The Monaco Yacht Show is the superyacht event of the year for announcing upcoming builds and unveiling new concepts, and Moonen Yachts has used the occasion to present their new luxury expedition yacht, 47m/154ft NAVARINO. Named after an island gateway to the Antarctic, she combines the best attributes of a motor yacht and an explorer to appeal to all customers.

Managing Director and naval architect Emile Bilterijst talked more about the project, which was created with designer René van der Velden: “We designed this concept to showcase the different ways Moonen owners can enjoy a modern and innovative world traveling superyacht.

“One of the reasons for Moonen’s reputation is our ability to offer motor yachts in all shapes and styles. In this respect the NAVARINO can serve as a starting point for a client seeking a go-anywhere motor yacht or as inspiration to go in a completely different direction.”

The aft deck lazarette is elevated to be on the same level as the beach club, resulting in a larger area for alfresco living close to the water’s edge. Moonen’s design team has an array of personalisation options available to customise M/Y NAVARINO to each client’s wishes.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass staircase increase the natural interior lighting and emphasise the space of the full-beam main salon. The Master suite is located on the main deck while four further guest cabins are situated on the lower deck, providing accommodation for up to 10 guests.

The steel hull and aluminium superstructure design uses a monocoque structure for strength and to enhance the interior space. The result is that there are no side decks, resulting in one of the largest interior volumes of a superyacht under 500GT. Her excellent fuel consumption using twin Caterpillar C32 Acert engines allows her to explore up to 4,500 nautical miles at 10 knots, while she has a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots.

Moonen is ready for the future of the explorer yacht industry as increasing stringent rules come into force to protect some of the World’s most fragile marine environments. NAVARINO offers a variety of solutions which include hybrid propulsion, solar panels, exhaust gas cleaning and heat recovery of exhaust gases to ensure that the NAVARINO explorer yacht will be cruising in the extreme wildernesses.
