Italian shipyard Amico & Co, located in Genoa, is at the final stages of a 16-month conversion project. The luxury mega yacht, previously known as DELMA has been enlarged from 85 metres to 91,5 metres and is due to enter the commissioning and certification stage, following the complete and complex rebuild and refit of all of her areas.

Amico&Co unveiled that this project is the larges and the most extensive refit job they have carried out to date, and one of the largest projects of its kind ever attempted. The conversion required a professional team of nine in-house project managers and technical superintendents closely collaborating with the owner’s representatives, led by Wim Koersvelt. This massive conversion involved on average about 200 personnel at any one time and has taken place at the yard’s 102-metre covered dry-dock inaugurated in 2014.

Ex DELMA was constructed to passenger standards and Lloyds Register classification and is scheduled to be completed in record time. She will have a new Marshall Island flag and capable of carrying 36 guests and a crew of 36, plus additional staff.

Even though the hull extension went from 85,3 metres (280ft) to 91,5 metres (300ft), due to the hydrodynamic and shape requirements of connecting the new aft block to the existing structure the hull required cutting back up to 16 metres from the existing stern platform – this is a massive undertaking that needed all the shipyard’s technical expertise.

In addition, ex DALMA also had her main engines replaced and received two 4300kW MTU 20V4000M93L power units, requiring a complete foundation rebuild, as well as new MTU 12V200M41A diesel generators of 526 kW each. The exhaust, gearboxes, shaft lines and propellers have also been replaced, and the rudder stocks and steering system redesigned to match the new contractual speed required by the customer. The power management and alarm monitoring system throughout the vessel were also upgraded.

The exterior and interior design of the yacht boasts plenty of new features, adding to her overall comfort and luxury amenities. One of these deluxe features include the massive whirlpool with integrated sun pad for lounging on the sun deck, new spa and relaxation zones, and a new flood able tender garage on the lower aft deck that can be converted into a heated seawater swimming pool. The latest in audio, video and monitoring systems have been installed throughout and 80 percent of the interiors have been refurnished.

Mega Yacht DELMA used to be available for charter before her complete rebuild at Amico & Co.
