the exception of 1988, when two editions were held). Over time, enthusiasm for nautical activities multiplied and the show grew to become the sector’s leading platform in Spain, its main meeting point and an international benchmark.

In 2002, it was moved to the Gran Via Exhibition Centre, keeping the on-water show in Port Vell, which has hosted numerous activities, such as regattas and sea initiations, among others. Since 2009, there has also been a Village, where business persons, sports persons and nautical enthusiasts have gathered.

The Barcelona International Boat Show is one of the oldest in Europe, founder member of the International Federation of Boat Show Organisers (IFBSO). Last year, on occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Barcelona City Council awarded it the Gold Medal for Sports Merit in recognition of its work in promoting nautical activities and contributing to the city’s internationalisation.

Organised annually by Fira de Barcelona, the show has the backing of Anen, with which it has had a collaboration agreement since 2007.
